The 2013 Steam Indie Spring Sale Is Here!

image

Spring is here, and that means it's time to get our your money and throw it at Steam.

On the off-chance that you have any money left over from the last Steam sale, it's time to brace yourself for the next Steam sale - the 2013 Indie Spring Sale, to be precise. As you may have sussed out from the name, this one is all about indie games, and being a Steam sale, the deals are pretty freakin' awesome.

A random sampling of the sweetness, "random" meaning that every game in the list reflects my own particular preferences and bias:

  • Hotline Miami - $4.99
  • Amnesia: The Dark Descent - $4.99
  • Strike Suit Zero - $11.99
  • Legend of Grimrock - $7.49
  • Thomas Was Alone - $4.99
  • Gish - $2.49
  • The Binding of Isaac - $1.24
  • Organ Trail: Director's Cut - $3.99

That's just a very small sample of what's available, but you know how Steam rolls. There's all kinds of stuff: new releases, old favorites, award winners, even bundles - you can pick up the entire Amanita Collection, which includes Samorost 2, Machinarium and Botanicula for $7.49, or To the Moon plus the soundtrack for $4.99. Good games, and lots of them, on the serious cheap.

The 2013 Steam Indie Spring Sale runs until March 29. You're welcome.

No Recettear in that list?[1]

Son. I am disappoint.

[1] Clarification: OP's list.

I bet the game I bought a week ago will be on there...

*checks*

Huh, it's not. That makes me a little glad, because games I buy on Steam always seem to go on sale the week after.

Either way I won't be getting any new games, even though there are some cool offers. I have Bioshock next week, and Tomb Raider soon as well.

Son. I am disappoint.

Not on the first day, but almost certainly at some point over the next week.

It's just not on the list of featured games. In fact, it's a little hard to find a full list of all the indies on sale right now. But recettear IS on sale for 66% off.

4.99 for amnesia? That's less than a cent for every moment you feel too scared to go on...

I never understood why people always complained about Steam draining their moneys. Surely, they can hold on to their moneys if they want to?

I stand so very, very corrected.

This is really nice, but I wish I could find a straightforward list of all the games on sale.

Who's the female character on the right in the picture?

I am already making a list of games I might buy, damn my weak willpower...

Organ Trail Director's Cut? Do we get to hunt Sasquatch now?

Not really anything i desire yet, which is good.
(my wallet is safe, for now.)

mdqp:

I'm pretty sure that's the Goddess of Time from Half Minute Hero.

Falterfire:
I'm pretty sure that's the Goddess of Time from Half Minute Hero.

It looked pretty familiar, but I couldn't place her... Thanks! :D

Ummm *checks wallet*

Oh dear, it seems my money just grew wings TT

Hotline Miami shall finally be MINE.
ULTRA-VIOLENCE, HERE I COME.
MuUHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAH

I bought Awesomenauts YESTERDAY.

Dammit.

So, what does everybody recommend? There's a lot here and I, for one, don't want to be all of these things!!!

ninjaRiv:

Well, there's a lot on sale. It would help us recommend stuff if you'd tell us what games you enjoy. Would you kindly list a few of your favorite games so we can get a feel for what you like?

Actually, I was thinking it would benefit everybody if people said which ones they've really enjoyed in the past. I like too many games so I'm open for anything thoroughly interesting and well done.

My poor wallet! My poor backlog! Please, someone, make cesium 133 atoms emit more than 794243384928000 periods of radiation every day!

But yes, definitely keeping my eye on that, even if I do have a lot of the indies I wanted already, but there's always something new...

"I've got 500 scary moments but money ain't one"?

EDIT:

mdqp:

That would be the Goddess of Time from Half-Minute Hero: Super Mega Neo Climax Ultimate Boy. Quite a fun game and a funny excursion from traditional RPGs.

Anyways, I'm not quite interested yet in the sale but I know there will eventually be something I want.

Well, bastion is a dead ringer here. Hack and slasher with one of most sexy voices on the planet. Hack and slash kind of deal.

You can also check the featured ones on the main page of the sale. I liked recettear, but it has to do with the fact it feels so utterly charming. Probably even saccharine. It's a game where you(recette) own a shop and sell things a typical RPG character would want. Teh goal of it is to pay off a huge debt left by your father. Yo ucan do this by buying things and selling them off for a higher price, or venturing outside of town by hiring a mercenary to help you out. Haven't got far in it, but there's a demo if yo uwant to try the game out.

Awesomenauts is a Moba game in 2D, which about sums it up I think.

Giana sisters twisted dreams. I quite like this. A platformer with a dual world mechanic. It looks quite good. Though the dual world mechanic has more to do with the 2 entities you play as, which is one girl. Not getting the extras is an easy way of playing the game, but if you do decide to get those, you're in for a challenge. Extra modes can be unlocked in-game. One of them is a hardcore mode where you go through all levels in one sitting.

As another tip, there are some games that have gotten a wtf from totalbiscuit. He shows you the gameplay of the game in question and comments over it, what his thoughts are basically.

Captcha: stinky feet. Thanks for reminding me thatI have to do something about my feet, captcha...

Picked up the Bit trap series and Deadlight, oh and I highly suggest people pick up Giana sisters to anyone that's interested.

Alrighty, then, here's a few of my personal favorites:
Terraria (Currently $2.50): Like 2D Minecraft with more RPG elements including multiple bosses and rare gear and spells
Recettear (Currently $6.79): A JRPG based around managing an item shop. Has a demo which is a good representation of the whole game.
Giana Sisters (Currently $7.50): A fun platformer with a pretty neat twist. Also has a demo
Guns of Icarus Online (Currently $5): Tactical Airship combat with up to four players per airship and up to four airships per side. A bit rough around the edges, but still pretty fun if you have friends to play with.
FTL (Currently $5): If you like roguelikes and dying horribly in deep space, you'll enjoy this one.
Audiosurf/Beat Hazard/Symphony ($2.50/$2.50/$3.39): All of these have a general theme of 'Playing with your music'. Audiosurf is a puzzle game type thing, Beat Hazard is a twin stick shooter and Symphony is a bullet hell type thing, but if you enjoy one, you'll probably enjoy all of them.
Nation Red (Currently $2): Fun multiplayer topdown zombie killer. Not terribly deep, but at $2 a copy it's good for fun with up to four friends.
Jamestown (Currently $3.39): A top down bullet hell that's very well put together. Allows up to four same-screen players if you have a place to set that up.
World of Goo (Currently $2.50): A fun puzzle game involving building bridges and such and quirky humor.
Space Pirates and Zombies (Currently $2.50): A space game that's difficult to summarize, but quite a bit of fun. A bit too simple to be called a 4X, but too complex to be called a shooter.
Cave Story+ (Currently $3.99): A fun Platformer that's surprisingly difficult at times.
Psychonauts (Currently $4.99): Look, it's Psychonauts, okay? You've probably already heard of it.
Dungeons of Dredmor (Currently $2.50): A fun roguelike where you will die horribly while exploring dungeons with skills like Veganism and Mathomancy

That should be enough to get you started. Hopefully you'll enjoy at least one of the above, although if you follow the Humble Bundles you probably already have quite a few of them.

Thanks for the suggestions! I think Recettear is more my bag here. And Psychonauts, if I didn't already own it. It's also one of the best games ever, I think.

Yeah, think Ill check out Recettear. Thanks!

I'd rather pay for the full package, but that's just me.

What about Dark Souls? It's 50% off. I've heard conflicting stories about the quality of the PC port. I do have a 360 controller if the keyboard layout is an issue. I'd like to give it a go but I don't want another Devil May Cry 3 (PC port is awful) Is it worthwhile?

Personally picked Half-Minute Hero, Audio Surf and Hotline Miami. I've been putting it off getting HM for awhile, but since it's 5$, instant buy. Oh, does any body have any bandages, my wallet is hemorrhaging badly. Hang in there little guy, we still have to get Awesomenauts.

Braid is on sale for $4. I love platformers, yet I've never played Braid.

I think I must change that.

Other than that, most of the games I like on sale are either too good for my shitty PC (look, it runs Portal 1 fine on medium but nothing more, seizures whenever it plays Amnesia, and can't play Limbo at all. That bad) or I already have it.

I was literally just gifted Binding of Isaac yesterday. Have somehow played it for twenty hours already...just picked up the expansion!

No Recattear, Breath Of Death VII, Cthulu Saves The World or Super House Of Dead Ninjas? No sale, Hale!

"Need DLC? Why not buy entire games?"

so many games
so little money

.... must resist!
