Auto Assault Closing Down

image

NCsoft has announced that it will be shutting down the Auto Assault MMOG at the end of August.

As of midnight on August 31, the company will be terminating the service completely. All billing will be halted, and any players who have purchased time via multi-month billing or time cards that extend past the termination date will have their money refunded.

Speaking to The Escapist's sister site, the WarCry Network, NCsoft Director of Public Relations David Swofford said, "After awhile it gets to the point where the return we're getting on what we're putting into it is just not matching up. We just didn't have that many people in the service."

While Auto Assault developer NetDevil did elect to operate its space-based MMOG itself after it failed to take hold with the original publishers, Swofford could not comment on the possibility of the Auto Assault IP being sold back to NetDevil. However, Auto Assault Associate Producer Andrew Wagner said, "At this time, there are no plans for the service to be run by another service provider," and also indicated that the server software was unlikely to be released.

More information regarding the shutdown will be posted at the official Auto Assault website as it becomes available.

Blimey that was quick. How long has it been out?

April 11, 2006 was when it was released. So it survived a year.
