DuckTales: Remastered Visits The Himalayas In New Trailer

Capcom has unveiled a new trailer for the upcoming DuckTales: Remastered which features footage of the game's "Himalayas" level and narration courtesy Launchpad McQuack.

DuckTales: Remastered, as its title suggests, is a modern remake of Capcom's classic NES-era platformer DuckTales. Development on the title is being handled by the neo-retro savants at WayForward Technologies (the same people responsible for Contra 4 and Double Dragon Neon). In short, there's many reasons to be excited for this game.

That said, before I started writing up this story, there was a bit of conflict here at Escapist HQ. Some people (read: myself) see the colorful, jovial aesthetics in DuckTales: Remastered as a solid, modern recreation of the 8-bit Disney-style sprite work of its source material.

Other, less attractive Escapist writers see this latest trailer as a bit too glossy. A bit too shiny. It's almost as if this game had been animated in Flash, before making the leap to the various modern gaming platforms.

Here's where you come in: Watch that trailer above, then decide who you side with, myself or my obviously wrong colleagues. Bonus points if you can provide an eloquent argument backing your choice. Comments are below, you know what to do.

I side with your obviously wrong colleagues, it does almost look as if it had been animated in flash in that trailer.

Hmm...

You're both wrong.

The problem is that the characters are flat, unshaded sprites (which look great), and the background is made up of shaded 3d objects (which also look pretty good). Unfortunately these two styles don't gel at all.

I don't see any reason why they didn't use hand-drawn or hand-painted environments like the gorgeous Rayman Origins. Stupid.

Looks fine to me. Reminds me of SNES.

BUBBA DUCK! :does a little happy dance:

Didn't expect to see him in the game. Maybe he'll make the area less annoying.

Edit: Removed incorrect information about our art process.

Holy crap, I just remembered the OTHER Duck Tales game! The one for Amiga 500 and probably some other platform a well, but holy hell was it fun! A lot more varied than the NES Duck Tales and if it weren't for the moon level of the NES game, I would probably hold the Amiga game in higher regard. Did anyone else play that?

dakkster, you're thinking of DuckTales: The Quest for Gold. I had it for PC. It was a lot more interesting than the NES game, but a lot less fun.

Yes I remember it, now I need to find a copy of it. Thanks -_-
