Get Your Religious Rock On

image

A Christian Guitar Hero clone is coming September 25.

Guitar Praise: Solid Rock, produced by Christian entertainment company Digital Praise, is set to include 52 "inspirational and pulsating tracks" from Christian rock bands Flyleaf, Petra, Whitecross, Newsboys, Skillet and more.

"People love the console guitar games on the market, but many would like more family-friendly songs and graphics," said Digital Praise Chief Executive Officer Tom Bean. "Guitar Praise gives kids, families and youth groups the play features they like best, plus some new twists as well as the best Christian rock titles out there today."

The game features two player compatibility for both guitar and bass much like the Guitar Hero franchise. Also borrowed from the series is the PowerDuel mode where competing guitarists throw "surprises" at each other to affect the performance.

The game package costs $99.99, including a wireless guitar compatible for both Windows and Mac operating system. Additional guitars can be ordered for $69.95.

And to all you Christian would-be rock stars, don't worry about failing because the onscreen band members stop playing to give you a break when you slip before continuing to hail their high-voltage hymns.

Because if there is one thing that ruins a game, it's the chance that you won't always win.

Digital Praise plans to release Muslim and Jewish expansions later this year.

:p

Mmm...The sweet smell of ideological child abuse in the morning.

Underoath please.

Can't....breathe...laughing...too hard....

If theres no Demon Hunter, I will be sorely upset.

And good to see they copied the absolute crappiest of the three titles.

They better have As I Lay Dying, best Christian-Death Metal ever!!!

Full Track List

Sorry, Sirisaxman.

I'm offended.

Where's Guitar Cult of Cthulu?

In any case, people should cut Christian bands some slack. At least they have something to actually sing ABOUT.

Because everybody knows that the lyrics of classic rock are ALWAYS profound.

...

Well, at least they always mean SOMETHING...

...

Shit.

That's almost as funny as when I heard some stupid teenager tell me that rap sings about REAL stuff.

Wow, the Jewish Expansion would be DA BOMB! :D Perfect for Bar and Bat Mitzvahs!

...oh shit that is amazing.

I kinda want it, just to see what it's like to look it. Like watching a train-wreck.

i really don't fancy the milking of pockets based on religon

LOL

OMG thank you. I just had a root canal yesterday, and this makes me feel so much better.

L to the A to the M-E LAME...

Christion rock=oxymoron
But seriously, how much did they pay EA to use the guitar controller. If you read the terms of use on Guitar Hero III, it actually says that you're not allowed to use 3rd party controllers.

Which is sort of ironic seeing as that's what they do anyway...

I wonder when the Viking Metal expansion is going to come out, next spring maybe?

death metal? you're not even close buddy

Flyleaf's a Christian band... ah well, their music is still alright.

Anyways, I really hate this. I'm against using something like religion to peddle a product, and believe that religion should be something untouched by money (an impossible ideal, I know), so this really rubs me the wrong way.

Still, let's hope this thing tanks so miserably that everyone else gets the idea that they shouldn't be so stupid and insensitive.

What!?! No Stryper!?!

At least tell me there's some Faith+1 on there...

+++++

The problem with Christian Rock is the same problem with White Power Hardcore is the same problem with--to a much lesser extent--Ska: to the extent you have people buying music for the lifestyle it represents and not for the quality of the performance, you're guaranteed to get dreck in a corresponding quantity. Sure every once in a while you get a Stryper or a Skrewdriver, but mostly, you get garbage.

Yeah, that struck me as ironic as well. Considering you have to pay your church weekly to prove you are a "good Christian".

Not really... Subject matter of lyrics =/= Coolness.

A song about hardcore sex with extremely hot women is terrible if sung by a guy with a tracheotamy[sic] while getting high off of helium.

I'm a Good Christian and I haven't been to church in months.

The tithe is asked of you, but it never says "GIVE CHURCH MONEY OR U GO TO HELL DAWG".

Lmao! Excellent! Something for Yahtzee to hopefully crucify with blunt rusty nails shaped like penises! No offence to the christian demographic but..

OHH CHRRIIST THIS SHIT IS BANANAS

Due to my personal bias against religion, and the fact I don't want want to explain what this game is to anyone who looks at what games I've played, I won't be touching this with a ten foot pole.

"I have a bad feeling about this..."

Mormons have to pay ten percent of their income or they get excommunicated. I'm pretty sure other religions at least subtley nudge you towards the collection plate with a strong sense of "Insert money to not feel guilty anymore." Then they make you feel guilty again so you'll put more in the collection plate.

whoa, what kinda of lifestyle is ska? And more importantly, I like ska

Usnota:
"I have a bad feeling about this..."

"That's no game! its blatant religious indoctrination!"

I kinda get why a game like this would be released and I can imagine friends of mine buying this. But why can't these people look at Johnny Cash and U2 and realise that the best way to create great Christian art is to stop making Christian art and just make art.

Continuing my theme from earlier, on the recent UK census, I listed my religion as Jedi, as did many others, when can we expect "Mos Eisley Canteena Hero! - a rock hive of scum and villainy" although there would be only one song so that may not work.

I now declare this dead horse officially flogged!
