Child plays video games->???-> Child turns into a zombie. I feel we're missing a fairly crucial step in that logic. Like where the T-Virus was introduced? |

Look, I'm even a Maverick in taking on the entertainment industry! I'm about to loose my ability to practice law, but I can still write them! Look, even vital ones! Please talk to Mr. McCain about getting me a new job in Washington so I can be an even larger pain in the ass! -end interpretation, and the world shakes in fear. . . because the campaign may just take him up on that offer. . . - |

Missing there is the critical second half of the sentence that says "to shoot it down so fast and hard it won't be able to sit down ever again" |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 608 Joined: 6 Oct 2008 | I'm contemplating if Jack Thomson is actually worthy of my hate or not... Should I just ignore him? I know he's been ridiculous, and has been for years... Blaming everything on CSS or some variation of a shooter game, giving news reports on incidents and blaming videogames before any established facts are out in the open... But does he actually deserve my hatred? .... Of course he does. He hates my favorite hobby. And wants to abolish it from the face of the earth despite the fact that he is a former gamer himself... Without being too radical, it's like that 'hitler was a jew' myth... Ridiculous. |

That's pretty much what I was thinking. I mean... the majority, as ignorant as they may be at times, don't honestly take Thompson seriously, right? So having him aligned with the McCain / Palin campaign is surely a nail in the coffin rather than a beacon in the dark. Of course I could just be really naive. |

They'd be fools to do so, such a thing would cost them more votes than its worth, nevermind that a Constitutional amendment is not nearly as simple as |

Doubtful. This is just some crazy guy trying to hit them up, no way they're dumb enough to touch him with a 10 foot pole. It's kind of like getting the endorsement of the KKK...no one wants it, but you can't force them to not endorse you, so your screwed //On that note I wonder if the KKK are going to come out in support for McCain since his competitor is an african american man. Oh lordy, that would be so aweful and so hilarious at the same time. |

I remember reading on one site (may have been a hoax) that one of the KKK Dragons (one of the higher ranks I believe) endorsed Obama over Clinton because, and I roughly quote, "Anything's better than that bitch." |

WHOA, Whoa, hang on a second- First, he says the Video Games are to blame for teaching The lil' ones to murder, then he says that WE are to blame for teaching Johnny how to murder Jimmy. Who's really to blame: Video games, or Everyone else? Please tell us, O' Wise and Mystical Jack! |

Well the ex-warden of the Hanoi Hilton is on board the McCain Train in addition to an undisclosed number of crazy evangelists that I could've sworn McCain told to go away at one point before he started running for president...the point is that I wouldn't be surprised. |

Not everyone who is against videogame violence is a slack-jawed, overly-conversative twat, y'know. |

It's disappointing that my attempt at humour was far, far too late. Also, that guy seems to have is head on straight, but what does it have to do with what I said? This is what I hate about the net, I thought I was making a good point and I seem to have been completely misunderstood. I'll try and clarify: Censorship and hyper-violence in media are both worth talking about. So are many of the things Palin pretends she understands. I would prefer time on the airways and important political posts were given to people who actually knew what they were talking about. |

Ah, apologies. Although I did laugh at the whole 'CoD 6 causes losses in Iran', heh. I agree, but some of the wide, vague and idiotic statements that these under qualified knit-wits mean have some backing. When gamers do articles defending videogame censorship, often they are in a far better position to make judgements about this sort of thing but always will be biased towards the minority. By making absurd, pretentious statements against videogames the likes of Thompson (and probably Palin, TBH) get the automatic backing of the masses because simply not enough people know about modern gaming to realise that what these figures are saying is wrong. To many, Jack is a leading expert on this hot-topic (just look at his show appearance list) and a legally qualified (but not any more!) professional - expert in his field (or at least his wife is). To many, Jack is the antithesis of what they believe the average gamer to be (unemployed, socially inept and braindead) which is why they give him so much coverage, I think. Just as much as the politicians need a sane voice of reason to say 'some videogames are wrong, but others are good!' we also need a sane gamer to step up, stop unanimously bashing these strawmen for the sake of flaming, and speak some sense into the pill-popping, Escapist news-commenting, Xbox Live crowd at the same time. Censorship is great to talk about: But only if both sides understand each other. I just wanted to link The Three Rs, TBH. :P I'm sure Maly is stick of me defending notorious anti-gaming figures and the issues they stand for on his threads anyway. |

Jack Thompson Likes Sarah Palin
Soon-to-be-former attorney Jack Thompson has written a letter to Republican vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin, offering his services to her campaign by way of his latest and greatest Constitutional amendment against videogames.
Thompson has decided to spend his remaining few days as a game-hating attorney throwing his support behind the McCain-Palin campaign, which he says is "missing the boat" on the issue of children being turned into homicidal zombie maniacs by the videogame industry. Thompson claims, according to "a number of reliable polls," that fully 70 percent of Americans want a federal law prohibiting the sales of "adult" videogames to minors; fortunately, Thompson is ready to ride to the rescue and provide just such legislation.
"I have this crucial, constitutional legislation drafted and ready to go," he wrote in his letter. "You will see voters flock to your proposal. The American entertainment industry's assault upon our children and our values must stop, and you are the person to stop it."
Of course, numerous state-level attempts to impose such laws, some authored or inspired by Thompson, have been declared unconstitutional in each and every case, but that hasn't stopped Thompson's grandstanding against the game industry, nor has his pending disbarment for "irrational and self-aggrandizing antics," "cumulative misconduct" and numerous other ethical and legal violations. Thompson's permanent disbarment takes effect on October 25.
