Glu Mobile has unveiled a deal with DreamWorks Animation to develop and publish a mobile game version of Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa.
Glu Mobile is preparing the game to launch in October, in conjunction with the film's U.S. premiere, set for November 7. Glu Mobile has previously released titles licensed from Atari, Hasbro, Microsoft, PopCap and others, including mobile versions of Marc Ecko's Getting Up, Sonic the Hedgehog, Project Gotham Racing Mobile, Lemmings, Monopoly, Ancient Empires and numerous others.
"Madagascar was an enormous success and created a broad fan base around the world," said Glu Mobile Senior Vice President Jill Braff. "We're very pleased to announce this license with DreamWorks Animation to bring the Madagascar brand and its well-loved characters to mobile subscribers worldwide. Our production team is working closely with the DreamWorks team to create a vibrant and entertaining game that contains elements of the movie but has a storyline and game mission unique to itself."
Released in 2005, the animated film Madagascar starred Ben Stiller, Chris Rock, David Schwimmer and Jada Pinkett Smith as four New York zoo animals who find themselves accidentally stranded on Madagascar and caught up in a conflict between a free-spirited lemur colony and a pack of ravenous fossa.
