Monster Hunter 4 Lets You Play With Link, Mario, And Luigi

In a special Nintendo crossover, Monster Hunter 4 will feature Link, Mario, and Luigi outfits, as well as Link's Master Sword and Hylian shield.

In a special Monster Hunter-themed Nintendo direct, Japanese gaming giant Nintendo announced a very special crossover for Capcom's upcoming Monster Hunter 4 for the 3DS. Three of Nintendo's most recognizable mascots: Link from The Legend of Zelda and the Mario series' Mario and Luigi, will show up in the new Capcom RPG, in the form of special unlockable costumes.

Mario and Luigi will be available as costumes for the Felynes, Monster Hunter's cat-like NPC race, while Link's infamous green cap and tunic will be an unlockable outfit for the player character. Link's signature Master Sword and Hylian Shield will be available as a sword and shield weapon, and a Zelda-themed bow will be available for long range attackers. Check out some images of the costumes in action below:

Additionally, Capcom also showed a Congalala growing after eating what appeared to be a Super Mushroom. The Mario and Luigi costumes will be available through 7-11 stores throughout Japan, with no word on how (or even if) they will be available in America. It wasn't revealed how the Link set would be made available, but we're possibly looking at paid DLC here.

Monster Hunter 4 comes out for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan just under a week. There's still no word on a US release date.

...That...that...THAT IS FUCKING AWESOME! Those felynes look cute as fuck, but I betcha the weapons arean't going to be that strong. Are they even separate weapons and not just a cosmetic items? Not really sure, they might be beginners items but who knows, maybe you can upgrade them?

I'm thinking they'll be beginners items however, but a little bit overpowered.

Haven't played Monster Hunter, so forgive my ignorance, but that.......thing wearing the Mario clothes is nightmare fuel.

Is it just me or does the proportion of the hats doesn't look right on the Felynes.
Either way it's pretty cool but I don't used the sword and shield in the game (I was more of a lance and shielf user since I prefer to block then to evade the monster attacks).

I don't use sword and shield, but I would be willing to try it with that setup. Give me the big goron hammer and I'll be thrilled though.

Hopefully this makes it to Europe...

Let me guess, event only. In Japan.

That certainly sparks my interest, though I never played Monster Hunter before, if it is available at the get go I may buy it for the Linkness. Though I always feel bad buying a game in a series I haven't played before purely because it now includes something I love.

Then again, it looks like a skin made to actually be Link, that's pretty hard to ignore.

I wouldn't count it out yet, after all, Zelda games are more popular in western territories than in Japan(or at least they sell better), plus you have lots of idiots like me who may buy the game just because of the Link skin. They wouldn't miss an opportunity like that.
