You know, I'd like it if Nintendo made more explicit, M-rated games. Perhaps the n word isn't quite what I had in mind, but hell, I'll take it if that means that the next mario game will have more gore than gears of g- er- war when you curbstomp the bad guys. Yeah, I know that it's user created, but maybe nintendo wants to be mature and give mario a pair of balls so his voice drops down to a tolerable pitch.

WAit, I'm confused, so do the players make the guys say different things they type in or something?

Or did someone at Nintendo, while working on this game, make this remark avaiable to teach to the folks of Crossing?

I'm confused.

They're japanese, they probably think it's just common every day slang- and with how much it gets used on TV and in music are they wrong?

Double standard. Mind you I don't think WHITE people should get to use it in conversation, but don't get your tits in a twist every time it pops up.

Were you offended by San Andreas too? I lost count of the N-bombs in that game. But it's still a fun game.

Haha! Honestly, if that sheep said that to me in-game, I would never stop laughing.

They should change the sheep to a black sheep and keep it in there-- I mean, honestly, does anyone find "that word" offensive anymore? It's been elevated to the status of a joke and even a compliment, almost completely separated from its roots as a racial slur.

Obviously I know some people are still offended by it, and that placing it in a game is just asking for trouble... but as it stands I don't plan on buying this new Animal Crossing. If they included that little bit, however... I might reconsider.

delete this thread! We all no about changeable content. It's an easter egg. Yeah, on mass scale media someone managed to sneak something in, congratz to them, hope they don't miss their job. If nothing else the implication of the thread title are simply a lie, if you brought this out in debate, someone would tear you a new ***hole.

Are you aloud to curse on these threads? I need to check the rules.

So this is just something someone named a character right? Well, I guess the developers aren't racist. I guess it's kind of like naming your character Fagballs or Titty Shepard if I may quote Yahtzee.

You know, you might have a point there... though, isn't Japan quite knowledgeable about American culture (like, more than most of the world...)?

who in their right mind would even consider something like this funny?

......

OK, I admit it, I pictured a sheep saying this and I cracked up. I also watch a lot of Boondocks so I'm desensitized to the word.

...I thought it was funny too. Really, though, it's not enough; you need other animals saying Jefe, Bro, Y'all, Oy Vey and so on to make it a marvelous land of stupid stereotype speech.

Somebody at Nintendo is unsubtle and didn't take precaution to keep his amusement limited to himself, that's all. Deliberate N-bombing would be more direct. The minute they start including it in official publishes, give the sheep red-lipped mouths, and add an 'r' is when we should get wound up.

Aren't we finding this a bit childish avoiding actually saying the word nigger? This puts human equality back years. If you're actually dedicated to ending racism and not just being politically correct then you'd say it. We've got to aim for the point where people will forget even if it could exist.

Don't believe me? Two people of equal talent attend a job interview. One white, one black. I reckon 90% of the time it makes sense to employ the black person because no-one will accuse you of racism and it's possible he can take you to court for not hiring him. Yet this means people are still making a decision based on colour.

It's the same with avoiding saying a word. In fact avoiding saying it strengthens the connotations and offence of a word. Your are prolonging the racism attached to it if you are sensitive about it. What's in a word? Only what you let it. Treat all people equally and realise words are just letters.

If you're offended and white, why? It's not aimed at you and it doesn't have to meet anything yet far more white people complain about the word. If you're black and offended it's also you're duty to ignore and remove the venom from some of the weaker stuff. There will be racism until people forget that their ever was. By laughing at these words we release the tension attached.

I don't avoid saying the P-Word (paddy). I don't avoid saying the CESM words (cheese eating surrender monkeys). What's so special about black people? They're equal.

What if they made the sheep african american?

I'm tempted to make a pun here. But out of fear of ban-hammerage, I shant. (I love that word)

I think it's a little silly how white people can't say it, but there are rappers who use it as a term of endearment to their friends. And I'm not trying to be racist or anything, it's just a thought I've got.

Wasn't it 'n*gger' with an 'a'? Black guys use that all the time.

What the hell is all the fuss about?! It's not like the people who made the game put that in there. It's not like a horde of melon-headed Animal Crossing characters dressed in KKK garb went around saying: "KILL THE N***ERS!".

Racism and people who make way too much of a fuss about 'near' racism can go to hell.

*I'm only blanking that out because the college computers won't allow me to cuss for some bloody stupid reason.

Animal Crossing Drops The N-Bomb

image

There aren't many things you can't say in this day and age but the N-bomb is certainly one of them, so it's more than a little odd that press copies of Nintendo's Animal Crossing: Wild World game would contain just that particular racial slur.

Copies of the game with all of the content unlocked were recently distributed to gaming sites in order to show how easy it is to move content from Animal Crossing: Wild World for the DS to Animal Crossing: City Folk for the Wii. Apparently, in order to unlock this content, Nintendo had someone play the game and then copied the saves for distribution to game writers. (Not me, sadly.)

It turns out that you can train the game's virtual residents to say all kinds of new and interesting words, and apparently someone at Nintendo thought it would be amusing to train a sheep named Baabara to greet the player with a hearty, "How are you, n---a?" The slur was first discovered by Stephen Totilo of MTV Multiplayer, and then confirmed by Kotaku's Brian Crecente. And that's not all: According to Crecente, Baabara peppers her conversation liberally with the word, saying things like, "I almost forgot about you, n---a," "So got any juicy gossip for me, n---a?" and "Just thinking about it gets me all excited, n---a."

This material won't show up in the retail version of the game, as the characters have to be trained by players to say things, but even so this is just wrong on so many levels that it makes my head swim. In this day and age, who in their right mind would even consider something like this funny? Admittedly, the Japanese culture allows for a lot of stuff that just don't fly on this side of the water, but this is utterly, incomprehensibly inappropriate. I think it's safe to say that Nintendo, and quite possibly the world, will be minus one would-be comedian in very short order.

As long as the sheep is black, it's perfectly ok for it to be saying those things (according to political correctness anyway.)

We keep it in the ghettos of the U.S., so the rest of the world doesn't know that we're just as backwards and racist as the rest of them.

That reminds me of a skit that was done on Mad TV in the 90's.
Bunch of white folks called the Ni**er family, it's the only way white folks can use it, even in comedy. (sorry for the triple post, too tired to multi quote this morning.)

Urrrrrrrrr it's user created it's not like Nintendo invented Racism in Animal Crossing, It's like when I met someone with a Swastika avatar on Mari Kart....Nintedo aren't Nazi's cause of that.

It is very fun on Animal Crossing to make animals betray their pre decided cuteness by making them inventively swear etc...I happened to get alot of obscene nicknames (non racist) because of this

Next Sony will be blamed for some kind of Racist Little Big Planet level

ahh, racism makes life so much more fun than it really is. Makes me sad when people say it will be gone by the 2012 elections. Fare thee well Racism, you brought me many a laugh.

This is one of the best features of Animal Crossing, me and my wife can make the animals say perverted stuff that my kids don't get but make me and her laugh when we play. For example I like to make them say "Me love you long" the kids think they are just being nice, while the wife will crack up if she see it.

Am I a bad person for finding this hilarious? And to the people that find the sheer mentioning of this slur horrifying... You should listen to male middle schoolers greet each other. That's where the fun really begins.

OOH! By all means, don't expose this content in a world where that word is splashed about like bathwater!
I absolutely hate the fact that people are so paranoid for their kids. It makes me sick that they have no exposure to the real world, yet when they do get it, it hits them like a breezeblock of pain!

Anywhoo, back on topic:
This is a ridiculous subject. The player trained the NPC to say that word through some way, either typing in the word to teach, or making his name the word.
The game didn't include that word in it's programmed list of goodies, the player decided to put it in, and post a picture of it, just to start a commotion.
I don't even think there's a discussion here. Good day!

EDIT: And if you look closely, it has the sproingy thing~~~~~~~ over the N. So quit whining and being butthurt.

Can this be real, I must be dreaming. I'm just flabagasted, why would Nintendo put a gansta sheep in any of their games?
