Killer is Dead Trailer is Bloody Weird

The subtitled Killer is Dead trailer posits a simple question: Is it better to have 14 arms holding guns or one arm that is a gun?

Yesterday, Grey Carter told us about Grasshopper Manufacture's upcoming Killer is Dead, an action game about an assassin who kills other assassins. "It's a personal story, not one that's conscious of the chaos going on in the real world at the moment, but you might get more than a taste of that in the end anyway," Executive Director Suda 51 explained, not really explaining anything at all.

Fortunately, we now have a trailer to help it all make sense! There's this Zappa guy, see, and he's a hit with all the chicks, but he's also a stone-cold killer who's got a job to do and despite having a machine-gun for an arm, he seems to do a lot of it with a giant sword. Meanwhile, Cyborg Delroy Lindo has assumed control of the Yakuza and he's not happy, because Judge Death has swiped his Beats and unleashed a Krogan on Mega-Tokyo. Or something like that.

And in the next exciting episode, "A beautiful woman who has devilish hands!" 14 of them, to be precise. That's hot.

Killer is Dead is currently slated to come out in Japan this summer.

Interesting...

The name would suggest a sequel, spiritual or otherwise, to Killer 7, but the gameplay looks more like No More Heroes.

Will we be able to play it on wii u because that control scheme for No more heros on the wii was brilliant while on the other consoles...not so much. Also I'm hoping for a cameo from travis touchdown

More enticing swordplay than Raiden, and a damn sight more likable.

....anyone else getting a devil may cry mixed with the what the fuckery that suda normally does? That's sorta what I'm getting here

The visuals are kind of weird in the way that it sometimes looks really good while in others it looks like crap.

They kind of remind me of those cell shaded tv shows like:

Stop remaking No More Heroes, Suda.

Stop making relative sense!

It look like a alter stylize version of No More Hero with a hint of Killer 7 (which make sense it is made by the same company and it's a sequel to Killer 7). It won't suprise me if they put in Travis as a cameo.

I give it 5 minutes...

Anyways, not sure what to make of it, as you description is about as accurate as anyone could make of what was going on...

Only thing im sure of is that there was apparently a dubstep version of symphony no. 9 in e minor from the new world 4th movement

...now I want to find said version...

Whenever I hear the beginning of the song for this I am reminded of this!

OT: Hm, this looks interesting. I'll check this out some more.

I like you.

OT: Looks pretty fucking sweet to me, got nothing to add really...

Well...it looks like about a dozen other "Weird" Japanese action games.

BUT

It's Suda 51...and the spiritual successor to Killer Seven/No More Heroes...so...well...yeah, I'll buy it...probably.

Hell yeah! Looking forward to it, better finish Killer 7 first, I'll replay it once I go over to England where my sister has a PS2 (Mine is lost somewhere in the attic)

Yahtzeeeeee! Suda appears to be trying very hard to appease you!!!
At least on first glance it's kinda all the good/great old stuff wrapped in a nice new bowtie...

But it's just a trailer in the end...
Go go gameplay movies!

It almost looks like Blood Will Tell, but made by suda51... I'm in.

Why do I get the feeling the combat is going to be downright hellish to keep track of?

I'm not entirely fond of all the flashing effects on screen. Between the way they hide the action and the way they hurt my eyes, I'm reminded that I hated playing both Killer 7 and NMH, but that I kept playing them because I wanted to see what would happen next and how fucked up it was.

huh, this and the bosses trailer for Metal Gear Rising came out right around the same time as Ninja Theory's attempt at a DMC game. It's almost like Suda and Platinum Games are saying "This is how you make these games, fools!"

Me too! Lemme know if you have any leads?

OT: The moment that summed up the whole trailer for me was when somebody on screen said "You don't understand anything, do you?" and I shouted back "No! No I do not!"

I watched the trailer before reading the article. Is it bad I could tell it was a Suda 51 game before the 60 sec mark?

Yep, that has Suda 51's fingerprints all over it. It doesn't look like anything groundbreaking though, I'll probably give this one a pass.

Maybe if it wasn't so stylized.

Couldn't help but laugh at Usopp despite the gravity of the scene.

Back to the matter at hand: I wonder if this all makes sense to the Japanese. I get the impression that everyone else had a 'WTF?' moment as with anything attached to Suda51.

Sometimes I wonder if being an LSD addict is an actual job requirement when signing up for development of a Suda 51 game.

Wow, this looks a lot more entertaining than any of Suda 51's recent games. I hope he goes back to something at least reminiscent of the insane, convoluted narratives that characterized games like Killer 7 and Flower Sun and Rain. Gameplay issues aside, his recent work has featured fairly simple, straightforward narratives, which is kind of the polar opposite of what made him famous in the first place.

So it's like somebody took no more heroes and then removed all the retro gaming and replaced it with dubstep?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but is this the first Grasshopper game not in English? Also, crazy love baby of NMH and Killer7? May finally be time to bite the bullet on a 360. This looks like much more pure Suda51 than Shadow of the Damned or Lollipop Chainsaw.

Well.. Glad to see Suda 51 is still making.. Things..

>.<

Well it certainly looks interesting, I'll buy it no doubt, I buy all of Suda's stuff. He's ossum! <3

My thoughts exactly, and I'm assuming this is the game that Suda had been making "based" on Killer7's world.

I don't know, Suda's games lately have been lackluster to say the least. I'd like to put some faith into this but it looks like they just plan on remaking No More Heroes again.

His games suck. But, i would love to see him direct a movie....would be awesome. Look at The Machine Girl, Tokyo Gore Police or Robo-Geisha. Suda would rule in film media.

Here's what I got out of it: Over the top violence, red blood, plenty of action, superb visual style and classical music married to dubstep bass.

I like it.

Definitely interested.

What I find funny is that Augus' voice actor from Asura's Wrath appears in the trailer and then Dvorak's 9h starts playing.

Not sure if intentional or coincidental.

Not gonna lie, this is looking pretty awesome.
