I have a question. Do the badges get taken away if you draw Moderator attention, or are they fixed? because if so, I should have the Trinity and Morpheus badges, because I made it 2799 posts before getting banned.

I just turned on the recurring awards today, which check your status as of the moment they run. To be fair, I'm going to do a one-time award to accounts that met the requirements at one point but do not now, but it's going to take a bit of work so it probably won't happen for a few days.

I have a suggestion: maybe the Matrix badges should be awarded for a 1K/5K/etc. streak occurring at *any* point, and eliminating the need to make it from first post to those milestones? I'm thinking that if someone made it to Trinity and then got banned before they got to Morpheous, they might decide to just say 'whatever--I'll never get the badge so why care about getting banned now' turning the badges--specifically the inability to achieve them--into a perverse incentive to actually act badly.

It also might reduce the incentive for people to make new accounts: if someone gets banned only 100 posts in, well, they might as well delete that account and start over.

It sounds like a good idea to me, but alas, I'm not in charge of the policy.

Yeah--I also imagine it would be much more difficult to program the system to recognize an anytime streak than only from-the-beginning streaks.

Yes, yes, that's a good idea. It would be very annoying knowing that you will never get Morpheus's bald-shiney-awesomeness the whole time you're on the escapist.

Okay, I'll stop bitching.

Probably been asked but will we, any time soon, see a new rank for people with more than 2,000 posts instead of all of them being called "Gonzo"? Not that I'll hit that anytime soon though.

I know this is a bit of thread necromancy, but I'm still curious if there will be any manually awarded badges (to use my example from earlier, "thought provoking thread of the week.")

Yahtzee has Internet Celeb apparantly. Get 100 friends.

And if you get probed/banned at any time in your Escapist history, you're automatically screwed at earning any of the Matrix badges (like if you got probed at 79 posts, you can't get Trinity, Morephus (GOD DAMNIT I WANT), or Neo)/

Is there a time limit from the moment you join till you get your first badge?

I'm rather proud of my Regular badge, it's the only symbol of status I have left over those new generation super posters. I wouldn't mind getting the Maven and 100 friends badge too.

Pretty cool, gives me an incentive to keep active rather than simply lurk in the shadows. I like it.

I like the badge idea as well, when is the point system going to make a debut though?

As much as I support the "report and move on" approach to many threads now-a-days, making a badge for reporting people would cause a surge in undeserved reports, leading to people being reported for little or no reason whatsoever by people just trying to get the badge.

The reward for reporting should be the knowlage that you're improving the quality of dicussion among the community, one click at a time.

The problem with that is reporting is anonymous. Entirely so. Also the term "Snitch" is pejorative which is liable to discourage people from doing so.
