Gamer Forges Police Documents to Recover MOBA Account

Dream Three Kingdoms Online title screen

A Chinese gamer is facing serious trouble for forging official government documents in an effort to regain control of his locked-out MOBA account.

For reasons unknown, a 24-year-old Chinese gamer named Zou recently found himself locked out of his Dream Three Kingdoms Online account. Being a reasonable, rational man, he contacted customer service to ask how he could reclaim his account. The customer service department apparently demanded proof of the iron-clad sort that he was who he claimed to be and suggested that he have the local security bureau provide a letter vouching for him.

Alas for poor Zou, he'd purchased the high-level account second-hand for a whopping $244, so he didn't have access to all the information he needed to prove that it was his. So he went to Plan B: He cooked up the required documentation himself.

He didn't do a very good job of his forgery, though, misspelling the name of the security bureau and also getting wrong the name of the relevant department. So when the gaming company received the letter, it contacted the real Nanpu Public Security Bureau, which determined that the documents were home-made and quickly tracked down and detained the unlucky MOBA fan.

Zou now faces charges of forging an official document and forging an official seal, and while the whole thing was obviously just a stupid idea, I'm not sure how likely it is that Chinese authorities will find it all harmlessly silly. My guess? Not very.

My guess is he gets money by writing spam/phising emails, what with the spelling mistakes and all.

This is the best he could come up with? Typo's and referencing the wrong department sounds phishy to me! You would think with doing this kind of thing that you would quad spell check it, do a lot of research and then try to scam them, instead of doing a rush job.

Then again, this is a kid who bought an account for over $200, so he is obviously into rushing.

I bet he is also the kind of player to bitch about the performance of his team but he is the anchor.

He'll likely be shipped off to the state-sanctioned WoW gold mines for 20 years of hard online labor.

Poor guy... WoW's probably not even his game. :(

Maybe they'll send him to the secondary wing where inmates are made to endlessly queue for League/DOTA games and are not allowed to click the accept button so it kicks everyone back to matchmaking after an agonising wait. There has to be SOME reason why that shit happens like clockwork dammit...

So wait... I baught his account? Second hand? For $244?

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...

Stupid bastard... Someone got $244 out of him and he got stuck getting screwed...

IF only he was in Europe he would be able to sue for his account or get the $244 back.

Seems like these MOBA's inspire a LOT of criminal activity. >.>

Just seems to be a lot of "(Insert MOBA Here) Player in trouble with the law" headlines.

Well frankly he should have put in the hard work and forged those documents properly played the game himself. I have no sympathy for him losing $200+, but hopefully he doesn't get locked up or forced to rebuild the Great Wall for his silly crime. He's still an idiot.

I might actually feel for this poor bastard if it wasn't for the misspellings. It's not even a matter of grammar. It's just that, if you're going to commit a federal crime, at least pay attention to what you're doing.

Chinese isn't English, misspelling isn't as stupendously moronic as it seems.

Also, $244 for a MOBA account? What the balls? A MOBA isn't a MMORPG or something else requiring a huge amount of time, at least not any that I've played.

it's kinda funny, how you have to contact your local security bureau for a game. if i'm locked out of an account, they tell me why i was locked out and fix it themselves, if anything's wrong with the account, they send me an e-mail instead of asking me to go to the local security bureau and fill out some papers for a game.

why do you have to prove who you are in a game? that should only matter when it comes to money and payment which most times no one cares unless someone didn't pay. forgery runs rampant in china, knock-off's of american and japanese stuff. even to the point they have to prove themselves for an online game, because no one believes them.

And this is why you never buy accounts or characters, people.

Newbie question: What does "MOBA" mean?

Honestly with the way chinese gaming works, it's possible he was saving money by buying it second hand like that >>

I want to frown upon that for being a stupid idea...
But I can't help but admire him in some way because that is so hardcore.

I'll give him about 1:4 odds that hell get a slap on the wrist.

But honestly, how stupid do you have to be to screw up faking chines documents? Do your homeword, learn what the names are, practice the stamp. You can forge an official chinese seal with an exacto knife, some ink and a potato.

Either you're trolling, or the irony here is absolutely delicious.

Yes, that is what any calm and rational person would do. But then again a calm and rational person wouldn't be forging documents for a game. so you get the point.
We should not ask why are criminals stupid but rather why are stupid criminals.

Multiplayer Online Battle Arena.
it's the League of Legend "genre"
(which really just encompasses games that are completely indistinguishable from LoL,
just like brown military shooters are all the same [seriously])
having explained that while throwing in a good amount of bias as well I can finally respond to the actual topic with:
WHAT THE HELL. this is china we're talking about here, which seems to be a bit harsher when it comes to such things. in fact, this sounds almost suicidal. also buying a moba account for $244. oh well.

Oohohoh, and the anal-retentive, obsessive-compulsive CHUDs come out of the woodwork. Ladies and gentlemen, the internet.

No he's pointing out the insane irony of you berating someone for their misspellings while you spell like a toddler with paintbrush lodged in it's skull.

OT: This is why you don't buy online accounts people.
