Will Wright Says Spore in Six Months

image

Will Wright says Spore, his ambitious life simulator, is "fully playable" and should be released in about six months.

Speaking in an interview on BBC Radio 5, Wright said, "We have the game fully playable at this point, and it's in final testing," adding, "We've had to do a lot of testing to make sure that the game is accessible by a wide group of people. I want the people who have played The Sims to be able to play Spore - I don't want it to be something just hardcore gamers play."

In development since 2000, Spore will simulate the development and evolution of a species from the earliest cellular level all the way to the establishment of a space-faring civilization, played out over various phases: Cellular, creature, tribal, civilization and space. The game is currently in development for the PC, with limited single-phase versions being made for the Nintendo DS and mobile phones.

I say the release date is procedurally generated...and could change at random.

Much as I want to believe it, I don't trust release dates that are more than a month away.

I'd like to argue that Will's probably waiting for humans to evolve just to make certain that the game's accurate enough.
Sheesh, six more months? Are they trying to make certain that the game is playable by retarded monkeys? It seems to be rapidly turning into vapor.
Well, maybe not. He's got actual funding and enough clout that his owners won't be calling the local asylum anytime soon. But that would be funny though... Will Wright in a strait jacket screaming "Spore! Spore! I have to finish it!" while being carried off by some burly looking orderlies, who are going to force feed him his medicine.

April, 2008. That's the same date he's been giving for months, isn't it? Why is everyone acting as though it's slipped?
