32 teams will be invited to Hollywood for the event, with the winners taking home $100,000 each.

Activision and Microsoft's Xbox team has just announced a new Black Ops 2 tournament taking place in April with a whopping $1 million purse. And this showdown isn't just for pro teams; If you have a crew that you think can beat the best of the best, you're welcome to register for no cost via the tournament's official website.

Throughout February, teams can compete in online league play to improve their ranking. When the month comes to a close, the top eight teams will be invited to Hollywood where the final head-to-head matchups will take place. The rest of the 32-team tournament bracket will be populated with players from MLG's 2013 Pro Circuit event in Dallas, as well as groups from the ESL's European Finals, both of which take place in March. Players in Asia, Australia, and Brazil will also be able to qualify for seats at the event, though the region-specific details aren't yet available.

When the dust settles, the top 4-person team will take home $400,000, 2nd place will net $200,000, and 3rd will be awarded $120,000. The rest of the prize pool is split up amongst the remaining top 8 teams.

Well, there's a prize worth playing for.

Here's hoping they do some tweaks to it beforehand.

I can't even imagine the sheer rage I would feel at losing $100,000 to LAG.

So the Call of Duty equivalent to Dota 2's International? I can dig it.

How the the Hell do you play COD seriously ? There are plenty of FPS games that deserve this way more. Counter-Strike Global Offensive is one of them, hell, Quake is still far more viable then any COD for competitive play.

COD isn't know much for its skill, tactic or team play abilities. It's just a gun crazed shooter with some major balancing issues. It's easy, that's why 13 year old's especially love it.

The single-player campaign was average at best. The only thing that keeps a multi-player going is the learning curve. No amount of new weapons, ranks, upgrades is going to change that.

Seriously, look at CS. This game is still going strong after so many years.

COD4 still has an active community, just because people who follow each new release have moved on doesn't mean the fans have.

COD is also a massive moneymaker for Xbox. Not deserving? You know full well that if quake or counter strike made as much money for Microsoft as COD does, it'd have a tourney. This isn't about how good the game is, this is about how popular it is.

Edit:

Single player? COD has a better campaign than both of the games you listed, if you take into consideration cinematics, set pieces, pacing and the storyline in general. Hell, I didn't even like it and it was better.
