Paperboy Posts: 18 Joined: 17 Oct 2008 | I'll quit with the Guitar Hero when Nickelback quits with crappy songs and albums...please, this is a terrible band. They're probably jealousy that some of the kid out there are more accomplished musicians than them just from playing Guitar Hero and other such games. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2997 Joined: 13 Aug 2008 | Personally, I like a couple of Nickelback's songs. That's all I can really say about them. However, I do know that music is not my calling, and as such, I will enjoy Guitar Hero, though I play it rarely. I don't think he's saying that Guitar Hero needs to be outlawed, or that people should stop playing it, but that those who actually want to devote their lives to music should focus on real instruments. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 413 Joined: 6 Dec 2007 | To be honest, opinions about what you think about the quality of Nickelback's music aren't relevant to debating the point. Bash Nickelback all you want, they're a proven band with proven album success with proven fanbase, which makes the quote credible regardless of whether or not you think Chad Kroeger should die in a fire. That being said, I don't agree with what he's saying. In a world where hip-hop and top 40 pop rule the charts, rock has found new exposure in Guitar Hero and Rock Band. It's doubtful that the games are taking away from playing the real instruments and are instead inspiring them to do so. |
Muckraker Posts: 338 Joined: 12 Oct 2007 | I'll start a rock band if Nickelback agrees to break up. It's an even deal. |
Press Junketeer Posts: 433 Joined: 3 Oct 2007 | Just gonna say what's likely been said a thousand times already: I had a bit of interest in learning to play the guitar or drum set before Guitar Hero and Rock Band (I was at least a percussionist in concert band, but never learned the set). After those games, my desire has technically been increased. But instruments are expensive and time to practice is, well, time consuming. If someone wants to learn to play an instrument enough, then they will. It's that simple. As for a "lack of rock bands", I don't think there's any real shortage. Then again, I don't pay attention to rock in this country because it sucks. The way I see it, if the only people learning to play guitar and drums actually have a love of music and not a love of the rock star dream, the better. |

ditto.
it's not boring cause songs that make your head hurt can't be considered "boring" |

basically they are corporate rock whores who make VERY bad music, they spout how awesome they are but they keep writing the same music over and over and to top it off the lead singer has some sort of ego trip
that's the one i was thinking of |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 603 Joined: 3 Jul 2008 | This is an awfully lot of bashing on them, I think Nickleback is a really good band but thats mine opinion, I still love some of the older songs they made, don't judge em by that (Shivers) Rockstar song..... I can kinda understand what they are saying but on the other hand I can't play regular instruments (except piano.....) so GH and rockband is a s close as i'll get |
Infamous Scribbler Posts: 541 Joined: 9 Feb 2008 | never been a fan of guitar hero and i kinda share this view, since in the time it takes to get the gist of guitar hero you could learn to play a song. |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 1237 Joined: 25 Nov 2007 | I think a bunch of other people have already made all the points I could think of, so... I wonder how long it will be before Britney Spears tells people to stop playing Dance Dance Revolution because she's having trouble finding decent backup dancers? |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2585 Joined: 27 Sep 2008 | It looks like a throwaway comment to me. Not something that he means in a negative way. More a "If you want the rock experience, do something positive about it rather than pretend" |
Gone Gonzo Posts: 2893 Joined: 6 Mar 2008 | Fuck you, Nickelback... just... just, fuck you! It's not like playing Guitar Hero or Rock Band is taking the "easy path" to becoming a rock star or something. It's completely different, it's just a fun little game to play. |
Anonymous Source Posts: 1 Joined: 20 May 2009 | Rock band & real guitar playing? Surely there's time for both? In anycase I would have thought that Nickelback's unlistenable filth would be more of a deterent to any who entertain the idea of picking up a guitar. I would hope that in most cases aspiring axe-slingers would rethink their musical ideas in a humane preventative effort that, unlike Chaoger and chums, not to learn to play an instrument would mean never finding themselves poluting people's ears in the future. Nickelback suck massively - for all in this thread who have praised the Kroeger party, or even expressed 'on the fence views' shame on you - my pity in droves. Wanna hear good canadian music? Go buy some Neil Young. |

Paperboy Posts: 32 Joined: 25 Jul 2008 | I think Chad is a talking hand trying to say something controversial to get attention. This theory is completely retarded: I didn't play Duck Hunt to get better weapons handling. I didn't play NBA Jam to work on my jump shot. I didn't play boxing on the wii to work on my right hook. I don't listen to nickelback because they suck and so do their opinions. Don't let celebrities think for you. Leave that to politicians and Fox news. Word to you mother. |

Paperboy Posts: 11 Joined: 20 Mar 2009 | I think the lack of people wanting to form rock bands has got a lot more to do with the huge rise in people who want to be DJ's (including me). I know many people who love, or at least appreciate good rock music but have no interest in playing an instrument or singing because they've got hooked on the idea of becoming a DJ and playing electronic music instead. Though that is in the UK, not in Canada. I don't think Nickelback tour much here. |

Infamous Scribbler Posts: 693 Joined: 13 Jan 2009 | It's probably much more realistic to play guitar hero than to spend years of your life playing guitar only to discover your not "Nikelback" enough to be in the industry. This is like those crappy "PUNK" Green Day chaps. |
SUSPENDED Posts: 81 Joined: 25 Mar 2008 | Not enough Rock Bands!? There's too many Rock Bands and there always will be. There are so many piss-poor bands that it's a good thing if more of the people who want to play guitar pick up a video-game instead of a real guitar. It'll hopefully stop them assuming people want to hear their unoriginal, boring and contrived music, thus saving us all from having to stand through wave after wave of bad support acts when we go to see our favourite acts. I'd just like to say that I'm 16 and I've been playing Guitar and Bass for about 6 years now, self-taught, and I actually significantly better than what Nickelback leads on to be; Nickelback sucks, but its okay if you like bad music. |

Just for shits and giggles...how much time do you think you've spent in the last month playing video games of any variety? Because all I took from your angry rant of a post was that anyone who spends time doing something fun that you don't happen to view as worthwhile, is wasting their time. Not every minute of the day needs to be spent doing something "worthwhile" in the traditional sense. Some people like to have fun just for fun's sake.
And as a side note, I'm going to jump on the bandwagon and say, Nickelback can tell me too "OMGZORZ LEARN REAL GUITAR NUB!" when they...learn to play their instruments. I'm not trying to bash anyone who listens to them; we all have our own tastes. Lord knows I listen to my fair share of music that isn't necessarily on the top of the pile when it comes to technical prowess, but just because I listen to it doesn't mean I'm going to claim it's technically advanced.
*edit* Word fix.
