Well that was underwhelming, for the most part. I did like it when the guy walked on to Crash Bandicoot music though.

Draconalis:
they never actually showed what the console looks like...

JokerboyJordan:
After all that...we didn't even see what the damn thing looked like.

I agree, what the hell?

J Tyran:
More promising than the Wii U though.

That's pretty damn easy to do though considering how crappy and outdated the Wii U is.

Black, probably.

Or the price, when it is expected to come out. Basically the whole presentation was more or less a huge waste of time since they created more questions than answers.

Well, that turned out to be unsurprising... We didn't get to see the console and the launch roaster is filled with big AAA sequels and over the top tech demos.

All the streaming and interconnectivity gimmick was fun thou..

They never got to talk about prices, right?

It certainly doesnt look bad, but that "social" shit just doesnt mean anything to me and the actual games shown here that will probably be exclusives dont seem all that interesting. Still no abuse of gimmicks and we all know that Microsoft will probably go up to 11 with Facebook style social hub and gimmicks.

Ugh, all the lagging and trying to focus on the screen has givin me a headache. Well, PS4 announced. Interesting games and possibilities. So long as it's real. We'll see what they come up with next. As for me, I need to lay down in a dark room with no sound.

Maybe they wanted to keep the hype going, though cant say i'm not annoyed at the lack of an image of the console.

I'm honestly shocked they didn't show what the actual system looked like. I'm really not feeling much excitement about this, especially since they confirmed there is no PS3 backwards compatibility. So it would seem those rumors of having to stream older games you already own physical copies of is true.

Their probably going to show off the PS4 at this years E3.

Guy Jackson:
I love how those three "other guys from Bungie" just walked on stage, stood in the background for thirty seconds, then walked off again.

I particularly noticed none of them knew what to do with their arms, they just had that arm placement you only EVER have when you are in a slightly awkward situation where you get that "don't know what to do with my arms" feeling.

5/10

Pretty lackluster overall. No new exclusives, very little in the way of new IPs and they were all from 3rd party sources.

"SOCIALSOCIALSOCIALSOCIALSOCIAL" seems to be the new mantra.

Can't say it's captured my attention.

You realize that they can't show all the "cards" they have in febuary... E3 is coming, and that is where the "big bang" of console look, price point, and other releases will happen.

Personally, I am quite pleased with what I saw/heard. Interested to see what Diablo III will look like, as well as Destiny in beta/final production. Watch Dogs looks good and smooth, and a Final fantasy game (while I Wasn't a huge fan of 13 or 13-2) is always nice to see, even if its just for the eye candy alone.

I think people are forgetting about E3. They're probably waiting for that to announce pricing and what it looks like. They just want to get people hyped at it. If they revealed everything now they would have nothing to show at E3.

Right at the end it said "Holiday 2013" so this year, around the holidays.

Well that at least told people what they needed to know. The style of the hardware might still be getting worked out, plus they need to reveal something at E3 and TGS. They'll wait for one of those to show off the hardware, give a precise release date, and give prices.

Most of what they showed off I'm actually pretty excited about. They didn't stumble with too much other than the device seems to want to help me find games a bit too much.

Also, BC through streaming was coming and was a necessity, and everyone knows it. All PS2 games never worked on the PS3 because the hardware architecture was goofy... it made it hard to hack, but a pain to program for, and a nightmare to emulate. PS3 is probably goofier than that, so it was pretty much impossible to get everything emulated on one console.

The streaming solution was pretty much the only happy medium they could do at all, then basically make sure the PS4 onwards will be MUCH easier to emulate with its PC architecture. Remember they had the same issue with the PSP, the Go, and the Vita. It's nice that Sony's at least trying to get BC back in their systems, but there's going to be some system shock involved. They'll have to make the streaming work very well, and then probably eat some profits from it to make people interested in using it. The price point is key to make the streaming work... hopefully they get it right.

Funny you say that it was a "necessity" because as a consumer it wasn't for us. It was a "necessity" for Sony to make their problems our problems. I'd rather have simple BC rather than some streaming BS which no offense but judging how slow the console's bandwidth are, I can't see it being a smooth experience.

So... what, put a PS2 and PS3 in every PS4, make it $1000? You don't get it... Sony tried getting software emulation for the PS2 working, and never could. Only 8 or 9 out of every 10 titles worked, and there were countless glitches. Clearly they saw the problems with their hardware, because the PS4 is PC-based. But they can't retroactively make the PS2 and 3's hardware architecture not suck. It's a pipe dream.

The funny thing is, they're not building hype by showing us all these tidbits now, they're just alleviating it.

If anything Microsoft are the ones the hype is surrounding now. What are they going to do in response?

My thoughts exactly. If they revealed everything they had planned tonight, E3 would pretty much be a wash on Sony's end.

I'm glad they got the announcement out of the way now. All the plans they have for the system are known now, so at E3 they can focus on the games, which is something a certain other console developer has been neglecting to do these past few years. Here's hoping that the next Xbox gets the same early reveal so we can finally get back to good Microsoft E3 conferences. Kinect and Smartglass just aren't my thing.

I'm saying Sep/Oct, so for when the dates released I called it :-P lol

Dear god, I didn't even know that it was possible to put so many buzzwords in just two hours and give us so little information. All I wanted, was to see the damn thing, know it's specs and the price.

Again that is Sony's problem not the consumers. They decided instead of making it work they would put their problems on the consumer and I can't support that.

Edit: Ignore my response I didn't know I was responding to a troll.

Then... you're kinda stupid, thinking they'd blow their wad about their console 9 months before it's probably coming out, with TWO game conventions coming up.

Seriously, you should feel bad.

Weird, I don't feel bad at all. Maybe because I don't think that it's stupid to want to know these things instead of listening to some people circlejerk about unnecessary features the whole time.
