Saints Row IV Takes You "From the Crack House to the White House"

The Third Street Saints will be wreaking havoc again in August's Saints Row IV.

The fact that Saints Row IV has been in development at former THQ studio Volition isn't really a secret. THQ's last president Jason Rubin stated that the game was coming in 2013 when he pulled the plug on a planned Saints Row: The Third expansion last summer. It appears that THQ's subsequent backruptcy and the acquisition of Volition by Deep Silver haven't affected that release window: Volition's new parent company has announced that Saints Row IV is coming to North America on August 20, 2013. The worldwide release will follow three days later on August 23.

The news was posted on Twitter, with the accompanying teaser trailer posted to Deep Silver's Youtube account. The accompanying text gives a brief description of what to expect: "From the Crack House to the White House... The ball-busting next chapter in the Saints Row franchise is starting a party in your pants this August." The video has plenty of the series' trademark quirkiness, like offbeat weapons and vehicles, scantily clad men and women, and bizarre costumes.

Saints Row: The Third was met with critical acclaim when it launched in late 2011, cementing it as one of THQ's flagship series. Sadly, THQ is gone forever, but at least the Third Street Saints live on.

Can't wait :D

And it looks like it's going to be crazier than ever as well. Although I do hope that there are some moments of non-crazy stuff, just to balance it out a bit this time, as opposed to 3, where it was just "all crazy, all the time" which left it feeling a bit shallow.

Maybe the Third Street Saints should have packed it in. This screams "tryhard."

Looks interesting, I hope it is a nice long campaign and doesnt show that it is an expansion pack turned full game

remember the good mix of comedy and drama in saints row 2?

yeah, fuck it. :P

Eh, I think that is exactly what it will be. The graphics and gameplay (minus the super powers) look EXACTLY like Saints Row 3. While I don't mind, it just looks rushed as hell.

I really hope I am wrong, though.

Superpowers?
Fuck yes.

I just hope there's more customisation this time around.

I dont mind the graphics and gameplay, both were good in SR3, I just want a LONG story with lots to do.

Cautiously optimistic.

Not enough for a day one purchase but enough that I'll consider buying it.

I would be lying if I said SR3 didn't need more content. I loved that game but it needed more to keep it going, more clothes, missions, ect.

But at the same time, if this game is roughly the same size as the previous game I think I'd be very happy with that.

Oh goody! Can't wait! the good thing about this is that it's not all that hard to get wrong. after all, it's kinda dumb so if they mess up the story, i'll still be having tons of fun blowing stuff up.

Okay ... looking by the trailer.
Well I'm uncertain what it is trying to accomplish ... well with insanity, craziness and weirdness out of the way. XD

I'm going to buy it I'll say that much since I'm a HUGE fan of the series.
I just hope for a couple of things.

- More customization. (As most of you say. I think they lessened it a bit for 3. D:)
- A story more like 2.
- Better activities. (Throw out the boring ones used in every game ... COPS was awesome)
- A better map. (SR2 was varied, it had a university, suburbs, a beach and etc. SR3 was limited to city and a suburb or 2.)
- More brutal weapons. (I honestly expected the sword to do something like in SR2. :/)
- Buy-able pads.
- Better DLC.
- And etc.

I can keep going on and on about this but I still am going to buy it. >.<
I just hope that Deep Silver (Is that the new guys) will make it more of a perfect balance between Saints Row 2 and Saints Row: The Third.

And God help us if we get a kickass collectors edition like SR2. >:D

Remember when this series used to be about brutal Gang warfare and not superpowers?

At least we still have GTA 5 to look forward to

Would have been sweet if we could inport our SR2 character
Would have been sweet if they'd imported a few more things, like a sense of accomplishment.

Knew it would come. I'm already sold.
And that it looks more or less like SR3, visually, isn't a bad thing, either. First, this is probably from an earlier version, so there might be changes. AND SR3 was far from ugly. The overall asthetic were simply sweet.
The only bad thing is that - as far as I saw it in the trailer - there is only Steelport again (that it would come was kind of obvious after they added "Enter the Dominatrix" into 4). Which wouldn't be a bad thing, but it would be far more awesome to have Stillwater in it, too.

I mostly remember it being a mess of a port for PC and that your character was just a a-hole.
Besides, if I want Drama in my Sandbox-Gangstergame, I got to GTA. If I want to go bonkers, I got to the Saints. Mixing those... might work in a crossover?

Maybe the Expansion-part of it will look like - but SR4 was from the very beginning a stand-alone game. Just late-summer of last year, they decided to ADD that thing into SR4.

yeah it was great wasn't it,

and thats why I'll be replaying Saint's Row II and avoiding this like the plague!

as someone who absolutely avided the saintsrow series for being an imature pile of steaming crap until i got the third game as part of the thq bundle i have to say bring on the insanity, i miss skydiving out of a crashing fighter wearing a pink panda suit so i can nick a main battle tank armed with only a sex toy

Bindal:

Exactly. I think that's what most people are missing. I wouldn't say I'm a huge Saints Row fan, I played II and "The Third," and I liked them both.

But sometimes it's fun to just do crazy shit that couldn't possibly ever happen. This is what I want to see in SR4.
Only thing I'm worried about is rushed development and/ or less customisation.

Captcha: How are you

Very fine, thank you Mr Captcha.

I don't think, you have to worry much about that. There is a reason Deep Silver delayed the original release until September - so it wouldn't be rushed.

Another year another Saint's Row, time to make some money.

The engine and design are looking very much like what was used in Saints Row The Third, but I'm down with this. I can't expect that Volition would have amiable deadlines, so I'm all in favour to them using old tech to fill in a good chunk of development time, allowing them to screw around with familiar tools and go nuts beyond their wildest ambitions. And I'd like to think that's all Saints Row is about after all: going nuts.

Best of luck to you Volition. I've got my fingers crossed for you.

^These.

I'm hyped. Maybe I'll try to do a Saint's cosplay after all for NYCC (a guitar case would be easier to get than a dildo bat, not to mention wouldn't nearly as awkward to transport).

Love it. Only thing I didn't like about SR3 was the length of the game and that many main story missions were just tutorials for the various events. If they fixed those two problems I'm going to have a lot of fun. I don't care about any seriousness in this game, all I want in this game is to have fun.
However, I do have a slight feeling that it might have been rushed but it's too early to judge that.

Some of you guys like this? It looks like garbage!

Errr guys, its just a Saints Row 3 DLC repackaged as a full price game...

I mean look at it, same graphics, same engine, same city, same clothes, same everything, IT IS SR3, just with new content.

GTA was never about serious drama until GTA IV and even then the game still exists in some sort of absurd parody world. Saints Row 2 had some very dark humour which I really enjoyed coupled with some good characterisation and engaging villains, The Third however seemed to amplify the sillier parts of Saints Row 2 while removing most of the really pitch black humour and while the good characterisation still sort of remains the engaging villains do not. Personally I really liked the fact that the main character was a complete psychopath in part two since it does fit in with the gameplay while the anti-hero of the third game kinda does not.

The PC port was utter shit though, ill give you that.

Immortal_Engines:

They worked on that game basically the moment 3 came out and having the same graphics-style as the third game isn't a bad idea, either, as 3 had a very fitting style for "just go nuts" with it's bright colors.

Well, they apparently tossed all sense of reality out the window.

Awesome.

GTA V for some drama and cousin movie seeing.
SR 4 for, well, dicking around.

It looks just like the third one to me...I like the new S&M costume (that is new, isn't it?) and the Tex Avery ray. Hopefully we get the same depth as in SR2 though. Also, since they tried making a 3DS Saint's Row, I'm hoping this is a sign that Saint's Row IV will be brought onto the Wii U at some point. Fingers crossed!

Wheeeee!
Ramp up the insanity some more! :D

Adam Jensen:
Some of you guys like this? It looks like garbage!

Looks like? No my dear boy, it is garbage!

Saints Row's charm is that it's completely off the deep end, forget nuance and subtlety, this is a video game and it's going to behave like one! The controls and game play have always been very good, on a technical level they hold together very well.

Number 3 needed a longer campaign, it just sort of ends abruptly, but I still loved it. I can pinpoint the exact moment too, fourth mission, standing in a helicopter looking out across a neon skyline (which is strikingly pretty), then you jump out of it, parachute onto a penthouse flat and the Kanye West starts.

I don't even like the record that plays, but the tone is so over the top and it fits so perfectly it's impossible to not be having fun at that point.

Looks very similar to the third game, but then Saints Row 2 looked very similar to the first one and look how that turned out.

Genocidicles:

Hopefully they wont reuse Steelport, or at the very least make it more interesting.

That looks so much over the top it can't even see Gangsters in Space from there. I love it already!

I'm kinda worried that they just took the previously planned DLC and added more stuff to it.

Love it, cant wait to get my hands on it. I found SR3 to be insanely enjoyable though I felt the expansion packs were a bit meh. Didn't think the storyline was too short but I did spend a lot of time doing every single side mission and activity.
