The Rock Band release "Saints of Los Angeles" by Motley Crue outsold its iTunes counterpart five to one.
A Reuters report revealed that 80s rock gods Motley Crue's new single "Saints of Los Angeles," which was released only in digital formats for Rock Band and on online services, was downloaded 47,000 times in its first week on the Rock Band music store.
Online sales from music stores such as Amazon and iTunes tallied up to little more than 10,000 sales.
"We do research on every artist we have, and the research said that the people who bought Motley Crue music and tickets play Rock Band and video games ... [so] it was our inclination to go there," explained Tenth Street Chief Executive Officer Allen Kovac. "As marketers, it's our job to find the audience. If our audience tells us they're sitting at Xbox and PlayStation, that's our job to do that."
Kovac continued, "The resurgence of rock has happened because of Rock Band and Guitar Hero. And the reason is because of the interaction with the audience. The more music marketing people look at interaction with the audience as opposed to only radio or a video, the more lasting the experience will be and the longer the artists' career will be."

| This phenomenon can be explained by the fact that while very few of us actually want to listen to Motley Crue, most of us have dreamt of being in Motley Crue...circa 1982. |

Nice birthday, Ten.
Truth, mind. I'd rather strum/'sing'/beat along to their songs rather than actually sit there and listen to them. After all, the C&C songs on Rock Band are amongst my most-played, but I don't usually listen to them outside of the game. |
| Nobody listens to Motley Crue anymore. Now playing Motley Crue, that's totally different. Still waiting when other older bands catch on and start jumping on the bandwagon.
Speaking of which, why the hell is there no Bruce Springsteen on Rock Band or Guitar Hero? Doesn't Van Sant do musical recommendations for one of those? |
| Ouch, that would suck for the artists... "Dude, your song sucks to listen to, but playing it is awesome." |
| I want Bastard. Or Primal Scream. That'd be sweet.
Course, I'd also like to FUCKING GET THE DAMN GAME DOWN HERE! |
| This article is fine...oh except the bit about 'Rock Gods' and Motley Crue... |
| Now thats hardly fair. They were big enough for the drummer to bag the hottest woman on Earth, and most likely the surrounding planetary system. |

Pamela Anderson? Really? Cos let's remember, Ellen Page also lives on Planet Earth. |
| No, Pamela Anderson and Heather Locklear. And I'm of the opinion that two 5's do indeed equal a 10. |

Well going with that logic, five 2's, or even ten 1's also equal a ten. However, I wouldn't call such a man a stud. 'Desperate' would probably be a more appropriate word... |
| What I meant was he married them both while they were the hottest things that weren't outlawed by the U.N. That ain't the case today, though. |
