Mirror's Edge 2 Listing Appears On Amazon.de

Mirror Edge 2

An entry for Mirror's Edge 2 has turned up on the German Amazon - and it's listed only for the Xbox.

It's been five long years since DICE tried something different with Mirror's Edge, the parkour action game that was acclaimed by critics and gamers alike but nonetheless failed to set the sales charts on fire. Hope springs eternal and calls for a sequel have never gone away entirely, but while various DICE and EA executive types make vaguely encouraging noises about it now and then, the odds of a second Mirror's Edge actually happening has never seemed all that terribly likely.

Take this with a grain of salt, then, or perhaps a handful, but a Mirror's Edge 2 listing has turned up on Amazon.de, which says it's not yet available or age rated, but is offering it for "reservation" right now. A couple of other relevant points: the site lists it for the Xbox 360 but the placeholder art suggests it's for the Xbox One, and either way it's hard to overlook the suggestion that it's a Microsoft exclusive; and the price is listed at €99.99, which works out to roughly $130. Wow.

This is definitely something you'll want to look at with your Elton John-sized "Unverified Rumor" glasses on, but here's something else to keep in mind: EA Labels President Frank Gibeau said earlier this month that the company will be showing "new titles from EA Sports, BioWare and DICE and a first look at some brand-new games" at E3 next month. Mirror's Edge may not have been a big hit, but an Xbox One-exclusive sequel rolled out at E3 during the Microsoft press event? For those who follow such things, I don't think you'd find a much more powerful attention-grabber than that.

God damn. I loved Mirror's Edge and I've been hoping to see a sequel for ages... but I really don't want to get an Xbone to play it. Moral dilemma!

I will indeed take this news with a grain of salt. But if it turns out Mirror's Edge 2 is XBone exclusive...I will be thoroughly pissed.

I loved Mirror's Edge. The only problem I had and still have with it is the short playtime. If it is a Xbox One exclusive, it's going to make me sad because nothing could entice me to by that sack of crap machine.

You know what, if I had a nickel for every time one of these sorts of listings showed up somewhere, news sites decided to report it, and absolutely nothing actually came of it, I could probably release my own damn console.

There's literally nothing to see here, and it disappoints me every time I see anyone report this kind of garbage while simultaneously telling people they should take it with a grain of salt. Because the people writing these articles know as well as we do that this is probably a load of bull but report on it anyway.

So what? Is it a slow news day or something?

Xbone and EA.

This is but a drop in the ocean, when it comes to both repairing their standing with me.

So what? Is it a slow news day or something?

No, it's an appearance of a widely hoped-for game on a legitimate site in the lead-up to the biggest videogame event in North America, at which Microsoft will be doing everything it can to make a big splash with new game reveals. In my eyes, that's worth some attention.

God damn, Mirror's Edge was one of my favourite games last generation so a sequel would be amazing.

Said sequel (possibly) being an Xbone exclusive however has sucked all the excitement I had for the (possible) game. Don't make me choose between my morals and my desires EA because morals will win every time.

Keep your filthy logic out of this, some people want to get outraged here!

OT: I really liked Mirrors Edge. It wasn't perfect, but I think considering how long it has been, and considering that it's got the backing of a very large publisher, a sequel could turn out to be an excellent game. Although the listing (assuming it's real) being only for the XBone is a little disheartening. Because I genuinely have no interest in the console at all, and even if Mirrors Edge 2 was a sequel, it's definitely not enough to change my mind about it.

On another note, while I don't like the trend of sticking multiplayer onto everything, it's the kind of game where co-op could work really well. There are so many possibilities for puzzles and plat-forming where you could use multiple players to get around.

A Microsoft exclusive? I understand Microsoft really needs some exclusives to entice people back after that god awful Xbox One reveal, but do they really need to make it a game that was already previously a multiplatform release? That seems low...

I had fun with Mirror's Edge, even though some of the fights got me pretty frustrated. The action was frantic, while leaving sections of the game open to calm zen-gymnastics. Plus, it had several strong female characters, which is never a bad thing in this industry.

One thing I can say: I really hope it comes to PC. Even if I owned a console, I don't want to play it with a controller.

EA you better not be getting my hopes up on this. Seriously if we get an open world free-roam mirrors edge sequel, I'd probably die.

Yes, because listings for widely hoped-for games never appear on legitimate sites near major gaming news events and turn out to be absolutely nothing.

Look, all I'm saying is this stuff does happen all of the time and is far more often than not absolutely nothing. This trying to jump on every minute scrap of information and rumour to get the jump on the competition is one of many things which is wrong with game journalism right now in my eyes. If we get an official announcement of a Mirror's Edge 2 at E3, then it will be news. But this just reeks of latching on to rumour or a possible error for the sake of drumming up some extra web traffic. There is no story here right now.

If this is seriously an Xbox One exclusive, then I will have to do something drastic. I vote we go back in time, grab the EA executive who agreed to the idea, and throw them into a time vortex where they relive nothing but boring Mondays for the rest of their lives.

...yes I'm a bit grumpy this morning, I was up till 3 last night.

For the love of God:
PLEASE LET THIS BE TRUE!

Mirror's Edge was a game that you either loved or hated and I was in the former group, so I'd totally play another one.

I'm in a dilemma; If this isn't true, I'll be convinced that the person who messed up DOES NOT KNOW PAIN. If this is true, I will be extremely pissed that someone agreed to Mirror's Edge 2 being an Xbone exclusive. It's a no-win paradox!

Someone on the TGS podcast totally predicted this, Mirror's edge 2 as a kinect Xbox exclusive
lets see if the other half is true (hopefully it's not)
still not buying it if its on Xbox One, even though I thought the first one was a pretty interesting concept that just needed a bit more work

ME is/was the only progressive first person game in a long time. Would've been much better if you bent your knees when jumping (among many other phoned in thoughtless little non-touches) and police used non-violent take down tactics. Bullets and ME's universe are just so obviously esthetically incompatible but the white upbeat very-dare-I-say-euro esthetic was really refreshing.

ME and Wipeout HD made me wonder for a while if Europe was going to overtake Japan and the US all of a sudden. Probably because those were the only standout titles of this generation. Still wouldn't pick up a ME2 if there isn't a PS3 version. Would still check it out on the PS4 after the PS5 hits though.

Looks like I'll have to update my pros and cons to buying the xbone.

Pros: Halo, Mirror's Edge 2, I like the controller better than the Playstation controller.

Cons: Internet connection required, extra fee for used games, probably still have to pay for Xbox Live, no backwards compatibility, every game I want to play (besides Halo and Mirror's Edge 2) will be playable either on PS4 or PC.

It's actually a tough choice for me, considering that Halo is the series that first got me into gaming and I loved Mirror's Edge. I think I will be switching to a PC or PS4, however.

My thoughts whilst reading the headline: YEEEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!!!! Oh f*** NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!

Please bless us with your knowledge by providing a list of all of these titles which turned out to not happen. Honestly, I'd like to know since it's apparently so common.

I'm curious as to whether this is a sign that EA are hoping to be more console exclusive or that the listings for other platforms just didn't appear yet. They haven't been having the greatest time lately so it wouldn't shock me that they're putting at least a few of their titles on one box only, especially if the DRM capabilities of the Xbone are as bad as they seem.

Mirror's Edge 2? I'd love to play that. Xbone exclusive though? No thanks. The Xbone is the console for the masochistic gimp of a gamer: a leash to wrap around your neck. I'm not going to put up with that just to get some more parkour gameplay, especially when I can build my own damn levels and stuff without leashing myself to a corporation that views me as a large dollar sign with hands as feet.

Yes, please excuse me while I go and recall, from memory, every news article like this citing a mysterious listing of a new game which never came to be on the Gamestop, Amazon or other websites and present them for you here as proof that this is a non-story, rather than you dealing with the actual criticisms of the article.

How about, if you'd like to defend this article you actually deal with the fact that this is nothing more than a single listing on the german version of one website which hasn't been picked up by any other site, nor is it something which has been confirmed as being true by the company who owns the franchise. Please, do explain how an article which reports on something which is at best a rumour and at worst an error, without even saying if they've contacted EA for so much as a statement on this, is at all credible journalism.

Otherwise you can feel free to continue making special pleadings for evidence which is at best tangential to the main thrust of my argument, and which you know it would be next to impossible to produce without significant effort which is simply not worth my time when the article makes a perfectly good case for this not being real news all on its own.

I'm surprised none of you have posted about the whole $130 thing. If this were real and it wasn't some kind of collectors edition would that not be cause for worry. I am expecting a rise in the price of games with the new generation, but if something like that happens (actually if any price rise happens) they can kiss my money goodbye.

I'd be slightly more worried if I had any reason to believe there was any truth to this listing yet.

If Mirror's Edge 2 is in fact being made, I would hope that it's coming to PC, and with Oculus Rift support. I can think of few games more suited to VR.

P.S. Thanks

Every time I hear "xbox one" I think of

Seriously imagine if Sony called the next console the Playstation One, how confusing it would be
I loved the first Mirror's Edge and hope there's a 360 or PC version of it.

Actually there has been a Playstation One:

Ain't it a beauty? It was just a slimmer, prettier and cheaper version of a PSX. EXACTLY LIKE ITS NAME IMPLIED.

Xbox one... Really? That name is stupid beyond measure...

I love Mirror's Edge. But if it's a Xbone exclusive I can wave goodbye to it, I refuse to buy a system that so clearly disrespects the consumer.

Also, $130 dollars, ouch! If that's true and its the case for both consoles, I'll just stick to handhelds and PC. I don't care that dev costs are going up, I'm not fronting my money for a companies poor budget management.

If both the following paragraphs sound really self centered, good. I'm the consumer, they should earn my money, and so far Xbone is doing a pretty poor job of it.

My thoughts exactly. Was one of the first games that came to mind when I found out about the oculus (That and Dark souls).

So in other words, you have no evidence? If you can't recall even one from memory then how do you know that there are so many it's getting your knickers in a twist? It would hardly take 'significant effort' if this is a common occurance.

If you take offense to news sites posting about rumours then why not go and troll all of the other articles that were based on rumours and hearsay. There were plenty of them to go around before the new consoles were launched. And not confirming things isn't exactly uncommon in the games industry. Hell, EA still won't confirm or deny that SimCity doesn't actually need to be online even though there is evidence out there to the contrary. That doesn't devalue those claims.

I really liked ME1, guess for the same reason everyone loved it.

Although a few problems i see. First off, i haved the strong suspicion that the shooting aspect will be a much bigger part of the game. Call me a pessimist, but you can't deny they love them shooters.

And second, if this is Xbone exclusive someone should get his ass fired. How stupid can you be to miss a fuckton of sales.

SQUEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE

...Ahem. I'm sorry. I don't know what came over me there.

EA might not be the most PC-friendly company out there, but they do tend to sell all of their shit on Origin. And I'd take Origin a hundred times over a fucking console.

BRING IT EA, AND I WILL BUY IT FULL PRICE!

Well, looks like I'm getting a Xbone, if this turns out to be true.

Mirror's Edge Kinect? That sounds incredibly dangerous. Like, you might as well just go outside and Parkour dangerous.
