Unreal Tournament 3 Demo Coming in Mid-October

image

Epic Games has announced that the Unreal Tournament 3 beta demo is close to release, and should be available to gamers later this month.

In a post on the official Unreal Tournament 3 forum, company vice president Mark Rein wrote, "Just wanted to give you a heads up that we're getting pretty close to releasing the Unreal Tournament 3 Beta Demo for Windows. The Beta Demo will allow instant action play against bots as well as online multiplayer. The purpose of the Beta Demo is to test the game on a large variety of hardware configurations and get gameplay feedback from the community. The development team feels they're pretty close to being ready to release this so it could come out this week but for safety sake I'd say it should be out within two weeks."

FilePlanet has also created a reserve site for the demo, which will allow subscribers to claim a spot in the download queue ahead of the demo's actual release.

Unreal Tournament 3 is actually the fourth installment in the series, following Unreal Tournament, UT2003 and UT2004, but is named for its use of the third-generation of the Unreal Engine. The PC version of the game is scheduled for a November launch, but Midway Games recently announced a delay in the PlayStation 3 release, which has now been pushed back to the first quarter of 2008.

Thats my problem I loved UT99 and 03 and beyond have sucked like hell.... sicne they merged UC and UT for UT3 I don't have much hope for it being a good product...

I'm inclined to say the biggest challenge facing the UT series is that incremental technology changes without any significant upgrades in gameplay won't sell many games, but then I look over at the EA Sports games...

I won't be pleased with this game engine until I see things run fine on a 6800. Till then, don't go touting it as the big next-gen.
I have great respect for UT, but I'd still like to hear whether this one is a lot of fun or not.
