New Ghostbusters Games in the Works

Vivendi and Sony have confirmed that the original movie cast will reunite for a new Ghostbusters videogame, currently scheduled for released in fall of 2008.

Dan Aykroyd, Bill Murray, Harold Ramis and Ernie Hudson will all be lending their voices and likenesses to the game, along with some supporting cast members from the film. Increasing the hope for a "real" Ghostbusters experience, Aykroyd and Ramis will be writing the story for the game, which will be set in the early '90s after the events of Ghostbusters 2. The company anticipates the release being the first in a series of Ghostbuster games.

"We noticed we did well on Scarface and were alert for new opportunities to turn iconic film products into games in a way that is a new manifestation of the franchise," said Bruce Hack, CEO at Vivendi Games. "Ghostbusters is unquestionably among the small number of movies in that class." Scarface, Vivendi's previous movie-game effort, was a success for the company, selling more than 2.5 million units and generating over $125 million in revenues. A sequel is currently in the works.

Released in 1984, Ghostbusters told the tale of three paranormal researchers who establish a business to track and catch renegade spirits. The movie was a huge success, becoming the highest-grossing movie of the year at over $240 million in the U.S. alone. In 2006, the American Film Institute ranked it at 28 in its list of 100 all-time best comedies.

Here's a video, which is very impressive.

Unfortunately, the developer is Terminal Reality, most recently known for their work on the completely lackluster BloodRayne series. Hopefully they do a lot better with this one. It at least looks like it has a high budget and a lot of potential at this point.

Lets hope it turns out better than the Last 2 Ghostbusters games.
