Xbox Developer Killed In Murder-Suicide

So, are videogames going to be blamed for this too?

This is really sad. So this prick points a gun at her and no one ever thought to force him to turn it in while he had a restraining order? I'm all about citizens owning firearms, I don't personally, but it's a choice we should have. However, if someone brandishes it against someone, has a call record of 30 over 2 days and has a restraining order, maybe, JUST FUCKING MAYBE, the cops should have taken it from him or thrown his ass in prison if he wouldn't relinquish it.

This could have been avoided, I think. It's a shame such a young woman had to have this happen. I hope her husband is suffering in hell like he deserves.

What The Fuck

Aries_Split:
If she had a plasma pistol, this would have NEVER fucking happened.

Joking, Joking.

Farewell Melissa Batten. May you find eternal peace by God's hand. Unless you were muslim. Then Alah's hand.
Or possibly buddhist. Find Nirvana.
Or maybe athiest. May your corpse serve the earth well.
Unless you felt like cremation...

Dude what's your problem.

Best guess? He doesn't know how to handle death. So he tried to be funny in a time and place that was totally inappropriate.

Rest in Peace, Melissa.

Condolences to the deceased of course. But...I can't resist commenting on this aspect of death... Anyway, why are anger, sadness etc. the only reactions a person can have towards death? I guess, it -does- depend on the person, but, why having lived a presumably good life, is there only to be this...depressive atmosphere?

Granted, this wasn't an old woman who'd lived her life and had died in her bed. And of course all the more awful because of the circumstances. But, who exactly is helped by bemoaning of how unfair everything is, or how they hope the guy who did it is rotting in hell or some such sentiment to that effect. Given that both are dead, and unlikely to care what any of us think on the matter...

I just think that cracking jokes at something like murder of innocent people is not the best way to react.

A slightly more subtle joke is "socially acceptable" - Aries' doesn't actually have any ill-will towards Melissa (at least, he shouldn't) but the joke makes it seem like he does since when he offers condolences, it also seemed like a joke - which makes it look like he thinks that death is funny - if you are gonna make a joke, don't make it seem like you are happy that the person died or anything like that.

(Honestly I feel that this news is a little "out of place" here anyway, as you can see a lot of people are a little shocked.)

Another day, another senseless death... When will the people of America ever realise that gun sales should be banned so that tragedies like this can be avoided?

RIP Melissa, may there be games and broadband for thee wherever you are headed.

*sigh*

So instead of GTA, we're blaming guns?

Agreed this death is senseless, but her husband was a nut-job, and he could've just as easily used a kitchen knife.

When I die, no matter how tragic the circumstances, I'd rather those that knew me partied down and had a good time in my memory, than moped about in a depressive, solumn funk. Live and laugh, people; life is harsh enough as it is without bringing people down from beyond the grave.

This, however, comes closest to 'sickening behavior' in my book. Let's use this death to further agendas!

I agree, this is not the time or the place for either the gun-ban nuts or the guns-yay nuts to preach. This is a terrible, senseless death, and can be blamed on one thing only: the victim's psycho husband (may he suffer a painful mischief for his crimes).

36 is just too damned young to die.

Here, here. Im for that.

Thats exactly what I thought. Very sad.

Well that sure is sad. Only 36, why she had hardly even got to live. Such a shame.

Banning gun sales isn't the solution, chances are he bought the gun ilegaly. And, if gun sales were banned everyone will just get knives.

Restricting access to weapons will make it less likly that someone will use them, compare the gun-murder statistics between the US and the UK, US (where gun ownership is legal) has roughly 11,000 a year if I remember the statistic from 'Bowling for Colombine' while here in the UK (where you can't buy guns) we have about 99.

I just felt the need to point out the difference between having a gun and shooting someone and not having a gun and not shooting them.

Guys, seriously, not the place for a gun/anti-gun argument. Neither side will convince the other, ever, and it shows disrespect for the topic, IMO.

When guns are outlawed only outlaws will have guns.
