DmC PC Release Date and Specs Confirmed

DmC PC Release Date and Specs Confirmed

Are thirty extra frames per second worth a ten day wait?

In most cases, whenever we PC gamers see the words "coming to 360, PS3 and PC," we automatically append "eventually" to the end of the sentence. Sometimes the seemingly arbitrary delays are brief, and sometimes they go on for weeks or even months. Capcom is keeping the wait short for the PC version of DmC: Devil May Cry, however; It hits shelves just ten days after its 360 and PS3 counterparts, which are set to launch on January 25th.

The close release dates are nice, because barring any poor-porting shenanigans, the PC version of DmC is likely to be the better choice. Unlike its console brethren, the PC version of DmC can run at 60+ frames per second. The console versions' 30FPS limit is a major area of contention for fans of the series, second only to the color of Dante's hair in terms of raw drama.

But can your PC run the game at 60FPS? Probably. Take a look at the fairly reasonable minimum and recommended specs listed below.

Minimum

  • OS: Windows Vista/XP, Windows 7, Windows 8
  • Processor: AMD Athlon X2 2.8 Ghz or better
  • Intel Core2 Duo 2.4 Ghz or better
  • Memory: 2 GB RAM
  • Hard Disk Space: 8 GB free hard drive space
  • Video Card: ATI Radeon HD 3850 or better
  • NVIDIA GeForce 8800GTS or better
  • DirectX: 9.0c or greater
  • Sound: Standard audio device

Recommended:

  • OS: Windows Vista/XP, Windows 7, Windows 8
  • Processor: AMD Phenom II X4 3 Ghz or better
  • Intel Core 2 Quad 2.7 Ghz or better
  • Memory: 4 GB RAM
  • Hard Disk Space: 9 GB free hard drive space
  • Video Card: AMD Radeon™ HD 6950 or better
  • DirectX: 9.0c or greater
  • Sound: Standard audio device

Capcom's port of Devil May Cry 4 was excellent, but the PC release of DmC is being handled by unproven Polish porting house, QLOC S.A.

I admit, I've been a bit leery of DmC ever since I learned Enslaved developer, Ninja Theory, was at the helm. However, the recently released 360 and PS3 demo has convinced me to scale back my scowling by ten, possibly even fifteen, percent.

I loved Enslaved. It wasn't perfect, but it was a good, story-focused game (despite the loopy ending) with likable characters, and a nice twist on the Monkey-king legend. Arguably I'm not a huge DmC fan, but I never doubted that with enough effort they could make a pretty stellar reimagining.

Grey, why do you keep using that thumbnail picture?

Do you hate me?

You hate me don't you!

OT: Will still probably get it on console over PC, just seems like the type of game better suited for that platform, at least for me, anyway.

I didnt even know this thing was going on PC 0_0...have past DMC titles made it to PC?

Only 3 and 4. DMC3's PC port was almost as bad as the RE4 PC port.

Wish I had never played it now.

3 and 4 have been, though if I remember correctly 3 wasn't the best port control wise, all the controls were listed as controller buttons.

Also Sven confirmed that the PC version will not use Games for Windows Live, and that theres seperate Steamworks and non-Steamworks versions from your distributor of choice.

Now im not sure about that. Barring any gamebreaking bugs with the PC version its likely to come cheaper on PC (through digital distribution) and its not really that much work to get a console controller to work for PC either.

But each to thier own.

I really like Enslaved, but its combat was tolerable at best. I'm quite fond of Ninja Theory as a whole, but they wouldn't have been my first choice to do a DMC game.

Waaaaaait a minute, Steam is optional? Is this... a company taking complaints from potential consumers and giving them an option they would prefer? What is this magical thing?

Keeping that in mind, I love Steam and if I get it it will be on Steam, but I really appreciate the choice. More than anything I appreciate "No Games For Windows Live". That shit deleted my Batman Arkham City save data after I had managed 95% completion and actually threw it off my top contenders of GOTY for 2011.

Also getting this in 60 fps seems like a reason to get this on PC. The specs seem a little low for recommended though, but I know I will be able to run this with ease. Just need a controller.

Huh. Thought this was console exclusive.
Should be nice to have it on PC, the demo for PS3 kept on pretty obviously dropping below 30 so keeping a steady 60 will be pretty funky.

Maybe I've missed it, but is there going to be a PC demo? I gave the xbox demo a try and found myself enjoying the game more than I'd thought I would.

I do have an xbox controller plugged into my PC...so I think I'll hold off and see a) how the game's reviewed and b) how the port's reviewed. If a and b are greater than 'meh', I'll pick it up.

Still not getting it even if it does run at 60fps on PC. I refuse to show this game any support (and no, before anyone asks, it's not just because of Dante's appearance).

except that once you figure out the controls and get your groove going in DMC3, it was smooth sail
RE4 wasn't at all, no matter how many mods you put into it

OT: cool, been wanting to give this a try and I don't have any of the current consoles

also. I find it kinda refreshing to see a AAA release that doesn't take like 20 god damn Gb

Right on brother. There's no way in hell I am going to give any money to Capcom for this cynical piece of grim gritty pandering shit that thinks it's my beloved Devil May Cry. I'll keep on playing Bayonetta. It's the real Devil May Cry 5 as far as I'm concerned.

Oh goody me too. Lets daisy chain all our hate together into a beatiful necklace that will protect us from the evil ways of corporations.

Man, I need a better videocard. Then again, it IS 5 years old and it STILL fits into the minimum specs.

Who says computers age quickly?

Been playing the series since the first game.

10 Days for 60+ FPS is hands down worth it. I really enjoyed the port of Devil May Cry 4. I'll still wait for review though. I'm not gonna lie, I liked the old Dante. And I read they took a couple of different directions with this one and I wanna wait to find out.

Captcha: is it "Shingles Friday" or something. Every single captcha this morning has been the shingles info one.

Now we just have to wait and see if the port is awful. My guess is that there wont be a price difference either?

Now I'm worried about my pc specs :'(

Windows 7 64-bit
Intel 3.0 GHz Core 2 Duo
4 gigs of RAM
Geforce 550Ti 1024mb

Fellow Escapist's, lend me your technical performance predictions please.

Feel free my friend. If we all channel our hate together then surely our demon lord Sparda will rise from hell and smite the unworthy developers at Capcom.

Well, colour me pleasantly surprised. I thought it wasn't coming out on PC, so I might actually give this one a shot. The gameplay looks really engaging (maybe more than DmC4?) and the aesthetic direction they took is very refreshing.

A decent port... by golly the world really is ending.
Well as soon as someone finds a way to mod out the shit character I will be wanting one.

Hmmm...

No demo.
Delayed release.
Fobbed off to some random company to port instead of the original developer.

... and people wonder why the PC versions dont do as well as the console version.

Not looking too healthy for the PC prospects, but I hope at least the console fans get a decent game (even at 30FPS).

Does the PC version of the game have joypad support? If so, it's a no brainer.

And the chain grows stronger.

How can people be excited for this when the best lines the new Dante can come up with are "FUCK YOU!"? Every time he opens his mouth it's painful for me.

Since it appears they're doing a lot of things right (choice of Steam or not, 60 fps etc), it would surprise me if it didn't have joypad support (for the Xbox 360 controller for Windows, at any rate). Most games do nowadays.

That's why it's a good idea IMO. I think the trend of handing over the reins of certain franchises to other dev teams and letting them do their own thing with them is a great one, plus it shows that Capcom may finally be listening to what Inafune was saying about the Japanese development culture growing stale of late. Face it, DmC 4 wasn't spectacular when you think about it, what with half the game being copy-pasted from the other half.

And that he looks like Ninja Theory's creative director? Seriously. Google it. Fuckers.

I too want to be part of this chain seeing as this new iteration doesn't even remind me of the previous games and to that I'll just support Bayonetta on the U.

Nice. I will pre-order this as soon as I am able to. Hopefully it has a Collector's Edition to go along with it.

Having played the demo... I honestly wish I could say it comforted my hesitation with the game Grey.

Instead its only strengthened it. The whole Style system is borked, as of the demo, considering just how stupidly easy it is to get and maintain an SSS-rank. And the same goes with the levels as well. You get an instant "SSS" on a stage for nabbing all the collectibles/doors, even if you spent 10 hours in it, spamming just one attack over and over, using hundreds of healing items, and maintaining a combo no higher than 2 without being smacked into next year.

That, and the upgrade system seems completely random to me. I wasn't sure if it had to do with points earned or souls/red orbs gained, but they just popped up at random.

Also... that boss fight's dialogue... cringe-worthy and not at all funny.

I do wish them luck though, with getting this game to run 60fps at all on the Unreal Engine. It's pretty sure, but its also rather finicky and prone to some rather severely ugly texture pop-in. And at 60fps, that could look pretty dang bad if it happens (which most likely, it will).

Oh! And just a side-note Grey, but that picture is no longer accurate, seeing as they removed that small spot of silver hair in the back a while ago it seems! Might wanna... photoshop it out or something...

Oh god, now PC owners only have to wait 10 days for the dumbest looking game I've ever seen in my life. Yeeeeeeeeeeey.
