Of course you would like to see GTA on the Wii (depending on which GTA, 4 or a new one?) you just want to make yourself feel better about your stupid white trash box! GOD I HATE YOU REGGIE! (I'm so sorry, really I am, that was probably a bit too far (the white trash box not the hate reggie part) i just absolutely hate Reggie but then again who doesn't?) |

In fact the hardware limitations would mean that a Wii GTA would very likely be exclusive - In which case everyone's a winner. Wii hate is so 2007. |

They risk losing their image in the wider world, and I thought Nintendo kinda abandoned their fanbase in favor of the larger, and ergo more profitable, casual market. |

They allowed No More Heroes, and I doubt this would be worse. User was banned for: Poll: What is your opinion on the Metal Gear Solid storylines?. (Permanent) |

Tell a concerned parent about you play No More Heroes and they will say they havn't heard the Stranglers in a long time. Tell them you play Grand Theft Auto and they'll run away screaming. Stompy has a point here, Nintendo have set themselves up as the friendly console (It will be kiddie console soon, you watch) and in one fell swoop they could estroy that. |

One game cannot taint a companies image - it takes at least 10. The thing has games with titles like Big Willy Unleashed and Bully (and I'm pretty sure a lot of parents remember Bully, even if they don't remember the morals it taught us, such as its okay to be gay and don't pick on the nerds)- that hasn't hurt them so far. I think JaguarWong is right, either a port of any of the PS2 GTA's or an exclusive one with that engine would be fine. I'd buy it. |

Ah, I love console doomsayers. What, you think every Wii owner in the world will abandon the console because of GTA IV? The idea that only kids own Wiis is retarded. With such a huge number of consoles sold, a very large part of the market has to be teenagers or older (more likely the last). Just because some people don't think Nintendo is EPIC enough to handle their extremely mature games featuring 3 seconds of pixelated boobs, that doesn't mean the console cannot and will not have mature games. No More Heroes? Madworld? Jesus christ, MANHUNT? Maybe the most extreme game since Postal? |

No, I think GTA has a reputation and if people see GTA next to the Wii they plan on buying for their child it may well cause them to change their mind. I'm not saying people will throw away their Wii or will stop buying Wii products if they see a GTA title, what I was saying is that it will destroy the image Nintendo have created. Manhunt, Madworld and No more heroes don't destroy this image because they are fairly unknown games. There is not much press about the dangers of No More heroes and Madworld and barely anymore for Manhunt but some still remains for GTA and it will come back in the future. Especially if some FOX guy pots two and two together and realises that the Queen of England could be playing a game where you kill hookers. |

You may have a point with the brand of GTA being stigmatized enough to provoke a reaction. My guess however, is that it will be largely ignored. If something like Manhunt for Wii can be almost completely ignored, chances are GTA will not stir up much trouble. The only reason GTA is such a hot potato right now is because it's contemporary and popular. By the time it's out for the Wii, the scaremongers will have moved on to a new target. Anyway, Nintendo never deliberatly marketed the Wii as a kiddie console despite what people claim. It was marketed as a console for the casual and/or older (perhaps family-oriented) player as well as trying to pick up the untapped market of gamers who'd given up the interest with age but had fond memories of old Mario games and such. The kids just like the shiny colors and third party companies are keeping the idea alive by only releasing kids' movie tie-ins and cheaply ported shovelware. Besides, what kid would want to play a console that is viewed as kid-friendly? We all know that all the brats are on Xbox Live, because it's "cooler". |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 3760 Joined: 18 Dec 2007 | Your right, the Wii never was a Kiddy console but with the large amount of minigame games that are coming out it is becoming that way. Atleast in my view. Not like theres anything wrong with Kiddy games, De Blob looks fucking awesome. |
On the Record Posts: 6101 Joined: 25 Jan 2008 | The Wii's capabilities are severely underrated. Yes the Miis make an appearance in most everything and give this aura of crapdom, but the Wii is more powerful than the PS2, so in theory, anything the PS2 did the Wii can. So what if GTA-Wii only looks as good as San Andreas or Vice City, that was damn high-end in its day, and for the Wii, that would still be above the normal game graphical level. So as long as they keep from blowing all the Wii's power on touch ups to the graphics and useless gimmicks (fuck I'll kill them if the Wiimote MUST be the wheel, if I can't use the DPad or classic controller I ain't driving) then it could be good. Also, that DS GTA is already a fuckup. Why are they going for a full-3D, the DS can't handle that, and a classic GTA style game would have not only worked better on the DS, but damn I miss the top-down car mayhem. |

So, Metroid, COD 4, Dementium & Moon arent 3D ? Awesome Im going to find out what the meaning of 3D has been changed to. Be right back. Chinatown wars was great on the DS, Vice City is a good enough game to play way more than once (In fact I have) & damn Id love to play it on the wii. Bear in mind graphically GTAIV is actually crap. It could be scaled back to cellshaded & the game would play as it plays right now. Needless graphical additions add nothing to the game & frankly the physics are crap, so they an be dropped. |

Reggie Fils-Aime Would "Love To See" GTA On Wii
It may not seem like a great fit for Nintendo's traditional customer base, but Nintendo of America President Reggie Fils-Aime says he'd "love to see" Grand Theft Auto on the Wii.
In an MTV Multiplayer interview following the announcement of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the Nintendo DS, Fils-Aime said Nintendo has a "long-term relationship with Take-Two," and claimed the Chinatown Wars project was one the development team at Rockstar wanted to take on. While he didn't elaborate on details, saying they would be better explained by Rockstar, he did say he was "thrilled to have it on the platform."
When asked about the gender ratio on the DS, which enjoys a large number of female gamers who aren't typically Grand Theft Auto fans, Fils-Aime said, "Right now [there is a] 20 million installed base in the U.S. 52 percent are male. That's over a ten million installed base to sell a GTA title into. We expect the title to sell phenomenally well. And that's why we're thrilled to have it come."
He also dismissed concerns about resistance among high-level Nintendo executives to a Grand Theft Auto title on the company's systems, which have typically been viewed as more family friendly than the Xbox and PlayStation systems. "I've had a very good relationship with the folks at Take-Two, continue to have a good relationship," he said. "And so in our view we want just the best content coming on our platforms. Period."
"You know, a GTA on the Wii is all based on what Rockstar and Take-Two want to do," he continued. "And again, from our standpoint, if they build a bottoms-up game that takes advantage of what we do well, I'd love to see it on the platform."
