Over 100,000 PlayStation Home Invites Tonight

image

Sony's virtual world is about to get a lot more lively (too soon?) with the addition of over 100,000 new beta testers.

The PlayStation Home team hit a milestone last night with the release of beta 1.0 for testers of Sony's virtual world application for the PlayStation 3. While the release marks a series of improvements for the service, the real news for those outside the secret confines of Home is that tonight, over 100,000 beta invites for Home will be sent out to European PlayStation Network users.

The massive amount of invites are being sent out in preparation for a stress load test, also scheduled for tonight. Next week, yet another, even larger group of lucky PSN users will be invited into Home, though no region was specified. Should you not get into that, an open beta "will not be far behind" according to Sony.

Sony's European Home community manager would also like to remind all their new testers that Home is not a game and this is not a launch, but the start of a journey. I just hope that doesn't mean Home is getting delayed. Again.

Update: PS3 Fanboy is reporting that due to an error on Sony's end, European invites have been put on hold for a few days. Meanwhile, PSN users in the US are currently receiving invites.

Oh, Sony, you and your errors.

But it's nice to see this finaly start picking up some steam and getting on its feet. I hope I get into the beta, it seems like a cool application to mess around with a bit.

Version 1.0 (released a few days ago) has been really fun.... the only way to describe it is standing around talking to people, but who would ever want to just talk to others about pointless topics or watch videos (forums with mics).

The down side is they are trickling content to us "beta testers" (bullshit) in case something breaks they can remove it from the "launch". Hopefully it won't be the video sharing that is broke due to copywrite... but all that meens is people (not me ofcourse) will share websites where you can download the zhit instead... which meen people logging in and out like crasy to Pineapple Exprese.... but won't prevent the issue.

Sorry, went off subject a bit there... Home is better than you expect... if your willing to give a free item 15minutes of your time instead of being a Sony hating Ahole.

Please pick me, please pick me, please pick me.

I think it comes under region coding areas, so Australia uses the same form of the PsN. Where was I? Oh yeah.

Please pick me, please pick me, please pick me.

Is the Escapist going to buy an Escapist Clubhouse, or do we have to do it ourselves?

The clubhouses are free.
You must have a PSN account to get the clubhouse (credit card) presumably so that if you post pedofile shit on your walls and invite a bunch of kids they will have your real name on file.... or copywrite shit, but I doubt Sony will jump in front of that bullet anytime soon. I'll let you make the clubhouse, but if you want some cool free shit for your PS3 search and join "End Game" Clubhouse Dingo.

Damn, pick me Sony! They did give me access to the Motorstorm 2 demo a month early, so they must already like me. Which must obviously mean that they'll invite me to home. I hope so anyway, sick of the Microsoft avatars already.

You got that cause you subscribe to Quore. I don't think this works on the same principle.

Well what does this mean?

Ps3Fanboy.com:
Update: The PlayStation Closed Beta site says clubs will be a for-pay service. "Club is a service that requires regular payment. During Closed Beta test users can enjoy this service free of charge." However, a Sony developer clarifies saying "Clubs do not cost money. There will be premium club houses."

I have no idea what they're saying, and I've studied Formal Logic.

He's saying that Clubs, they are free.
However, if you want an even cooler club house, you have to pay rent.

Escapist Club, hoooooo!!!!

I hope The Escapist does decide to make its own Club(house), it could be pretty cool meeting up with some other Escapians in Home.

And it might make it a lot easier to organise competitions and contests, which would be very cool.

These contests are always gonna be exclusive to your machine anyway, even on multiplatform games. This will just make it a lot easier.

I got one, and I'm going to try hard to break this game. That's how you make betas interesting after all!

How do you break a social MMO?

Not neccisarily, after all there's a 360 clan on the Escapist (well, there's a huge thread about it) and I think it would be more appropriate just to set up friendly competitive games or Co-op gaming with some Escapians, not exactly full blown competitions with prizes at stake.

It doesn't need to be all business-y, it can be a fun get together for PS3 owners on the Escapist.

By being as antisocial as a racist 15 year old..... every time I find one in Home I cock slap him down a few pegs around 60 other people.... then they run back to their precious Xbox Club of solitary racist Ahole kids. KKK stopped having public displays because people started throwing fruit at them and yeling at the ignorant aholes, and after several years of the public ostracising racists we now have a black president. Home has the same ability to publicly embarass morons.... exept we will know your name and follow you "Home" from now on.

Dude, seriously, enough with that. As head Ps3 Fanboy I command you to at least be subtle about it.

Oh, you can do it. I've been in a few other MMO betas, and it's definitely possible. You just have to be patient.

Wrong. it has been proven over and over again that getting Qore does NOT get you into any betas of Home.

I know, thats what I just said. He got the Pacific Rift demo early because he subscribed to Quore, but it doesn't work the same way for Home.

Hmmm... you say that, but I'm pretty sure that I'm not subscribed to Quore, based on the fact that I don't even know what it is. Are you sure we can get it in Europe?

I'm fairly certain that if you downloaded Sony's Home Beta theme then you were entered into the drawing. The theme had a description to that effect. I got an invite and that's the only way that I can see that they'd even notice me outside of a random drawing of all player profiles.
