Get your facts right. No Australian drinks that shit, we export it to you poor bastards. As from games being more popular... well... lets just say I've found young foreign girls (mostly German backpackers) to be VERY friendly. I haven't used friendly Mr. Five fingers for quite some time. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 4297 Joined: 20 Dec 2007 | Now, these stats are a little broken, I mean, there are websites out there like youtube that have terabytes of porn on it, once they find that site, they bookmark it and no longer search the word "porn" into google. Porn is also a vague term, if they wanna get in-depth they'll have to look up phrases like ******************************************* and *******. They should look at traffic ratings of certain sites instead of what people search. |

We need to keep updating ourselves on release dates, because they keep magically moving around for us... and make sure we find AU information. Edit: Oh, on the topic of alcoholic beverages... I'll drink nothing but Strongbow Cider, so don't group me with the Beer-drinkers. |

Sure it may be what you want, but typing games is not going to give you any actual results of use. Maybe a compilation of the number of searches of a variety of relevant terms for the general headings of 'games' or 'porn' would work better. Brilliantly written article though with all the terrible puns and such; I admit a snigger at the solid snake line even after hearing similar jokes for a while now. Nobody drinks Fosters in Australia anyway. The stuff brewed on license in the UK tastes better then Australian Fosters even. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 96 Joined: 25 Aug 2008 | The selling of porn movies is illegal in all states in Australia with the exception of Canberra, the capital territory (so it's not really a state anyway). This does limit the interest the country has in porn, for the most part, as it's not on display. Most stores that sell sex toys and the like have discrete store fronts with limited sexual displays. If you want to enter such a store, you generally have to do so by going past a barrier that stops people looking into the store from the street. Limit the exposure, limit the demand. If you want to look at porn you use the internet (in which case you're going to use sites that your friends have already recommended to you) or just purchase a plastic wrapped porn mag. And Fosters is a beer we wouldn't pour out for our dog. |

Really? I didn't know that first bit... I swear to god we had this old civic video that had porn movies at children's eye level... As for Canberra: Politics, Fireworks, Club X (its just a very noticeable landmark) and light Drugs (outside of Nimbin) are the only reasons I'd visit the capital. :) Honestly, your right on the money with how interest in porn is limited with it not been on display. I'm the bloody target market and I'm not all that interned in the Adult Book Exxxchange near my work... EDIT:
What this man said. I vote Finland as the number one. |

Paperboy Posts: 41 Joined: 27 Feb 2008 | I work at Dan Murphy's in Australia which are the largest liquor suppliers in the country and the store I work in is the number 1 sales store in the whole of Australia. And in our beer aisles we stock two cases of Fosters. We restock it every 6 months or so. One product restocked with 2 cases every 6 months, haha. I think that speaks volumes about what Aussies think of Fosters. And no one types "porn" into goggle. Everyone I know just goes to a YouTube type site if they want porn. Tho, to be honest I wonder what type of person is simply typing in "game" into goggle. Like..really.. |

China and India both each have about 4 times the population of USofA. I reckon vatican city would be pretty high on porn searches because they're celibate. |

You're talking out your arse mate. I see porn movies being sold out of the newsagent at the train station. Yes, thats right. Porn movies being sold, in broad dayl;ight, in one of the most high traffic areas in the city, in Australia. I mean fuck, prostitution is legal in NSW - heard of Kings Cross? No joke, as a 16 year old kid, one of those girls actually asked me if I was looking for a good time (I was there to see the new Griffin Theatre production). I used to be as you friend. I have seen the light. Sometimes, man needs a little Carlton. Also, porn. 'cause, team sports are great and all, but every now and then it doesn't hurt to play a round of golf. |

Huh? Porn is illegal to be sold in every state... the only legal places to sell porn in NT and ACT. Of course, enforcing of the law is pretty lax, so I wouldn't be surprised by what you saw. Oh, and here's some evidence:
Oh, as for the article, I'd say that the parameters are way too wide. Who searches for porn when you should be searching for *******, *************** and *****. What was the score games: 10, porn:6 ? |

"Games" More Popular Than "Porn" in Australia
The long-standing mystery surrounding the Australian government's intolerant attitude toward videogames has just been made a little clearer: It turns out that in the land Down Under, "games" are more popular than "porn."
Google's search analysis tool has revealed that the most popular search term in Australia in 2008 is "games," a bit of a surprising statistic given the fact that, as we all know, the internet is for porn. Apparently our Foster's-chugging cousins didn't get the memo on that one, although people in Queensland and New South Wales can at least claim to be doing their best to get it up - the porn search numbers, that is. Searches for "porn" were most frequent in those states, while people in Tasmania and the Northern Territory came in behind... in search statistics.
As the Australian site Gameplayer points out, however, the statistics don't account for searches for "game" and "porn" at the same time, a stealthy tactic that can really put the solid in your snake. "Forget searching for live-action pornography in this digital day and age, gaming pornography is to games what Hentai is to Manga," reporter Nathan Lawrence wrote on the site. "How many of us have 'accidentally' stumbled on a super-revealing shot of Lara Croft, a YouTube video of the naked version of Dead or Alive Beach Volleyball or been inspired by the girls of Soul Calibur IV?"
Of course, pedantic, terminally-dull commentators will remind us that people who have spent more than two days online know that successful porn searches have to be refined using terms like **********, **** *********** and of course, the perennial favorite, ******* *******. But none of those words, or anything even remotely similar, were among the lexicon of most popular searches in Australia, indicating a dedication to gaming that those of us in more sexually-repressed climes can only hope to emulate.
I, for one, am not afraid to admit to installing the "nude" mod for The Elder Scrolls: Oblivion, although in my defense I did it entirely for aesthetic and artistic purposes and played the game exclusively in "pants-on" mode. The Witcher, on the other hand...
