Activision has announced that new downloadable content is in the works for the award-winning Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare FPS.

The new content, for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, will "thrust gamers into a hot zone of added combat across a variety of intense multiplayer locales," the company said in a statement. The new content is slated for release in spring 2008, over Xbox Live and the PlayStation Network.

"We've demonstrated our commitment to delivering the best multiplayer experience in Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and that continues with our plans for new downloadable content," said Robert Bowling, community manager at Call of Duty 4 developer Infinity Ward. "We're excited about the new maps, and the added gameplay variety, and we can't wait to wrap things up and get online with everyone."

Released in November, Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare has sold more than seven million units worldwide, and was the number one title for worldwide unit sales in 2007, according to Activision. The game has received numerous accolades, including ten nominations for Academy of Interactive Arts and Sciences awards. More information is available at www.charlieoscardelta.com.

This looks to be really promising I think. CoD4 could use this, it's perfect timing. Just when I was thinking I'm used to all the multiplayer maps etc. No doubt Microsoft (at least) will be planning a small fee (8.99 in my past experience) for this ... which isn't helpful. But oh well, I'll still get this anyway. Hopefully this content will come soon as well, as I say Spring end at the end of February ... heh.

A couple of friends and fond of CoD4 ... so I guess it'll be the usual "omg you bought the expansion thing".

suppose the question is will the same things come to the pc version?

Will this come out before or after they release the patch that fixes the goddamn sniper rifles?

You know, the one IW has been promising for about 2 months now?

Hopefully they'll make some real maps instead of using cut-outs from Campaign

Any map additions will be good additions. I've died in just about every square inch of the other ones.
