Sega Sponsors First Sonic Convention

Following the fanfare Sega received after celebrating Sonic's 15th anniversary, the developer is hosting the first conference dedicated to its moneymaking hedgehog.

Sega of Europe is partnering with Sonic fan sites Sonic Stadium and Sonic Wrecks to host the first ever Sonic fan convention in London on August 9th.

Hosted at the Covent Garden Dragon Hall Trust, Summer of Sonic is scheduled to have contests, tournaments, special guest speakers, fan art galleries and playable previews of Sonic Chronicles, all prepared to highlight Sonic's illustrious history.

Parties interested in attending must register at the Summer of Sonic site. Other than the time spent registering online, the convention will be free of charge for anyone willing and able to attend.

So, a convention for Sonic? Isn't that like, having a Bar Mitzvah for a man in a coma and dying of lung cancer while being divorced and fired from his job? Perhaps, instead, we should be throwing Sega an intervention.
