North Korea Blasts US With 'We Are The World' Missiles

You'll marvel at these special effects, courtesy of the North Korean propaganda department.

As cheerful pop blithers away in the background, a sleeping North Korean spaceman dreams of the day he can cruise over the planet, look down on the adoring world, and blow up the bits he doesn't like. Presumably North Korea intends to make a brighter day, but apparently love isn't all it needs.

The video comes courtesy of Uriminzokkiri ('Our Nation'), North Korea's propaganda website. Our Nation is part of North Korea's media blitz - it has Twitter and Facebook accounts too - launched in 2010 to improve North Korea's image. "Despite attempts by imperialists to isolate and crush us," reads one caption in the video, "never will anyone be able to stop the people marching towards a final victory."

This venture into dreamland comes as North Korea gears itself up for its latest nuclear test, and may have been intended as a response to the threat of sanctions that the UN security council intends to impose, should it go ahead with its plans. North Korea's rocket launches have met with mixed success in the past; Kwangmyŏngsŏng-3 splashed down in the Yellow Sea in April 2012, but Kwangmyŏngsŏng-3 Unit 2's December 2012 launch was a partial success, inasmuch as it did reach orbit.

Honestly these people are turning into an amusing little side show, claiming that they're going to take over the world when they can't even launch one rocket without causing the poverty rate to sky rocket. I'm surprised the poor people that have to live under the rule of these idiots haven't rebelled yet.

There's irony in there somewhere....XD

Kinda reminds you of the early parts of Iron Man 2,doesn't it? Where the other contries are trying to replicate Tony's Armor, only to end horribly?

I really wish NK would fire a missile at America, just so America can shoot it down and have free rein to kick NK ass. lol. Not even China could back up NK if they actually launched a missile.....China is already getting annoyed with NK. Its like the mouthy little brother that China has to keep making apologies and excuses for.

That was some nice MW3 footage

Honestly, can we just put those people out of their misery already?
Canada, Britian, Australia, New Zealand: you wouldn't mind looking the other way would you?
It's just one city.

Move over Pixar, North Korea are the next big thing in CGI blockbusters.

If the nuclear holocaust has a cheery soundtrack and sparkles, maybe it won't be so bad after all? They'll have to work on Engrish subtitles though. If I'm burning in nuclear fire I'd at least like to be kept in the loop.

I had a really hard time understanding what the fuck was actually happening in that video to be honest. Some Korean guy had a wet dream about flying a rocket around and blowing up the US? Am I interpreting this correctly?

"Just one city"? There's more to North Korea than a single city.

And I don't think any rational person would look the other way at the slaughtering of millions of innocents. North Korean's are not a hive mind.

Stuff like this makes me wonder why we keep making North Korea the super villains in our Modern Military shit. As entertaining as Crysis, Homefront, and Red Dawn were, come on guys. These people can barely feed themselves.

That's... exactly the point. All we'd need to do is take out Pyongyang.

It's because we don't want to offend the Chinese.

You know, those falling shiny green stars look a LOT like the falling crosses from the big Third Impact sequence in The End of Evangelion. Way to go NK.

Propaganda?
To whom?
To north koreans? How much of them actually have PC and internet access?
If it's for uneducated and ignorant non-north-koreans, then please write things in language most of us understand!
English for example, or release multiple versions with different languages.
Because if it's only in korean, then these propaganda "specialists" fail at propaganda :/
To be honest I don't feel converted, seriously try harder, dammit!

Fun fact: The graphics are at least in part, if not entirely from Modern Warfare 3.

I knew that Activision is being run by North Korea
IT ALL MAKES SENSE NOW!!!

I would slaughter 3M people to make life for remaining 20M better
Greater good'n'shit...

When a country can't even pull off realist special effects I kinda stop fearing them as credible threat to world safety, or at least I wound have if I hadn't realized years ago that that nation has been run by a series of phenomenal morons for the better part of at least the last half century.

But still I'm wondering to myself if they actually paid for the right to "We Are The World" or not, Knowing the region I'm guessing probably not.

Thank god they didn't use their strongest weapon against us...

They have awesome air you know :D

I saw that, hilarious that they can't even take their own effects but they use a US developed game for their video.

Hey MAFIAA, why don't you get up N.Korea's ass about copyright infringement? >:\
Ripping off "We are the world" to promote their propaganda... and this kind of shit isn't the first case where copyright means nothing to these people :U
Why is that YouTube video even up when the internet is supposed to be censored in these countries ..seems a bit hypocritical :\

This would be hilarious if they wernt such a nasty bunch of murdering psychopaths (execution by mortar shell for example). As much as we joke about them they have nuclear weapons and if pushed back to the wall would likely use them.

Karloff:
Uriminzokkiri ('Our Nation')

That's a very gracious translation you've got there.

At around 2:11, we see NK's interpretation of destroying the US... But!

Not sure how to embed a video at a certain starting time, but here you go:

^Even when North Korea is trying to be scary, they still make me laugh my ass off.

erttheking:

As I understand it, North Korea is very cut off from the rest of the world and there's a strong cult of personality. I doubt the thought has even occurred.

Why,why am I finding this so amusing with the fact that an entire nation is taking it seriously.Someone needs to put them out of their "misery" or cause mental trauma by removing the curtains.
And my curiosity drives me to want to actually go there and see what the hell is happening.
I was born too late to see stuff like this, the propaganda of the totalitarian days here,is now heavily edited and the implications of it are subjected to a "democratic" view,so I can't fathom how this is something to be taken seriously.

Did I just watch someone's highschool animation project? and did it score more than a C- 5 years ago?

This makes me think of a short crazy person with a twitchy eye, doesn't get out much and hates everyone, 'cos he got beat up once in a fight he started - but don't worry, those who beat him down are on his list..

You don't want to meet this person in a dark alleyway, 'cos they is fuckin NUTS!

Good point!

Also, this video is obviously a hate message.. if I was to make a video depicting me dreaming of killing a particular ethnic minority (not that I would, just an example) I'd be strung up by the short & curlies before I could release the mouse from pressing Submit to Youtube.

Seriously double standards you guys.

I'm less concerned about the video, as I am with the trend it shows, we're seeing more and more intense, anti-US propaganda, rallying people against us and our interests (which we have not been taking care of) without any real retalation from the US goverment. A lot of this stuff having gone from "free speech" to outright threats, and I'm of the opinion that no matter what a country might look like now, we should be wary of threats coming from nations attempting to build a tech and/or power base.

When it comes to North Korea we really should take these guys out, because to be honest it doesn't matter if the people are starving if the goverment develops the technologies they are after, they still represent a threat. It's fun to laugh at their failures, but understand once they succeed it's arguably too late to really do a whole lot, which is what they are counting on. Likewise China backing them shouldn't matter so much because China is hardly an ally to The Western World which I think even hard core left wingers are slowly waking up to. It being better to act now against both of them than it is to wait until such action becomes nearly impossible.

I feel the same way about Iran, for very similar reasons.

Overall, I think we should pretty much just let Isreal have free reign to take out Iran and anyone else who gets out of line in the region, perhaps helping with the initial strikes to wreck their infrastructure and tech base, and then pull out and focus our interests and military on the far east which presents a far more direct, if "soft power" (for the most part) threat.

I'll probably get dozens of responses to this in the negative, but I'm not going to respond to them, since I'm just stating my thoughts rather than looking for a huge arguement on the subject. To me this kind of stuff is only hilarious before they actually succeed, and to be honest I think North Korea will continue right along, like "The Little Engine That Could", no matter how bad their famine gets, until they do have the abillity to mount WMD on a missle and deliver it either conventionally or via a space program. Something I feel also applies to Iran.

I'm less concerned with winning global popularity contests at the moment, than the US taking care of it's own interests and security at the moment, which is something I'mnot going to argue about right now as I said.

Plenty of north Koreans have access to computers. It's more about just what those computers are capable of accessing. And do you really think they'd make the video, leave it online and do nothing with it besides that? It's propaganda, it'll be smeared everywhere it can be. Just because you only saw it on YouTube (which I believe north Koreans don't even have access to in the first place), doesn't mean it'll be the only place it's shown.

Also, I think people are jumping to conclusions about the shuttle bombing America. I don't agree with the depiction at all, but the sense I got from it was more that America was in a state of permanent civil unrest and rebellion (something NK has been saying for decades). It just kinda fits more with their usual propaganda techniques (showing a happy, healthy NK, then a dangerous, war torn America). Would help though if we had a translated subtitles though.

Of course, playing in the background, an american song.
Whoever did this was a fucking idiot not very well informed on what the actual message was supposed to be.
Also all the colorful swirls left and right.
what?
EDIT: also it looks like they're living 20 years in the past.

United States: "North Korea is dangerous and kinda evil."
North Korea: "You're wrong! We're not weak at all! We're strong!"

P.S. Thanks

Well that was good for a laugh.

I'd say closer to 30 years, those are early 1980's era effects (Flash Gordon was 1980... Flash looks a little better than this.)

it's the only possible explanation
