Muckraker Posts: 258 Joined: 12 Nov 2008 | These PETA people showed up in my town to protest the treatment of chickens outside the local KFC. The first day they were ran off by the cops, the second day the customers pelted them with chicken bones. You can't make shit that funny up. That being said I think this game is going to bite them in the ass much harder than they may be expecting, Nintendo has major muscle in the legal department.. |

Now that would be hilarious... as I vegetarian myself, I can say that, should they (PETA) be sued, I will be on the sidelines, selling popcorn (no, not popcorn chicken). |

Copy Clerk Posts: 97 Joined: 8 Oct 2008 | PETA is at least trying to accomplish some good goals, but I have to draw the line somewhere. Sending kids comics that graphically depict animals being killed and marketing a video game along the same lines is where I draw it. I get grossed out easily, so something like this wouldn't appeal to me. Don't get me wrong, I think its great they're trying to cut down on animal abuse, but there are somethings that it's going to be really hard for them to change. I personally think PETA could be doing more to help relieve the pressure on animal shelters as opposed to turning the world into vegans. |

For anyone and everyone here who thinks PETA is trying to do something good or noble, grow a brain. Seriously! PETA is the same organization that believes zoo animals need to be put down rather than released to the wild, simply because they've been "tamed" by humans. These are also the same group demanding the whole world go vegetarian and never keep pets or lab animals. They are fucking fundies, and we need them imprisoned or eliminated for the acts of terrorism they commit, and the hatred they spread. |

Perhaps that can be arranged... But in all seriousness, I've hated PETA since I knew they existed. Even when I thought they were doing good things for animals, I couldn't stand them. I could go on, but TsunamiWombat's links have it covered. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1083 Joined: 11 May 2008 | This game sucks... Ok so the gist of it was great i got to mutilate a turkey, but it awards me for doing that by letting me make tofu? That's not an award that's punishment [/sarcasm] |

Beat Writer Posts: 180 Joined: 10 Feb 2008 | Man, the entire time I was playing that game, I was thinking to myself "the fuck is this nonsense?' I fail to see how preparing a dead turkey is the same as torturing a live one. I'm all in support of free range farms, but this is just bullshit. |

Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 884 Joined: 19 Sep 2008 | I had a lot of fun playing the game! However, I couldn't saw the turkey's head into three pieces quick enough, and kept getting the "You're too nice!" rating. Its unfair. I genuinely wanted to chop the damn thing's head up. PETA is awful. If they had it their way then diabetics wouldn't be allowed insulin because it contains animal products. |

Time Lord Posts: 10005 Joined: 13 Feb 2008 | One of the scarier things is when you look at the original Cooking Mama website and in the ESPB rating there are warnings that it * Contains Alcohol References Now...even if you are a teetotaler pacifist, surely you aren't likely to come across this game and think "Well, there's going to be no references to knives or alcohol in a cooking game, are there?" Seriously, I'm waiting for the day when coal has to be labelled with "Flammable" markings. |

No they don't: Butchering the turkey was far more fun than preparing tofu in the bonus level. I don't think that PETA intended that *g* I don't think they will get sued for copyright infringement. As far as I know parodies are protected as free speech. Not sure about it. |

I did, and it was a good laugh. PETA certainly appears to be more "extreme fringe" than I previously thought; I knew there was some crossover with the ALF and other individuals and groups that condone violence in the name of animal rights, but I had no idea it was so pervasive. And learning that PETA endorses euthanizing animals rather than having them in captivity, regardless of the nature of that captivity, was eye-opening. But my original statement still stands: Generally speaking, I do support a lot of what PETA is trying to accomplish. Not that "total liberation for all animals" bullshit (to borrow a term) but the decent, humane treatment of animals, including food animals. Some animals - chickens, cows, pigs - are bred for food, that's just the way it goes, but I think we could do a better job of handling them than we do now. Just because an animal is being raised as food doesn't mean it needs to suffer a miserable life and horrible death. Do I support PETA's methods? Obviously not. But as far as the desire for a greater overall respect for animals of all stripes goes, I can go with that. (Perhaps I do go to the extreme in some ways. Unlike Penn and Teller, I would happily kill every street junkie with AIDS in the world, with my bare hands, if it meant saving the bonobos or mountain gorillas. Well, maybe not all of them, but at least a hundred or so.) I find Virgil's point interesting too, and accurate. For a cheap attention-whoring Flash game, Mama Kills Animals is really quite well done. There's been some real thought and effort put into it, especially compared to other, similar efforts by agencies you'd think could do better. Check out some of the UN's minigame about feeding refugees as an example; it doesn't have anywhere near the depth or production quality of MKA. (Going to have to Google it for yourself, though.) PETA obviously understands the value of a quality PR campaign. |

I support a lot of what the NSPCC, RSPCA, Amnesty etc. do and what they aim for; but my main criticism is a lot of the methods they use; and as a subsidiary concern, some of the half-hearted hypocrites that say they're saving the world when they're actually doing as much harm. As for PETA, given that the greatest minds can't determine what Ethics for a human, never mind an animal are; you have to first question what they're actually wanting to achieve and secondly, how feeding a cat/dog vegetarian food isn't infringing on their rights.... |
Muckraker Posts: 332 Joined: 17 Aug 2008 | That was pretty funny... although the game got dull once I didn't get to do the bloody things anymore :( |

PETA is a terrorist-lite organization, and it always has been. And it has financial ties to convicted arsonists who firebobmed medical research labs for experimenting on animals. It's all public domain knowledge, in their tax returns. I direct you to Penn and Tellers: BULLSHIT! To preach the gospel for me.

If you support PETA, financially or personally, I suggest you stop. Your money is better served at local shelters, adoption services, or rescue operations.
