ABC Releases First Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. TV Spot

Agent Coulson returns in a TV spot showcasing the television tie-in to The Avengers.

The Avengers was a success to the tune of $1.5 billion. Disney, being a company that likes copious amounts of cash, has understandably been interested in expanding on its Marvel properties both with new movies and a new television show. In August of 2012, ABC, also owned by Disney, ordered a pilot for S.H.I.E.L.D., a live-action television show written by Avengers-writer/director Joss Whedon and taking place alongside Disney's Marvel film franchises.

Eager to get the show moving, ABC fast-tracked the pilot in January of 2013, and a few days ago confirmed that it had ordered a season of the show, now called Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., which is set to debut this fall. Now, it has now released a full promo for eager fans to enjoy.

The TV spot, which aired during the season finale of Once Upon a Time, is pretty action heavy, showing off explosions, fast cars, and a few hints of superpowers here and there. It also features Gregg Clark, aka Agent Phil Coulson, who was previously confirmed to be returning to the role in spite of some unfortunate business in The Avengers. According to Couslon, who is still rocking the everyman cool he perfected in the Marvel films, "It's not just spy versus spy anymore. The whole world's in on the action."

It will be interesting to see where ABC, Disney and Marvel take Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Disney and Marvel already performed a feat in the creation of the interconnected film continuity that led The Avengers. Adding further complexity with an ongoing television series is another ambitious move and could easily serve as a platform for the launch of new superhero film and television franchises to bolster the company's growing stable of cash cows. All in all, it looks to be good news for fans, if only because Joss Whedon at the helm of a TV show is always fun. Here's hoping we get more than fourteen episodes of this one.

Not available in UK ... *Sob*

I hope they bring in a lot of the SHIELD characters from the comics for this. It'd be great to see some of Hickman's Secret Warriors make appearances.

oh ffs its just a youtube trailer to advertise the damn thing.

i hate region locking/blocking. its high time we flung away all that crap.
it makes practically no sense at all in a global economy with universal media formats.

To those who can't view it due to stupid region locked-

I have high hope for this series, if they do it right (which I guessing they will) we probably see alot of reference to the comic which I liked.

UK users can click the spoiler, dear God I hope this is good.

#EDIT, nevermind, Ninjad.

Well fuck you America, I didn't want to see your stupid awesome show anyway.

EDIT: Saw unlocked verion.

Agent Coulson.

Awwwwww yeeeeeeeeeah!

ok here's a non region locked one...i think.
tell me if i'm wrong.

Thanks to our fellow posters so us non-americans are able to view this trailer.
Seriously, fuck you ABC.

Looks nice though, see if i can also get my hands on it.

"Don't touch Lola."

So Lola is the car? Will there be a scene somwhere on a snowy night, in which Coulson attempts to escape only to find the the battery has run down and the engine won't turn over? And then won't he have to say, "Run, Lola, run"?

...

I'm sorry, that was completely uncalled for. On the other hand, it's kind of hard to get anything useful out of a trailer like this.

Fuck region locking. What the hell is the purpose? It's ironic how these people want to push a global community and then turn around and pull that.

Black guy in teaser displaying super strength? If they're not using Luke Cage I'll be pissed.

I think I saw Iron Fist too.

Sweet, I'll get right on... Wait, Fall? Somebody remind me in 4 months or whatever so I can set my DVR. Sheesh.

More Coulson is always good. Given that Joss is at the helm it should be good (and hopefully won't get cancelled far too early).

Video not available in the UK? Well, my money is not available in the US. *Shakes fist at ABC*

Thanks to those who posted non-locked vids, you're doing a better job at marketing this show than the creators. I was kind of interested in this but the trailer seems a bit meh. It's got snippets of Thor and Iron Man so will they actually be appearing in the show or was that to reinforce that it's a spin-off of The Avengers? Either way I probably won't watch it because it's either not going to be shown here at all or will take a year for someone at ABC to swim across the Atlantic with a copy to be broadcast.

After getting Satellite TV channels back in 2000, I lost interest in the basic TV channels I grew up on. Looks like I'll be setting my DVR to ABC once Agents of SHIELD hits this fall. =)

I hipe Lola survives at least.

The spot cameos from the big boys would take this to a whole other level.

As much as I'm interested, I'm a little worried about how (from what I've heard) this is even possible:

That's the kind of WTF stupidity that sets a bad tone for me.

Trailer not available in my country? I guess you expect me to wait 2 years until some local TV buys your rights and serves it to me in a bastardized dubbed version, and 3 times as long thanks to ads.

Yep, you can not see the trailer right away to see what the rest of the world is about to see!

Gah. They'll never learn.

I'm pretty ready for another Whedon TV series, Marvel-related or otherwise (though the potential inherent in the continuity between this project and The Avengers is certainly enticing). I've got high hopes for this if for no other reason than the fact that Fox can't cancel shows on other networks . . . yet.

I find it funny that all the British people are complaining about actually being region-locked from an ABC video when we Americans have to deal with the BBC region-locking stuff all the time. Man, you guys get to watch Doctor Who online for free! We can't even watch the trailers on the official website. We have to wait until BBC America throws us a commercial-riddled copy a week later. This is how it feels, ya pampered limeys!

*ahem*

That aside, looks great. In lieu of any interest in the comics themselves, I'm a big fan of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

I'm glad this is still happening, but there's one thing I don't get: What is it with everyone and Phil Coulson? At his best, best he was an uninteresting character. At his worst, he was annoying. So why is it that the fanbase thinks he's most hilarious character from Avengers and the lead-up movies? Honestly, it's about as easy to understand as how Boba Fett became so popular.

Hm. Honestly I thought they were pretty clear about telegraphing that in the movie. I didn't catch it the first time I watched, but the second time seemed to have an acceptable amount of winking and nudging in the way things were phrased, particularly when Fury was talking. Totally my opinion, though, your milage may vary.

Um I thought it was pretty obvious from the movie that Agent Coulson didn't die.

If they have some bit cameos this show might be awesome, though we'll never see any mutants or Spiderman since other studios still own the rights.

Wait, why is he still alive? >_>

I'm not really sure how this is dumb. And yes,

antipunt:
Wait, why is he still alive? >_>

He's a Doombot. This is all setting up the new Fantastic Four movie, which will actually be an extended piece of MCU continuity thanks to some clever lawyering.

Oh crap, should have put that one in spoilers.

No he was a LMD.

couple of things about that...

we pay for it @ 12 ($18) a month ( you don't. aren't we generous ? :P ) and that includes paying for iPlayers (huge to the point it drives british internet infrastructure companies like BT nuts) internet bandwidth usage.

without region locking BBC iPlayer would still need to be limited in accessibility somehow (like say Netflix) because its paid for by its users.

this, on the other hand, is an advert on youtube...

Mr Dizazta:

No he was a LMD.

Y'know what? Dopey as that sounds, I'd be ok with it.

Aside from the meta-weirdness the situation creates, it also robs Loki of his only real accomplishment (I'm not going to count summoning the Chtouri(?) since he was basically a pawn), which does fit for his character as the "cocky jerk in over his head," but wow throw the guy a bone Whedon!

Piss on region locking! :(

How is Phil alive? Getting stabbed through the chest is pretty fatal. Can't be one of the Life Model Decoys, they're robots.

As much as I can't wait to see it, anyone else feel like it looks too much like an ABC TV series visually? I can't explain what that means exactly though, sort of like it looks like anything else they'd make, just that this happens to tie into Marvel?

Fappy:

A TV series would be the perfect place to introduce some of the supporting characters from the comics and the smaller time heroes, but apparently the entire main cast is all original for the movieverse, with the exception one guy who's role is as of yet unrevealed so that has me a little worried.
