Ohhhhhhh! Okay, I see it now. I think the blue background threw me off. Thanks!

Also, there are never going to be any badges to encourage trolling or getting into fights with trolls. Report the posts and ignore the content, and the moderators will take care of the rest - that's why they're here.

you have on in my mind...and my heart...
Ok, that was a little strange.

Still, I would like to know your (mods) thoughts on a good sumaritan type badge...because I'm nosy like that

This will currupt the concept of "friend."
I suspect so, at least.

Well, that assumes that the rest of the internet hasn't already. Think of it more like 'favorite posters'. The badges are set up such that you're encouraged to add a few friends of your own, but not that many, to get you familiar with the system. More importantly, it gives a reason to 'get added', which (theoretically) involves posting things that others find interesting. Or, I suppose, socializing enough to convince people to trade adds with you - that's still a positive type of interaction though.

Most importantly, it gets more people to use the flagging, even for a somewhat artificial reason. We want to make that section do more, and we need more people to use it in order to do make that happen.

Many of the badges are intended to do things like this. The thread replies/views ones are to encourage people to come up with interesting topics that encourage discussion. The unique thread/forum count ones are to encourage people to explore a bit more (and not just post in ZP threads, or on Off-Topic, for example). The PM ones are to both make people realize the system is there and to encourage them to read their PMs.

It's relatively easy to ban people, lock threads, remove posts, and do other kinds of 'negative reinforcement' to discourage problems. The badges are our attempt to do 'positive reinforcement' and recognize the people who make the site a better place.

There already is one similar. It's from our original list, but we aren't happy with the art yet, so it won't go live until we are :P

Would there happen to be a badge for those who are artists?

Hm. I wonder which ones I have.

Edit: Well, that's pretty neat. Make a game out of posting to keep people sticking around. Good plan!

No, he didn't get banned for what he was doing--that's the point: just because someone hasn't gotten banned doesn't mean they're a good forum dweller. Like he said, he wants a badge for "toadies and teachers-pets," in other words, people who don't get banned but not because they're well-behaved, but because they're a bunch of suck-ups.

j-e-f-f-e-r-s might not be a troll, but he's the kind of person where if you disagree with him he just stops having a substantive discussion with you and then gets snarky and vindictive. Like he said, he's basically a toadie and a teacher's pet. I don't know why he thinks that's actually a *good* thing to be, or why he can't see the difference between that and someone who is actually well-behaved.

As for the significance of getting banned/probation, there really isn't any anymore. I was on here for 14 months before my first ban...by wilsoncrazybed...less than two weeks after I responded to a post of his with criticism.

So I guess in my case it wasn't so much an issue of arbitrary behavior as much as behavior lacking in integrity.

Or...perhaps, he was just being humorous

You're missing a few badges..."My first ban" "Ten bans, unpopular" "Perma-ban, why are you still signed in?"

Possibly, but, based on my prior dealings with him, I don't think so.

Prior dealings? We've had one argument in a previous thread. An argument where you went overboard, and the mods called you on it. You make it sound like we have some gang war going on, when we don't. I have no idea why you're so wound up about one incident, but my advice is to get over it. I already have.

And I was being humorous, actually.

No, the mod--singular--was either arbitrary or pissed that I disagreed with a shitty article he wrote.

I really like this idea so people can see what they've achieved in the forum other then knowing more about a game then another person. Also glad the staff didn't make a "100/500/1000/10000 post" badge..else there'd be spam all over the place :)

G'job staffers and kudos.

I'm not going to make the mistake of getting drawn into this any more. This is a topic about badges. Anything I post here in future will be badge related.

The nail is the body of the satellite and the wire is the panels on the side. Once you see it, you'll always see it as a satellite.

You mean it's not a sailboat?

In all seriousness, I can see it if I try really hard, but if I just look at it it goes back to being a nail with a black stripe behind it. I think the problem is that the two panels don't look like two panels--they look like one continuous 'thing'

Is there some kind of condition for the badges to appear? I think I should have a couple, but they don't appear on my profile. Is there anything that the original badge post did not mention, or just something I missed?

Was that aimed at me or the ban fodder one? cuz it should be aimed at the ba fodder one, seeing as the mods and denounced any possibility of badges for being banned or spamming and why.

You were banned for making people feel less welcome. Shall I refresh your memory?

Thanks for disagreeing with me with absolutely no reasonable objections to what I am saying, j-e-f-f-e-r-s. We are all so much richer for you participation.

You mean a fuck-up who couldn't keep his dick in his pants?

Like I said, a fuck-up who couldn't keep his dick in his pants. Great--some moron married you. That's not an excuse to involve some innocent child in your excuse for a life.

Same to you, sweet tits, for reporting "You mean a fuck-up who couldn't keep his dick in his pants?" but not "Pray go amputate your genitals before you do..."

Also, mod sass... See ya.

Edit: Please don't derail this thread any further. Thanks.

I think its a cool idea, i don't think I'll get that many, but getting the Badge awarded message makes me feel all warm inside, like when i got the Little rocket man achievement in HL2 Ep 2 (Liverpool 0)

I'll admit I'm a total badge whore, albeit not here. I've spent money on GamersGate buying Paradox games so I could get more badges on their forums for owning lots of games.

Then again, the more I get to know this forum (I'm a GameFAQs refugee) the more I'll want those "shiny, candylike buttons" (points to anyone who gets the reference.)

So will we eventually be able to select which badges show under our names?
