Paperboy Posts: 45 Joined: 18 Sep 2007 | SP as in Single Player? No, IMO the game is much better than GW and provides a much higher customization (From what I could tell). My friends in the BETA absolutely love the game, and said its what you would want out of a Diablo successor. Guild Wars though was a huge disappointment to me after the very first serious. It was just a simple rehash that didn't keep my attention. Also the horrible attempt at marketing it as a MMO (and moronic people actually BELIEVING it) really bothered me also. Guild Wars was basically an un-innovative version of Diablo 2 with big 3D chatrooms you could walk in. Thats it. |

Mmm I might try a demo then, GW was not even a rehash D2 was fun GW is like D2 only filtered 2 or 3 times down into a MMO mess. |

This game was made by Flagship studio's who were origionally the diablo team for Blizzard before they sold blizzard to vevindi, so I had high hopes that this game would be great. Getting that out of the way with, it was anything but great. It was a load of crap were the complete point of the game is to do every single quest keeping in mid that if you freeze up, or the game crashes, which it's still doing way to many times for a game that releases in 10 days, that you must start the level all over again, because there is NO way to move on to do anything if you don't. Now instead of sticking with what made diablo great, One Sets, 2 runes, 3 the fact that you could level up rather quickly and go from 1 to 70 in about an 8 hour period. Now you can go from 1-5 in an 8 hour period, they took a different road then most games, why make the later levels take forever, why not make them all that way! Hurry grinding. And now unlike diablo where monsters changed in the acts, you fighting the SAME damned things over, and over, and over, and over, and over again...... It becomes MMOtastic after a few minutes. By the time you hit level 10 you want to calm down and back away from your gate of hell realising that it's mearly ownly WoW meets House of the Dead. |

grinding and MMO like is auto fill for me, thus why I avoid Oblivion and other games that give the "appearance" of fun..... I'll keepmy ears open for reviews and stuff but I wont hold my breath, speaking of action rpgs the whitcher is coming out soon :X |

It looks cool and I put a lot of faith in the old Diablo developers, but I'm concerned with the focus on the MMOG aspect. How solid is the single-player campaign? How much has been sacrificed in order to maximize the multiplayer component? Am I going to get a real game out of this, or am I looking at another Quake 3 bonejob? The temptation to just leap in is strong (I like the looks of that collector's edition, I'm a total sucker for that stuff) but I think I'm going to have to wait for reviews and trustworthy opinions. |

Answer: Alot, but it works better than you would think.
the FPS part while a little wonky (its an MMO, what did you expect) but the slashing and spell casting more than make up for it.
I preordered to collectors edition for HGL and I can say after hours and hours of play I have never felt like I was grinding in an MMO. It's a bit of a leap of faith, but with so much dev support even if its not perfect on release you can bet it will be 150% perfect after some post-release work has been done on it. They are even re-opening the beta for one week on the release so those who have ordered the game, but are waiting to receive it can start playing immediately! This shows me that they really care about the people playing their game. |

I would wait till more reviewers review it, its on the cusp of suckage and frankly I just cant spend money on stupid games anymore I refuse to keep the status quo going. |

Hellgate: London Goes Gold, Single-Player Demo On The Way
Flagship Studios and Electronic Arts have announced that Hellgate: London has gone gold, with a single-player demo expected to be released on Friday.
The demo will allow players to choose from two of the game's six character classes: The Blademaster, who excels at melee combat, or the Marksman, a ranged specialist. A handful of storyline and side quests will be available as the player fights his way through hordes of demos surrounding Holborn Station in London.
"This has been an amazing journey for us and we couldn't be more proud of what we've accomplished," said Bill Roper, CEO of Flagship Studios. "We're anxious to get Hellgate: London into gamers' hands and we can't wait to play right along with them."
Hellgate: London is an action-RPG that makes use of dynamically-generated levels, items, creatures and events to enhance replayability, and also offers a strong online multiplayer component allowing players to fight the demonic forces of evil in groups. Unlike similar games, Hellgate: London multiplayer will behave more like an MMOG and make extensive use of instanced encounters. Although basic multiplayer access will be free, Flagship Studios will also be offering a monthly fee-based tier which will give users ongoing content updates including new monsters, items, dungeons and more.
Hellgate: London is being released for the PC on October 31.
