Rumor: PS4 Will Launch on November 21st

PS4 Release Date Ad

The British newspaper The Sun has released an advertisement with a supposed PS4 release date.

The holiday season is going to be a busy time for gamers this year. In addition to a slew of new Wii U titles coming out in time for Christmas, the Xbox One and PS4 have both been confirmed for releases that will position them for yuletide product placement. That being the case, both Microsoft and Sony have been a bit stingy concerning the exact release dates for both consoles. While Microsoft has confirmed the Xbox One for a November release, Sony has only given a vague "holiday 2013" release window. That being the case, a recent newspaper ad has now pegged the PS4 with a release date.

Appearing in The Sun, a popular newspaper in the UK, an ad for the PS4 has said the console will launch in the region on November 21st. The ad also states that the console will sell 349 pounds sterling, which matches the price point Sony had previously confirmed for the UK. While an advertisement in a newspaper is in no way an official confirmation, a November release would be an interesting move for Sony which has put considerable effort into countering the Xbox One on nearly every facet, from its price to the console's policy on used games. Releasing the PS4 in the same month could serve to further rob the Xbox One of any advantages it might have had if the PS4 had launched at a later date.

Isn't November just the defacto console release month?

Appearing in the Sun, a popular paper with exactly zero credibility and accuracy

Although they're a little better at inconsequential things like this, you just don't need to believe the stories about daisies giving people cancer and the bands of roaming immigrants who traverse Britain kidnapping children and the elderly

Beat me to the punchline. Pretty sure The Sun is a national ploy by middle class people to catch out thier readers at dinner parties. If they start citing from thier recent articles, they're not invited to the next meal.

I think Sony in general are simply being reactionary. Microsoft panics and makes a move, Sony saunters in, bitch slaps them, and then proceeds to steal the show.

This is the sun we're talking about. I wouldn't trust a thing in the rag.

Pretty much, i also refer to it as "COD month" as every COD game also comes out then.

If this is true, MS are going to have a hard time moving the Xbox one...

This paper has lied before, 50 its lying again for hype publicity.

The Sun is trash.

But at E3 quite a few of the multi-platform titles have November release dates, which would seem to indicate they planned it so both consoles will be out when these launch.

You could argue that they are just launching for XBOne and will be insta-released for PS4 later when it comes out, but the way Sony is being heavily competitive right now I don't see them give Microsoft much if any time being the solo console.

I wouldn't be surprised if the PS4 is released on purpose the day before XBOne just to stick it to Microsoft some more.

I wouldn't say that it being November is all that much of a shock.

But then again, this is in The Sun, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was false either.

That's my birthday! If this is true then I know what I'm buying :D

But then again, while November isn't too much of a stretch, I don't know how The Sun of all 'news'[1] outlets knows about it.

[1] I struggle to call that horseshit Mr. Murdoch gurgles out news

So it's (allegedly) releasing the day before Black Friday? God help us all.

How is it a rumor if its an advert in a newspaper? For those that dont know, the Sun is a daily newspaper in the UK. November sounds like a normal time to release a console. End of November - mid December. Not really a surprise.

It's weird, yes, also the Sun is pretty much not the best source for news out of the UK, but this isn't the kind of thing I would expect a company to lie about. Like, they're advertising somebody else' product, and they aren't slandering it. What is there to be gained? Its not like anyone is going to rush out to buy a copy of the Sun because they heard an ad was in it.

I'm guilty of this.

OT. If its an advert then i will undoubtedly believe it, if not color me skeptical though the its probably rough accurate.

Yep, this. The paper is so infamous as to be known all over Europe, for all the bad reasons.

Let us have a moment of preemptive silence for those poor souls working retail.

The 'Need Internet: No' followed by 'Can you play PS3 games: Yes PS3 Games Streamed online' might be a little confusing for Sun readers.

I wouldn't listen to the Sun to be honest, its like a printed version of Fox news except with more tits and mindless celebrity dribble.

If it is accurate though...........I think Satan needs a new pair of ice skates.

When I pre ordered my PS4 from a major UK retailer it'
said that the product was due to ship in November.

It was a comparison article, not an advertisement. Below that picture it also had an identical styled thing for the XBone as well, which just replaced the picture, price and the answers to the questions (plus the background was green instead of blue).

I doubt they are wrong though. To be honest, I thought I'd already seen it confirmed elsewhere for a November release already.

Pretty much. The WiiU Launched in November last year, and the XBone is definitely releasing this November. I do expect that the PS4 will launch a little after the XBone (So the XBone should be released a week or two ahead).

Good eye. "Yes PS3 games streamed online, but not PS3 discs." is what it says. Confusing yes. At the E3 they did say that system would be start some time in 2014 in the US. Not sure if the UK will be gain access around that time. When they mentioned the Sun I recall that paper you see at the supermarket checkout lines. You know the one that has a Kardishin on the cover every other week or a blurry picture of some celebrity dating a goat or something. None the less it's hard to deny if it's a full on advertisement. I'm not sure even Amazon has posted a date of sale on the pre-orders most of them just says Dec 31, 2013. A Thanksgiving release is probably idea as people get the majority of their Christmas shopping via Black Friday. (I prefer to do mine early) I'm sure that most places will push for pre-orders, no one wants a stampede for the systems during that time. Lines will be long enough as it is. The online orders are already filling up.

Two things to note/reinforce here:

1 - Don't listen to The Sun. Ever.
2 - This is probably based on the fact the release date of a game like Watch dogs is released on the 21st Nov in europe.

So, don't mean to rub it in escapistmag, but I think you'll find the rumoured release date you want is November 19th for the US. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Watch_Dogs *smugface*

This is the British release date. We don't have Thanksgiving, and Black Friday Sales are only beginning to spread over here. I wouldn't be surprised if it launches here on the 22nd, since British release dates are always Fridays. I suspect that the PS4 will launch on the Tuesday in America, since that is your default release day.

Regardless, both SOny and MS said their consoles are release at Christmas, so this news is not rumor at all. Its obvious.

Yeah. And not just the coming gen either. Didn't all 3 of the 7th gen consoles launch in November too? I'm sure 360 and PS3 did (05 and 06 respectively) and I think I picked up my daughter's Wii at least 6 weeks before Christmas.

And I know that the original Xbox launched in November. Though I couldn't tell you when the PS2 or the Gamecube hit store shelves. I didn't buy them until much much later than launch.

Thanksgiving is on the 28th and Black Friday is the day after. November 21 is the week before.

Of course I doubt that Thanksgiving is celebrated in the UK.

Around about where I'm expecting it, regardless of whether this is an official announcement or not.

I actually saw another site claiming a November 21st release date was rumored just a few days ago. So, I think this maybe legit.

Well, I would say that the release date maybe a shot at taking the wind out of Microsoft's sails, I don't think they are being as reactionary as some people think. I'm pretty sure there was never DRM or online requirements in the PS4, though they may have considered them. Which would explain why Microsoft is using them. I think this was just good planning on their part, though.

Also, it suddenly struck me how odd it is that two of the biggest console makers are an electronics company and a software company. Considering that Nintendo and Sega were once the top dogs. Nintendo still exists, but is seeming more niche these days.
