Far Cry 3 Gets Tougher in Upcoming Patches

Far Cry 3 Gets Tougher in Upcoming Patches

Revisit the rabbit hole with repopulated outposts and an all-new difficulty setting.

If you're still playing Far Cry 3, you've probably reclaimed most of the Rook Islands by now, converting hostile outposts into safe havens and turning the whole place into a getaway resort with a few straggling pirates. Ubisoft are looking to improve the campaign's replay value by introducing the ability to reset outposts and a more fierce difficulty option in future patches.

Once you've cleared all the existing outposts and completed the game, a menu item in the gameplay options menu called "Reset Outposts" will appear. This will make all outposts on the island hostile once more, so you can go back and turn those pirates into pincushions all over again. Any incomplete side missions and quests will be hidden as if the outpost hadn't been discovered; in order to finish the incomplete side quests, you'll have to retake the outpost once more.

Ubisoft also revealed a new "Master" difficulty setting, which offers "more aggressive wildlife, tougher pirates, and more deadly privateers".

Additional features are also inbound for the game's multiplayer. The feedback system for user-created maps will be tweaked to provide more information to the maps' creators. Map makers can also look forward to the option of beta testing and spectating their maps as volunteers try out the new layout and provide feedback afterwards, which should improve the quality of user-generated maps as opposed to releasing them as-is into the wild.

Other multiplayer tweaks, such as adjustments to idle kick times, map searching by author, and changes to the "skip map" voting system are also on the horizon.

No official dates were announced for the upcoming features just yet.

This is unlikely to help since the AI in this game is a total doofus.

Challenging wildlife should do something since you can get attack by alligators and sharks at an inch deep rainwater pools.

Really...

Because you know, clearing outposts again and again wasn't already boring enough.

And they can make all the changes to their map-making system they want. They've already permanently hamstrung what could have been an awesome competitive FPS pub game with horrid listen servers.

You spend more time staring at 'Migrating Host' screens than you do playing the game.

Agree with you can give them all the health, and guns you want but the AI is still going to just stand in front of me while I stab them with bullets.

Here's another person hoping "tougher" means smarter, not "equipped with bullet resistant t-shirts".

NOPE! They all are on PCP now and can be shot in the face 6 or seven times. Honestly I do not even play hard modes anymore. It just pisses me off when you shoot someone in the head and they act like you spit on them. So many games have made hard mode just give the enemies the ability to tank damage and do nothing for the real game play.

Remember when hard mode meant more enemies and they acted different? Flip side is of course headseeking bullets and being able to see you 2 miles away in a bush....

Resetting all of the outposts? YES PLEASE!

Ugh, don't remind me. Call of Duty: World at War on Veteran has by far been the most egregious offender of both types of negatives I have ever seen. Grenades literally come out of nowhere, out of nothingness. The enemies can turn 180 instantly, literally. Their guns are actually more powerful, while you're given less health (because fuck common sense). Oh, and I've seen them eat ten rounds of ammunition like it was nothing, and thats not counting when they go into what is known as "last stand" which is actually broken for an entirely different reason that also can be used to insta-kill you. That isn't a game, its masochistic torture.

I don't know why some people are whining about this. If you don't want to use this feature, then don't. I think this is a good idea.

Just bring out story DLC, with another character possibly. Actual missions are more fun than just doing outposts over and over again.

When was the last time we had a game with challenging AI?

Well it's not like it's being forced on the player. People are disappointed because simply making the pirates "tougher" drags out the game, not make it harder. And they were hoping for more post game content than merely reseting the outposts.

Reset all the outposts? Fuck yea! Things get too calm after you clear out everything. Anyways, new difficulty is meh, unless it makes the AI more aggressive for pirates and privateers and not just animals.

so, i'm assuming master difficulty replaces all of the guerrillas with crocodiles wielding assault rifles

Naw, sharks. Those bastards turn up at the worst times, like when I'm skinning one of their friends that got run over by me in a jet ski. Seriously, sharks in Farcry 3 have rekindled my fear of deep water.

I'd think everyone would have wanted this by now and now seems like a good time to accomplish Dr Evil's one dream.

i wish they would had polished the ai of your enemies so they can themselves start to attack the outposts you conquered and retake them.

it would be better than just have a magic button that resets everything.

This. If I get to a vehicle, any attacking animal just immediately slinks off. A buffalo in real life would attempt to knock my vehicle over.
