Capcom Offers Free Pendant with Devil May Cry Purchase

image

Score a bit of Dante's jewelry when purchasing from the publisher.

If you were considering picking up the newest Devil May Cry, Capcom wants to sweeten the deal - but only if you purchase the game directly from the company. If you order the PlayStation 3 or Xbox 360 version of the title from the Capcom Store you'll be treated to a replica of the crimson pendant worn by the main protagonist, for free.

Taking a page out of the book of retailers who often secure such bonuses for their own pre-order programs, it's rather interesting to see a publisher take matters into its own hands. Unfortunately, the bonus doesn't appear to be available for PC gamers, given that the game is only being offered by Capcom as a digital download on its own storefront.

DmC: Devil May Cry is scheduled to hit stores on January 15, 2013, with the PC version following 10 days later on January 25. Capcom hasn't revealed how long it will be offering the bonus, so if you have your heart set on some of Dante's bling, your best bet is to place your pre-order as soon as possible.

great, my biggest concern with the franchise was that it wouldnt be "fabulous" enough...

also:

I'm normally a huge sucker for stuff like this. Congrats Crapcom and Ninja Theory, you've made a series I liked so revolting, even this wont win me over. That's a feat even Final Fantasy 13 couldn't accomplish.

Ooooooo shiny....

Wait, NO Capcom. You can't convince me to buy the game. I have standards, it'll take more than a pretty pendent to get me to lower them.

Next Week: Order DmC directly from Capcom and get the pendent and a replica of Dante's sword.
------------
Edit: I'm curious, if this game bombs, who's fault is it?
Ninja Theory for making the game, or Capcom for letting them?

I think this picture sums up my feeling on this.

You are going to have to try harder than that Capcom if you want me to buy this as I have seen nothing I like about it so far.

Is the pendant worth $65? What's it made of?

By the looks of it I would guess plastic and paste.

Okay so....

Console: 30fps, 720p, frame rate drops, 40, bling
PC: uncapped fps, MOAR PIXELS (1080p for me), 30~?

I know whice version I'm getting!

Haha, oh wow.

DmC hasn't even made the top 30 pre-orders list, they've abandoned the 60fps standard for the series and gave us some bull about "simulated 60fps" (AKA it's going to run at 30 if we're lucky), they ruined the character designed and behaved incredible, unimaginably rudely towards long-time fans of the series who complained, they replaced the traditional DMC soundtrack with dubstep, simply because thats what is popular right now.

So they alienate the established fanbase, completely erase the style and themes of the previous games, are too cowardly to admit they'd rather have shiny graphics that an acceptable framerate, and this is supposed to win us over? A toy necklace? Really?

These people are a joke, I hope they go out of business and starve, not because they've ruined an established franchise, but because they're treating us like absolute simpletons.

Life size Rebellion replica may sell me.

Oh Capcom, you could offer me a night and a day in Trish's arms, and I would still not buy this burning shit pile of a game.

Maybe for two nights.

And it'd better be good.

Even then, I'd throw the game out and dispute the credit card charges.

I think it would have to be a perfect replica, demon powers and all for me to even consider purchasing this game. And even then, I'd probably just look for the sword on eBay a week after release...

Yeah, this just seems like Capcom saying, "Please buy our game! Please! We're sorry for all the dumb ---- earlier, honest! Please?"

Sorry, but no. You had your chance to fix things. You didn't just ignore the series' fans, you outright insulted them.

Capcom is getting desperate now, first adding 3 and 4 to the PC preoder and now making this free. It warms my soul watching them panic.

Why so much hate? I played the demo, and I really liked it. The combat mechanics seem solid enough, and that's the main reason I would buy a DMC game. DMC3's Dante was "cool" and all, but the story was ridiculous and it was certainly not the main focus of the game. I care very little about the new Dante looking like an "emo" and having the story all changed up. I trust in the changes Ninja Theory is making.

Also, besides some frame-rate problems, the game looks good, I love the way the world warps around into a grotesque and bizarre reflection.

Regarding the pendant. Meh. Looks good, but I'll probably get the regular version eventually when it gets here.

As if I didn't feel effeminate enough wanting to play a game about a tormented, angsty, yet approachable (debatable) pretty boy (even more debatable) with serious daddy issues, now I get to do it wearing toy vending machine jewlery... yay.

That pendant is embarrassing, they are really getting desperate, there is little interest in this game outside of people bitching about it, I might pick it up new if reviews are good, otherwise, I will pick it up down the line.

You can smell the desperation coming off them.

All signs point to this game bombing, and I'm going to be overjoyed when it does.

Pendant looks tacky as fuck. I'm still getting the game mind you, just from good old cheap Amazon like I always do.

Looks to me like Capcom know DmC: Devil May Cry isn't going to sell well and they're resorting to gimmickry like this to try and sell some extra copies. The fans want a quality game, which a lot of them think/know they aren't going to get; offering a cheap, plastic looking necklace isn't going to change many minds.

Reading this thread has made me feel warm and fuzzy inside. It's good to see no one is getting fooled.

I'm curious how bad this game is going to crash and burn.

So why is it that when any other game has little bits and do-dads it's seen as some collectable thing but now because it's DmC it's a sign of Capcom getting desperate?

You mean the Pendant you tried to replace with a generic exotic looking thing in the first trailer. Cool!!

Nnnngggghh! I'm a sucker for freebies! If someone offered a booger for buying a FIFA game, I would consider it. And that pendant looks pretty sexy.

But...I hate that game! It's fun; I've played the demo but...eh.

WHAT A PARADOX!

I wonder if I would be able to find the pendant by itself on ebay some time later...

Canadish:

I'm curious how bad this game is going to crash and burn.

-less preorders than Anarchy Reigns, a game with zero advertisement
-AR also comes out a week before DmC at half the price
-comes out after Christmas
-Metal Gear Rising comes out in February
-the new God of War comes out in March
-core fans aren't going to buy it
-casuals will just get God of War

And when you add in the cost of marketing, motion capture, and paying people to shitpost on message boards, even if this game does sell, it'll have to do CoD numbers to turn a profit.

Which is a recurring trend in Ninja Theory games.

The seething over the top hatred for this game is stupid. A lot of it is completely unjustified, with some of it being straight-up hypocritical.
These comments are what I expect to find in a Youtube comments section, not on the Escapist. You should be ashamed.

What's the problem? Buy it from Capcom for $65, then immediately sell it back to GameStop for $50-ish (they're pretty generous for brand-new, unopened titles). You just bought the pendant for $15. The rush of buy-ins drastically deflate the price of the game, so if the game does turn out to be marginally good, you can buy it on the cheap a few months later, plus some other games, with your store credit. Perhaps even convert that store credit to Steam credit as a nice, big middle finger to both companies.

Now get on with honoring MegaMan in a meaningful way, Capcom.

actually disappointed now, was planning on getting the pc version, but i really want the tacky necklace, may just get the xbox one :(

I'm laughing relentlessly at how Desperate Capcom and Ninja Theory are to sell this.
Now if it were a set of Matching Amulets from the ORIGINAL AND REAL DMC series. I'd just maybe, possibly, probably might buy it.

BTW, CAPCOM, just a quick message

What's to be ashamed of refusing to buy into a franchise that has been run into the ground because of an awful reboot?
This game is turning into the Sonic 06 of its franchise.

Hell, not even Micheal Bay screwed up Transformers as bad as Ninja Theory messed with the DMC storyline.

Plus the company's actions say alot about this game. The fact that they're doing what they can to give free merchandise as an incentive to buying their game along with looking like hypocrites when during an interview NT specifically said there'd be no sign of DLC....
*Vergil's Downfall Announcement*

Capcom's doing the same shit with DMC that they did with RE6 and based off of RE6s sales Capcom failed to make their mark just as they'll more than likely fail to get this sold

...that...that was amazingly accurate. Hell God of War and MGR along with the reduced price sale of Anarchy Reigns will more than likely catch all the attention and buyers, veering sales away from such a lackluster game (Based off the Demo)

Holy great orbs of the nether (regions), this thread is the sleeper-cell wakening for the hibernating DMC terrorists.
Seriously, the last, what, three? news articles on this game have had pretty reasonable comments, now it's back to "UH GOD RUINED FOREVER".

But seriously though 'dat necklace tack. Is tacky as hell.

STILL GETTING THE GAME THOUGH

Just not the necklace.

Max Anarchy (i still wont refer to it by any other name) had all its offical advertisement back in spring, then SEGA Japan had a stroke and set the release date into the suicide zone. Since then, word of mouth from importers and its soundtrack have been getting about the place much like sand.

Also DMC was never a casual franchise, so theres no reason for them to buy it instead of God of War other than "it came out first" at this point.

This peculiar pre-order bonus, not to mention the name DmC: Devil May Cry (why abbreviate the name if you're just going to use the words in the title anyway?), are a real testament to just how unsure Capcom are about this reboot.

anthony87:

Hmm... maybe because this is an exclusive being offered solely through the Capcom store, meaning Capcom is trying to circumvent the lower profits they'd get from selling to stores by encouraging more people to pay the same price directly to them. Devs/Studios/Publishers don't get $60 a purchase when you buy a game from K-Mart or Gamestop, they have to sell the games to them for, lets say as an example, $30-40 a copy.

Now, one could argue this wouldn't matter if the store continues buying more copies from Capcom to keep supply up, since that is when they make their money on the game. Yet if no one is buying the game, or it trends too heavily towards people not showing interest in buying it new, the stores won't stock as many newer copies, seeing as Gamestop is guaranteed more profit by selling used over new.

In short, Capcom wants to cut out lost profits by offering incentives for buying directly from them instead of other stores.

Regarding the pendant. Meh. Looks good, but I'll probably get the regular version eventually when it gets here.

I played the demo as well, and not only was the game slower than the actual DMC titles, combat and the grading behind it was so simplified it was pathetic. You aren't punished for using one attack over and over, you aren't punished for just standing around doing nothing in a fight or running around, and the mechanics behind the ratings system itself is flawed beyond reason. Prior games rewarded style and versatility, encouraging and practically requiring you to know your set of weapons and their skills by rewarding you style points only for keeping combos going and fresh while avoiding attacks. This one rewards only damage done.

Story has never, EVER, been a focus of DMC. It's there sure, and there are thematic points brought into the story for each game, such as the strength your humanity can give. But no fan of the game would say they play these games solely for story. Its all about the stylish, great combat mechanics that had been finely honed throughout the series.
This game dumps all of that though.

In fact, the scoring mechanics are made redundant in the end, seeing as if you grab all the collectibles in a stage, the game hands you an instant SSS rank for that stage, even if you spent 10 hours in it, repeating just one attack (not combo) the entire time, and downed about 10 times the amount of healing items you are allowed to have on you.

Sure, story may be decent, Ninja Theory at least could always fall back on that with their games. Yet their expertise in crafting combat systems is laughable, and just mediocre at best.
