Gone Gonzo Posts: 1540 Joined: 6 Apr 2008 | Well...it looks pretty awesome, but, the only thing really 'WoW' about it is that dinky little tag on the top, and knowing the kind of wear mice go through, it'll be almost fading within' a month or so of use hehe ^^' |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2621 Joined: 27 Aug 2008 | Damn, for a moment there I almost missed PC gaming. There was something beautiful in being able to reload and switch weapon with my thumb. Fingers crossed WoW players will now be able to operate entirely one handed, giving them free reign to snarff cheetos at a more continuous pace. Kudos to the inventor, a subtle but ingenious way of killing of the MMORPGers! |

On the Record Posts: 6101 Joined: 25 Jan 2008 | That mouse intrigues me, but they do fail with it... You'd think with so many buttons they could have at least included the secondary scroll wheel of my MX Revolution, and I also doubt it has the click-on/click-off freescrolling main wheel. May buy it, but I know it won't replace my MX-R for daily use, nor for certain games that make good use of the MX's features. |

I think you map that one yourself. Either that, or it's on the other side. User was put on probation for: Do you think you're sexually attractive?. (3 days) |

It we aren't talking specifically about WoW... To compete with joysticks. This mouse would be a dream for games like Mechwarrior 3 or Freelancer. |

I get by fine with a 5-button mouse. Though I suppose this would mean I would have to press shift fewer times...? |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1094 Joined: 11 Oct 2008 | I use 3 buttons of my mouse and I'm used to it. After all what good is it if the only fingers of mine that are adapted are the ring, the index and the FU. I guess this is nice for people who only have 1 arm or are desperate to become better at WoW. |

It looks like someone took a look at Issac Clarke's helmet from Dead Space and said "I could make a peripherial out of it" having said that that does look like a very kickass mouse but there is no need for that many buttons. Keyboards aren't exactly a new concept, SteelSeries. |

I miss my 5-button Trackball (Damn Microsoft for discontinuing it). The only thumb-driven optical trackballs on the market are these two near-identical (one just wireless) Logitech models, which only have the base-2 buttons and the wheel. I'd settle for my old 5-button model, but if I could get a 15-button thumb-trackball... |
Artist Posts: 91 Joined: 18 Jun 2007 | I actually downgraded my mouse because I hate accidentally clicking one of many flippin' buttons and completely messing up whatever I'm doing. Though... from an artistic perspective... it is pretty. |
News Room Contributor Posts: 8058 Joined: 12 Nov 2002 | I had to do the same thing, actually. I was constantly bashing the side buttons on my MX510 every time I grabbed the mouse, so I ended up disabling them. I've had the mouse for ages and I'm still very happy with it, but what I've really ended up with is a nicely-contoured three-button mouse. |

On the Record Posts: 5927 Joined: 7 Mar 2008 | yeah mouse has too many buttons, no way do you need that many really, even in battle grounds you'd hit the wrong button way too many times i'm sure |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1684 Joined: 7 Feb 2008 | This mouse will fail. Unless that mouse has the tracking ability to compete with the G5 or MX518 (Razer equivalents too) then it will just fail. More buttons on a mouse =/= good mouse. Oh and DPI means jack squat. Most professional Quake III players are at or below 800 DPI on their mice. EDIT: Here's a rough outline of what my palm (pretty average sized) will look like on the mouse.
Like many gamers, I tend to flex my thumb against the mouse when I'm getting a bit stressed or simply trying to make some more precise, and slow movements. Already you can see some problems in the design... It is not very gamer friendly. |
BANNED Posts: 3486 Joined: 25 Aug 2008 | I don't really understand, mainly because I do not really understand WoW... What is so very special about this mouse? I mean, it looks cool and has shiny buttons and all, but what can it do? In layman's terms please, for I lack knowledge of the computer world. Plus, why would it need 16 million, from what I can gather, colours? Enlightenment is needed methinks... User was banned for: The Second Annual Escapist Election: Part 1: Presidential Primaries. SteelSeries Unveils The Ultimate WoW Mouse
Are you hardcore? I mean, really hardcore? If so, then maybe you should take a look at the World of Warcraft MMO Gaming Mouse, a new 15-button monstrosity from SteelSeries.
First unveiled to the lucky crowd at BlizzCon 2008, The new World of Warcraft MMO Gaming Mouse supports advanced macro creation of up to 160 characters, six resolution settings ranging from 800 to 3200 DPI, 15 programmable buttons including a four-way D-pad on the side and for that personal touch, 16 million illumination colors that can be assigned to individual profiles.
"Our concepts and designs cater to the global community of MMO players and for the first time, World of Warcraft players have a new type of gaming accessory that was created specifically for them," said SteelSeries CEO Bruce Hawver. "Through our recent acquisition of Ideazon and the wealth of creativity that the team brought to the table, it was a natural next step that we work with Blizzard Entertainment to create new products that help enhance players' World of Warcraft experience."
The mouse will support up to ten different profiles which can be switched in real time, and the bundled software, designed to emulate the look and feel of the actual World of Warcraft interface, will include over 130 pre-programmed game commands to make macro creation as simple and intuitive as possible.
Blizzard COO Paul Sams praised the mouse for dovetailing with Blizzard's design philosophy of ensuring gamers have a "high degree of freedom in customizing their experience," saying, "The World of Warcraft MMO Gaming Mouse extends that principle by putting a wide range of new control options in players' hands."
This mad mousing bad-boy is going to list for about 100 bucks when it goes on sale later this year, probably not the cheapest mouse you'll ever buy but quite possibly the sexiest. And 15 buttons! That's like half a keyboard, if you only count the letters.
