Anonymous Source Posts: 6 Joined: 15 Oct 2008 | First post... Yata yata yata yeah I know Anyways there will be a problem with the Xbox port. Sheer size... MGS4 occupies the space of a full dual layer Blue ray disk (About 50 GB) while and Xbox port would need to run on regular DVDs (8.54 GB whey dual layered) To me this means the Xbox 360 version would comprise of at least 5 disks... Some thing not unheard of (FFVIIII and Legend of dragoon) but it has not been done in almost a Decade. Also this game has been built to be played on the PS3, which is known as a more powerful, all be it expensive and harder to develop for, system and would need to be dumbed down for the Xbox.... |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2693 Joined: 6 Jun 2008 | I'd play it. Probably have to be a multi-disc game though. As long as it lets me run it off the hardrive (without switching discs) I see no problem. |

Copy Clerk Posts: 69 Joined: 21 Jul 2008 | As stated above the question isn't will it be coming to the xbox 360, it is whether or not it will work on the 360. And all signs point to no, let me explain. Not only is the game 50 gb it is also coded differently see the in order to make xbox game you need to program with a language that is c++ related it is also the reason why a lot of the 360 games you see is also on the pc. Mean while the ps3 is lenux base. If it were to be put on the 360 it will need to be rewritten making what would be a 5 disks game in to say 11 disk with the c++ converion now that is unheard of. However the 360 may see MGS 5. seeing how popular it is then again maybe not seeing how the majority of the fan base is still on the ps3 side of things. |

remember that the size (aka filling up a blu ray) is a result of uncompressed audio, and possibly lower compression video. those 2 uncompressed eat up a LOT of space. If the game were compressed like other games, I could see it fitting on 2 disks if not 1. But I guess it depends on how much quality they're willing to sacrifice. |

I disagree. There have been off and on again rumors about a Blu-Ray player for Xbox. Also with the launch of the new dashboard, owners can supposedly rip discs to their HD thus eliminating the need for discs after initial install anyway. Maybe it may be entirely a download in a year from now. By the time this is ready, maybe MS will unveil yet a new high capacity HD which ripping space won't be an issue. They've already announced dropping prices on 20GB drives for Arcade users at $19.99, so why couldn't they have a 100GB drive next year for $50?I can aleady see a new Elite MSG4 bundle like they did with Halo. And the argument of C++ vs. Linux is moot, as localized teams do this all the time..porting back and forth. Given the $$ at stake, the idea of selling 250K+ copies of MSG4 to players in a year from now is hard to ignore if your the developer holding the rights. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1054 Joined: 14 Dec 2007 | If they can get it on the 360 without making it shitty, then we will cross that bridge when we come to it. Until then, why take random shots in the dark about something that may or may not happen in the next 2-5 years? |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1187 Joined: 2 Oct 2008 | I've been wanting MGS4 on the 360 since it came out and when I heard Kojima say that it was NEVER coming to the 360, I died a little inside... I'm not 100% sold that there will in fact be MGS4 on the 360 and I certainly am not getting my hopes up for it either. All these Sony exclusives jumping ship to the 360 is really just starting to show the future of the games industry and how there probably will only be one super powerful console... Wow, David Jaffe sure did predict the future... |

I mean, they barely use the six-axis at all, and they can just tone down certain things that would overload the 360 processor. I would love to see the game on 360, but I doubt it will happen. |

If you didn't stop those puns I might have had to make you fox die .
Yes, clearly nobody could have seen this coming. Not even if they heard the announcement from Hideo Kojima that Metal Gear Solid 4 was never being ported to Xbox 360. Anyone that could have predicted this would have to be psychic. |

Wow. First off, it's called "Linux". Secondly, that's not the difference, the difference is that the Xbox 360 uses a different processor architecture than the Ps3 (x86 vs Power PC if i'm not mistaken). And if you're trying to tell me that there is no C++ compiler for a power PC based processor... I'm just going to sulk my head and walk away. |

On the Record Posts: 6649 Joined: 22 Aug 2008 | Surprised? Not terribly. I kinda guessed it was gonna happen back when MGS4 was announced. I didn't expect such a long separation release dates, but I suppose in hindsight it was to keep PS3 'fanboys' happy. Not a bad plan on the whole. Maybe they'll ship with a ZoE3 demo (Pretty please Kojima? I'll be your friend!) like they shipped ZoE1 with an MGS2 demo. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2231 Joined: 12 Oct 2007 | Even if it does come no one will care, just like no one cared about Overlord, Bioshock, or Eternal Sonata when they finally were announced for the PS3. MGS2 was on the original Xbox and did fuck all. From what I understand the resurrection of this rumor seems to stem from some dork using google translation as a news source instead of finding an actual human being to translate the article. This sounds like the rumor a while back quoting another unnamed Konami source as saying that MGS4 could possibly end up on the 360. Ironically his game being ported would just solidify the 360 as nothing more than a bootleg ps3. Kind of like one of those fake consoles you can pick up in China for example. It's kind of annoying to see so many "me too" releases from Microsoft. Why should I even bother with your console if I can get the same games on a system less likely to fail on me? |

cos you can also get Xbox exclusives? Because you might prefer the xbox system? Because you want to show your support for Microsoft? Because you like the way the 360 controller feels in your hand? Because you enjoy berating people over Xbox Live? Heck I dunno. There are a few reasons to buy a PS3 over a 360, and a few reasons in the other direction. I think "Personal Preference" is the name of the game. |

Way to miss the point, I'm trying to make a point about brand identity and the fact that this "me too" business is just highlighting all the weaknesses of the system. I already have a 360 and it's been steadily pissing me off how every other "major announcement" from Microsoft is either some game that the other guy has already, or some weird amalgum of some features that another company already did without even improving on the older idea, or an admission that they fucked up by not including some feature that the other company managed to include out of the box. I just want to find whoever holds the games division purse strings and tell the dumb bastard to buy more fucking real exclusives and to stop selling that useless arcade unit, it's not right to treat consumers like suckers. |

Metal Gear Solid 4 Coming To Xbox?
Another day, another high profile PlayStation exclusive casts an eye toward the Xbox 360: It looks like Metal Gear Solid 4 may be showing up on the Microsoft console after all.
The Xbox 360 has been on the move in recent weeks, picking up franchises that had previously been exclusive to, or at least strongly identified with, Sony's PlayStation consoles. The Resident Evil series will be debuting on the system with the upcoming Resident Evil 5, a 360 version of Final Fantasy XIII is in the works and at the Tokyo Game Show last week, the company announced that Tekken 6 is being developed for the Xbox 360 as well as the PlayStation 3.
Now, via a Kotaku report, comes news that one of the biggest PlayStation exclusives of them all may one day turn up on the Microsoft console. Despite having denied the possibility until now, Konami PR rep Yoshitaka Arai told Japanese investor site Morningstar that as a result of the system's growing popularity, the company was considering an Xbox version of Metal Gear Solid 4. "The worldwide demand for an Xbox 360 version (of MGS4) is quite high, and it is something we are currently looking into," he said.
It's a big reversal given that in August, MSG creator Hideo Kojima said that PlayStation 3 optimizations for the game meant that an Xbox 360 version "is probably not possible." On the other hand, SCEE President David Reeves admitted around the same time that console exclusivity was being increasingly rare, saying, "We have to accept more and more that platform holders themselves cannot have exclusives unless they're given millions and millions of dollars not to develop a particular game for one particular platform."
