Rockstar May be Making PC Ports of Its Latest Games

A Rockstar job posting asked for "a talented graphics programmer to help bring our latest titles to the PC platform."

Rumors surrounding PC ports of popular Rockstar titles, such as Red Dead Redemption and the upcoming GTA V got a bit more credibility, when a job posting for "a talented graphics programmer to help bring our latest titles to the PC platform" popped up on Rockstar's official website. The posting has since been removed, but the team over at Rockstar Watch prove once again that the internet never forgets.

A partial capture of the posting is as follows:

"Rockstar Leeds are currently looking for a talented graphics programmer to help bring our latest titles to the PC platform. Working together with the other Rockstar studios, you will be responsible for maintaining the studio's uncompromising quality bar, delivering the highest quality PC experience possible."

While this part of the posting seems geared towards porting already released titles, such as Red Dead Redemption, in another section, it made mention of "working with skilled developers on Next Generation games," which points towards GTA V getting a release on Next-Gen consoles, including, of course, the PC.

Rockstar has typically released PC versions of its Grand Theft Auto games in the months following the console release, however, this time Rockstar has given no mention that a PC version of GTA V is in the works. Red Dead Redemption, which was released back in 2010, also never saw a PC version, despite pleas from fans.

GTA V releases this September for the Xbox 360 and PS3, and will feature three distinct protagonists that the player will switch between during the main campaign.

Sorry, by now I simply don't care anymore. There are too many new releases that take up all my time. Though still nice to hear for anyone that is still interested in those games...

I have never minded waiting a few months for a PC release of any of the GTA games, I'll happily wait a few months again if that means it will exist!

They'd better be or they'll have me to answer to! Grr. On the basis of that gameplay video I'm expecting to put aside my backlog and play my first GTA game in ages.

Surely it would be a foolish move to cut out a platform and all the sales that would go with it? It's not like a GTA game wouldn't shift on PC.

Oh god yes! RDR was one of the very few titles that completely and thoroughly pissed me off by its absence on PC.

...And GTA V goes without saying.

My body is ready.

Supposedly RDR was never released because of its messy code and the fact that it was programmed so bad it barely held together. Can any one confirm this rumour?

Knowing how bad GTA4 and LA Noire performed on pc I find that relatively easy to believe.

Will those ports include that steaming pile of crap that is GFWL?

I got Saints Row 2 in all's its buggy, poorly optimized glory instead of GTA4 because of it.

And I have never regretted it for a second.

Max Pain 3 on PC (which I have) did not use GFWL, so it would be a good chance that Rockstar has moved away from it. Their using their own online checking system.

Even putting aside their paranoia about piracy which leads them to cram in layers of DRM that make their games nearly unplayable, Rockstar's PC ports are just abysmal. The UI is always awful.

People mock and make a huge stink about Bethesda's PC UI being bad, but they manage to look like PC-pros compared to Rockstar.

Unless they improve upon their past PC attempts, I'm not interested. There's too many great PC games out there today, and too little time to waste some of it upon the inferior ports.

RDR will not get a pc port , they said so time and time again. And that the latest GTA would turn up on Pc was a give no? Not that i care since GTA4 did make me turn away from that series and 5 seems boring to me. But hey here is hoping RDR gets to Pc and i can pick it up when it hits the bargin bin.But i belive this was just a company short a worker and its no story behind it.

gave up on GTA since SA and very unlikely i will get the latest title as well. but good to hear that they do take pc gamers serious and want to make a proper port. they should just give it to valve. they know their stuff.

Do you remember how long it took Vice City to make the jump? I swear it was at least 18 months.

if Red Dead Redemption came out on PC i would buy the shit out of it ... again
what? .. oh come on my PS3 sits on its shelf gathering dust and i never got round to finishing RDR or any of my other PS3 games

i am interested in GTA5 but i am sorta bored of the whole man goes on a criminal rampage thing maybe if there was a female character in there and or if it went on sale on the PC

Steven Bogos:
Read Dead Redemption

Um... yeah. Minor, but you might want to fix that.

Otherwise, this is awesome news. I've always wanted to get RDR on my PC. Always been disappointed it was only on console since I switched to PC gaming a year or so ago.

Wouldn't it be awesome if this was an actual game? About a librarian with a grudge...

Thanks for the tip though! I too, have been really disappointed that this game saw no PC release, as it's seen such great reviews

I don't know why they'd make a PC port of RDR after so long. By now anyone that wants to play it has probably already played it. Still, if they kept the online in I'd pick up a copy for me and my buddy. The multiplayer was awesome until the community went to shit (as it inevitably does). Plus the mods could be awesome.

At this point though, especially after that latest gameplay vid, I'm more interested in a PC release of GTA V. All the numbered entries have hit the PC at some point, but I'd still like a confirmation. Hopefully before the console release so I don't drop money on one of those only to find out the best version was right around the corner.

I'd kind of like to see a PC release and kind of not because I can see the PC side are going to whine when it's not the best version.

Besides it's coming out on the other two consoles which are still cheap by now with a nice backlog of great games.

Ah, good to see my PC cousins might finally enjoy the greatness of Red Dead Redemption. I'm really happy for them. A friend of mine was bugging me for weeks with pleas to lend him my PS3 just for RDR. :D

Shadow-Phoenix:
I'd kind of like to see a PC release and kind of not mainly because the PC side of gamers are either ungrateful for the port or incredibly smug in seeing their version as the "best and only greatest version ever" so I'd most likely hope it just stays on the two consoles seeing as how the PC will be getting planetary annihilation and Star Citizen both of which are only PC to which consoles will never get to see the light of day so fairs fair.

Please don't use prejudice as an argument ever again. It never leads to something good.
Besides, you don't want us to get a good game, because we will get two good games, were one will be most likely too hardware demanding to be played on consoles properly and the other one is a old school rts, which never play good on consoles anyway. I hate you.

Edit: Just to clarify, as some people seem to misinterpret it: The last sentence is meant as a joke. Sorry, thought that was pretty obvious.

I hope whoever they hire is better at their job than whoever they hired for the IV port. *shudder*

Yes!

GTA V was the only reason I saw for getting a next gen console in the foreseeable future

They're gonna have to find another killed app if they wanna poach me now.

Okay, so let me get this straight.

You think it's "fair" that we shouldn't get a game that would work perfectly well on our platform, because you don't get two games that wouldn't fucking work on your platform anyway?

Makes sense to me!

Also, fuck off with your "hurf durf ungrateful" crap.

Why the hell should we buy a rushed out shitty port without proper PC support when they could have just put in a bit more work to make it better?

If we buy shitty ports we are telling the companies that shitty ports are a-okay and what we want.

They are not, there is nothing "ungrateful" about it, they don't port this shit for fucking charity, they do it to make money, and if they won't do it properly, then I'm not giving them any fucking money.

Frankly they're only going to earn more if they do this. I know plenty of people who are MUCH more inclined to buy on PC than console. Myself included.

Guess the AAA studios will finally be catching up to Indie Developers in terms of platform agility.

I will show my support to studios who at least put effort into making sure there is at least a windows version of their games.

Rockstar always said they wouldn't bring Red Dead Redemption to PC. But if this proves true, let me just say: I'LL BUY IT ROCKSTAR! I'LL FUCKING BUY IT!

...Oh.

Rockstar is still a thing?

After the mediocre Grand Theft Horse 4 and the unqualified disaster area joke on wheels that was GTA 4 and boring samey spinoffs I just stopped caring. None of them managed to get close to what GTAVC or GTASA brought to the table, and after 1 or 2 flops you'd think they would figure it out.

If they continue on their current trend, GTA5 is going to be about as good as Metroid Other M. Pretty, paper-thin and entirely soulless.

Yes but at that point I was in high school and had different things to worry about. :P

If its gonna be a shitty port i do not care.
I will certainly not buy full price, got burned far too often.

Would be happy if they would do it well but... well, i just feel like im too old to be that naive.

Max Payne 3 worked pretty well on my PC, should one expect GTA V to me more similar to it rather than GTA IV in terms of peformance?. I really do hope we'll get GTA V for PC, it is the only gaming device I own and I'll be sad if I don't get to play it X3.

Wait what?

It may not be your cup of tea but GTA IV sold insanely well, hardly a flop.

Yet what you offered to the table has done nothing either even with the very last line.

Captcha: How interesting, not very much I'd say.

fyi outward and direct personal hate isn't really tolerated here so I'd be wary if I were you.

Oh my yes this is exactly what we need on the Escapist, two people already quoting me and spouting direct insults without paying actual attention to the TOS of this forum, how clever indeed.

I also forgot this is the Escapist where anything negative no matter how tiny that is said about PC is just plain untrue/sarcasm.

Not sure I care too much about Red Dead Redemption anymore... I mean, the game would probably be sold at full price and is unlikely to have been improved upon all that much.

The game is already three years old and so is my interest in it. There are so many other games being released, and if they did release RDR for the PC, then I will judge the game as I would any other new game.

Let's imagine that RDR gets released at the same time Fallout 4 or a new TES game is released, how could is possibly hope to measure up to those?

Red dead redemption sounds interesting. But pre-orders are out of the question before it has been properly tested by serious reviewers. Terrible ports are not that wonderful.

Shadow-Phoenix:
direct insults

Oh look, another person that doesn't know what words mean.

See a direct insult would be me, directly insulting you, which does not happen anywhere in my post.

What I did do was tell you to fuck off (Not a direct insult) and call your argument crap (also not a direct insult)

If either of those are just TOO harsh for you, then might I suggest you go back to kindergarten or just stop living in the real world all together.

Heated arguments happen, especially when one party (you) comes directly into it with inflammatory and insulting rhetoric

Thing is, you did in fact insult ME, albeit indirectly, by implying that my refusal to buy an inferior product makes me "ungrateful" or smug.

But it's nice to see that rather than actually responding and defending your arguments, you resort to the good old internet battle stratagem known as: "Waaaaaah your curse words are OPPRESSING ME! I'm gonna go and tell the mods on you! But first let me make a semi snarky comment so I can feel like I won the discussion"

Class act.

They kind of missed the train by a few years. We've had better open-world games and the games market has significantly improved compared to 2010. Kinda think they will be losing cash on this one, but they can always blame it on piracy and further justify not making PC ports.
