The Bureau's Agent Cole Embarks Upon "The Chase"

The Bureau's Agent Cole Embarks Upon "The Chase"

The tale of Agent Cole appears to have come to an unhappy ending.

A few days ago, the internet decided the fate of Ennis Cole - Dominic Monaghan of Lord of the Rings and Lost fame, for those of you struggling with a "that guy looks familiar" itch - an agent of The Bureau who, in the wake of unbearable loss, opted for the bottle and not the gun. The video hinted that Cole's resignation was irrevocable, although that suggestion was betrayed somewhat by the "continue the chase" tagline; and sure enough, despite his decision, the sounding alarm led Cole to take the field once more.

It doesn't look like Cole's last mission for The Bureau is going to end on a positive note (although I suppose that wasn't likely anyway) but given the game's conspiratorial bent, perhaps all is not as it appears. Maybe this wasn't actually an incursion at all, but a Bureau retirement party; after all, Cole implies in the previous video that his knowledge of the truth could be problematic, and nothing seals lips like two in the head. Not great for morale, but tough times call for tough measures.

The Bureau: XCom Declassified comes out on August 20 for the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and PC.

Two? I only heard one
what aren't you telling us Mr Chalk?

i feel sad on how much money they are wasting on marketing this game.

i might be pleasantly suprised by it when it comes out, but until i am proven otherwise i think this game will blow so much it might leave our orbit and memories in a matter of minutes.

killing yourself isnt what it used to be...

23rd of august id D day for this game. Then we shall see if it's a good game and if it's a good X-com game.

This might actually become one of my favourite franchises if they do it right and capture that feel that basically has been gone from the gaming scene for almost the better part of a decade. The old Squad Tactical Shooter might rise again.

It's the old saying, "Two in the head, you know he's dead." Just playing on the idea that if it is a Bureau retirement party, they'll make sure.

God, I remember those days.

Of course, now we just put them on ice. Much less messy. I still visit and chat with my old partner Tim when I grab a beer at the end of day. Not that he can hear me, of course, being frozen and all...

You just have to love how they managed to out-cliche a franchise about an all inclusive defense force that can compete with GI Joe and captain planet. They turned a dated, unused cliche that actually seems fresh in this day and age into a modern cliche of conspiracy and "America fuck yeah" that's already been run so far into the ground by every military shooter ever to the point of parody.

I have to really wonder who thinks this game will turn out well. 7 years of development hell, off and on development, clueless developers who get irritated the moment you ask about their game, and constant scrapping and rebuilding of the game. This is the same crap that doomed duke nukem and Aliens Colonial Marines.

I even vaguely remember a clueless quote somewhere where they praise Mass Effect and imply their game will be great because it has mechanics from a great game. I have to really wonder if anyone has any sort of hope for this game.

Actually a lot of previews said it's quite fun and feels like an a more hectic XCOM game.

And Aliens: Colonial Marines was a "sure thing" when people saw the videos. Then the scandal happened.

Previews are as helpful as going to a fortune teller and asking for lottery numbers. Until its released and we see the final game, we can't point to level demos when in this very year we had a big stink over them doing their job, making the game look good.

Um... Aliens never had a hands on preview, where as The Bureaus has had hands on gameplay. I think you want the game to suck now... I am not saying it will be good, but considering journalists have played it and for the most part liked it. I think this is a different situation than Aliens.

The reason aliens was hated because they had levels that were meant to do the marketing. To make the game look good, better than it actually was. You can easily make preview demos that make it look "omg awesome" and then release a game that doesn't match up.

In fact, there was actually instances of preview demos being better than the actual game. Simcity pointed this out this very year.

Again, not what he's talking about. Colonial Marines was not hands-on, so it's not a comparison worth making. They showed some scripted gameplay that no one was playing and called it a preview. People have actually played The Bureau.

And yeah, god forbid that demos and previews showcase the more interesting parts of the game.

The reason aliens was hated is because of their outright deception as to the state of the game. Things that were shown were cut out, other things were edited or removed. It seemed that the game's release actually made the game [i]worse[/], as you said. Problem is all we got with Aliens was something that looked good, not "felt" good. This does not seem(AHAHAHA SELF-CONTRADICTING NONSENSE) to be the case with this game.

Either way, don't mind me.

CAPTCHA: kiss me
Later.

PC Gamer has a video with 9 minutes of opening gameplay. It is honestly looking pretty good to me. Not extraordinary, as it's only the first 9 minutes, but it looks like it could have a compelling story and the gameplay looks enjoyable. So far, that has me a lot more attracted to the game than these live action shorts. As a gamer, I just care about the game. If it's not gameplay footage, who cares. That seems to be the only type of marketing I get attracted to. Which is probably why I pre-ordered Aliens: Colonial Marines. But I'm not interested in that debate any more... not that it's much of a debate.
