My post wasn't to defend, as much as point out, by way of satire, the inappropriateness of comparing consoles on an 'all things being equal' basis, when they've been engineered to different design considerations. See also: bidet v. toilet. I'm essentially platform agnostic. |

Because if we don't complain our favorite companies feelings might be hurt? shit I don't know, to me every moment debating is a moment I spend pissing of 2/3rds of the gaming community, and since my life goal is 'piss off the world' it helps speed up that goal. |

2011? thats two years away! also I know this is going to have some shitty "Trade in your Wii and the only games you brought for it for the new one" time to stock up on Shovelware. |

Have you seen a Bluray film - Brag away, I've got loads of them, they're amazing. Maybe you need glasses.

That "sad format" was the one that made Universal Studios turn around after saying "No we won't support this format." to "We never said anything of the sort, Blu-Ray is better." If anything I'd have to say that HD-DVDs seemed to have been the sadder format having lost the format war. |
Pulitzer Laureate Posts: 861 Joined: 2 Apr 2008 | I'm convinced Sony is on to something. It's pricing is a method of idiot-proofing the console. I listen to people (read: Xbox owners) blather on about the PS3 having "no good titles", and doing so with a straight face. To understand where I'm coming from, imagine someone stood in front of a Ferrari, a Royle's Royce and the Beugati Veron and announcing, in a thick Southern Drawl from the back of his Chevvy Pickup, that Europeans can't make good cars. To claim the PS3 has no good games is so painfully retarded that it tears a small hole in the universe. LittleBigPlanet alone is a reason to own the PS3, just as you could buy a Wii solely for Wii Sports, let alone the other top titles. The PS3, in fact, has PLENTY of great titles! It didn't have many good games AT FIRST, but the PS3 has actually been around quite a while now, and sticking your fingers in your ears and claiming they only have 5 games to choose from does not make it so. The slack-jawed morons guilty of the above stupidity will no doubt accuse me of fanboyism, but I can't find a 360 worth buying the console for. Xbox has some tremendously shit games (Halo 3), and some tremendously FUN games (Gears 2), but there's nothing that goes that little bit further - nothing that says "I am the reason you bought this console". If someone where to give me a 360 for free, I could (and would) most certainly have a great time playing on it, but I just don't see the console ever convincing me to buy it; especially not as the PS3 has already 'won' this particular arms-race from my perspective - it was a choice of buying the PS3 or the 360, and I went with the PS3. People too stupid to accept the PS3 has more games than you can count on one hand are terrified of the "all in" price of the console. They are comforted by the 'cheap' 360, and happily fork out money over and over until they paid more than what the PS3 would have cost. Sony is keeping stupid out by scaring them off. Well done, Sony! And as a final note; if you want to spend £500 on a 360, good luck to you. I am someone who hates 'extras', so the PS3's approach of putting everything you'll ever need in at the start suits me fine. I realise the 360 is better value if you know you'll never want / need Blue Ray / HDMI / Wireless, etc, but I'd rather have it and not need it than need it and not have it. |

Its called grasping at straws. The PS3 has been one of the largest failures in Sony's history. It is a good machine, but has been marketed and managed very poorly. And a lack of/loss of exclusives goes with this. I also like how everybody (Sony, media, politicians) skew/stretch the facts to make themselves look better. Like the little table at the top on the OP. Says you have to pay for a HD on the Xbox, well you do, for a larger one. Comes with a 20GB model (better than Wii). Touts Blue Ray (whoptie shit), Xbox has Netflix. And they don't mention backwards compatibility, because they don't have it, but the other 2 consoles do. Face it Sony, you handled this new console poorly, too late to whine about it now. And to the poster above me talking about exclusives and one that would cause you to buy a console, that is all up to your opinion, or more generally, the opinion of the gamer. PS3 has LBP and Resistance and... MGS4 (to be released on Xbox, maybe), they lost DMC (mistake) and they lost FF (HUGE Mistake). Xbox has Mass Effect, Gears, Halo Franchise (don't care for it myself, but many a console has been bought for it), Left 4 Dead, Fable 2, Dead Rising, Ninja Gaiden, and Condemned to mention some of the "big" ones. I have no hate for the PS3, I love all gaming platforms, but from a buisness standpoint, the PS3 was a massive failure. Even more so when you consider the success of the PS2 and that is almost outsold the PS3 this holiday. For me, I am 30+ with a high paying job and a very understanding wife, so I can afford to buy (and am allowed to buy) whatever toys I like. I see no reason for me to buy a PS3, yet. I have no doubt that I would enjoy Resistance and LBP just looks like it would get old very quickly, but it does look interesting. After they lost FF13, God of War is the only title that I am saying "maybe" to a PS3. I have 3 friends with both PS3 and Xbox, and they game almost exclusivly on the Xbox. If you have fun on your PS3, more power to ya. But those exclusives don't appeal to every gamer. And to many, are not worth buying a console over. |

Actually you forgot a DVD movie for 20 bucks. That makes the 360 package 429,97. |

The argument myself and my friends have all used on this one is "Who doesn't own a PS2?" All of my friends that own gaming consoles own a PS2. Some own a PS3 as well, some own a 360 as well. All have a PS2. We can already play PS2 games; we don't need that ability again. |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 2901 Joined: 3 Jan 2008 | I like my PS3, I like Sony, but even I have to admit wtf where they thinking with Console Emulation! Backwards Compatibility would bring in more sales. Period. Though no doubt 90% of fuckheads would still scream that it was a 'Cop out' or turn it around. I hear everyone say the PS3 was 'A colossal failure" No it aint, do you know what was a failure? the Dreamcast, but most Sega fans can't get that through their skull either. 20 MILLION is not a god damn Failure otherwise Nintendo have been failing at existence for a long long time, and the old Xbox was a failure to. Seriously think about what a failure really is, the PS3 is not a failure, Blu-Ray won the format war to. tl;dr? PS3 aint a failure stop acting like 5 year olds. |

Yes, I own a PS2, you are aboslutly correct, the vast majority of gamers do, but a next gen console should be an upgrade to your existing console (meaning you can get rid of it). I got rid of my Xbox when I got a 360, because I could play all my Xbox games on it. I got rid of my Gamecube when I got a Wii. I can't get rid of my PS2 if I get a PS3 and that is extremely short sighted of Sony. Well, not really short sighted, but just touts the failure of the PS3, the PS2 is amost outselling their next gen console. If the PS3 had backwards compatibility, the PS3 sales might go up and PS2 might go down. They sacrificed the core intent of their device, games. I don't think anyone will argue that the PS2 is the best console of our time (so far), so why if you make a gaming console would you exclude that HUGE archive of great games (I know, it is to save money, but it has been a huge factor as to why I have not bought a PS3, I'm not having a PS2 and a PS3 hooked up at the same time, it is pants-on-head retarded). If the PS3 fans are going to tout that it is an all-inclusive console (Blu-ray, Wi-Fi, HD, tits and Fire), you are forgeting the most important inclusion... a generation worth of games. |

Their current version of PS3's sitting on the shelf are not backwards compatible. There is console version that was, but it has been taken of the market. EDIT: and SoC is one of my favorite games of all time. |

nope, i think they are doing that. As the Wii and 360 are doing better than the PS3, Sony seem to be tarnishing their competitors in any way they can think of to try and get people to buy their console instead of their competitors. |

I will consent that "colossal" failure is inaccurate, but Failure for sure. Sony had the most popular console in the word (PS2) by a factor of about 8:1 in sales worldwide. They followed it up by a botched release of the PS3. Not only that, but they allowed thier biggest competitor to get to the market a year in advance, horrible (of coarse MS kinda shot themselves in the foot with this and released questionable hardwear that liked to RROD, but they at lease came up to the plate and extened the factory warntee to 3 years). It allowed them to entrentch themselves before they could even fight. The president of Sony Entertainment was fired over the PS3 launch debocle. Their own console is almost beating it in sales. A colossal failure, no, but if you are a Sony exec and you look at the PS2, you would call the PS3 a failure, for now. This gen of consoles is going to be around for a good long while, so Sony has a lot of time to catch up some ground. LBP was a good step, but it has been marred with so much controversy now that for their one step forward they may have taken two steps back (the song lyrics and deleting user created content for example). |

Like what? As far as I know both of the other present-generation don't have much to offer; |
Paperboy Posts: 31 Joined: 3 Apr 2008 | All the gripes Sony has for the XBox this time around are the same ones that Microsoft had for the PlayStation 2 last generation. Who won that war? Sony did. This time around, it's all in reverse. Sony's touting all their hardware splendor while knocking XBox for what they don't have. Who is winning? XBox 360. Why? It's all about software when it comes to good consoles and that's what Sony lacks. Little Big Planet is fine (it's ONLY on the PS3, which is definitely a plus for them), but what else is there that is truly good for the PS3 that can't be found on any other systems? One giant reason why the PS3 sells AT ALL is the fact that they run Blu-Ray. I've talked to several, real-life, non-Internet people who have bought the system for that reason only. "May as well get the PS3 because it can play games, too." The 360 is a gaming console first and the rest is secondary. A good secondary, I might add. Anyone who gives a crap about console gaming will have the 360 and not the PS3. ..or you'll get the Wii, but you have to be five-years old or a very, very nervous parent who can barely get the grasp of Sonic the Hedgehog. |

Oh wow really that a god damn fact now is it? I don't own any blu-ray movies and I can point to pretty much every PS3 owner on this damn bored and say they brought it for the games, stop living in the past it has PLENTY of Exclusive and great games, The exclusive list for the 360 isn't that good. What makes the 360 SUCH a great Gaming Console over the PS3? Is it the failure rate? the shitty community that I have ever had the misfortune of communicating with that I actually had to pay MONEY to use, the endless sea of FPS's and mediocre RPGs? Get Real! Multi-Console does not mean it counts for 360 and not for PS3, infact i'm not even sure why I god damn feel so careful when I list games for the PS3, I allways feel myself listing the exclusives, of which there are plenty. Face it that is an illogical comment blu-Ray is nothing more than a format with increased storage space and crisper graphics. So stop, thats enough of this bullshit! The damn 360 is not any better just because it got a year head start, it's not any better because it has a larger install base, by that logic the Wii is THE gaming console, and the PS2 is the machine of KINGS! You got any damn proof besides "In the beginning like every freaking console before it there weren't alot of games on launch"? as for the increased sales, ask yourself? how many people brought a 360 just because it was released early? huh? I know quite a few , it wasn't price it wasn't microsoft being better, it's because thats all that was out. maybe i'm just talking out of my Multi-Console owning ass, but enough is enough of this bullcrap! EDIT: and what about the PS2! It was a DVD player, does that mean it made you cared about console gaming you got a gamecube? isn't a 360 a DVD player, with an Extra HD-DVD, which by the way is a discontinued format, that you have to pay money for? |

Gone Gonzo Posts: 1010 Joined: 28 Jul 2008 | I agree fully. I just got a Xbox 360 to break my cycle of PC only gaming. It was used and the total tally is coming up to over $500. I wish I had just got a PS3. My high-end gaming PC cost $550 (used) and I got $350 from selling my old computer. So in short, Xbox 360 is not a good idea if you want cheaper and less fucking around with endless add-ons and the Xbox anal-rape experience, which makes me tear my hair out in a rage. Whoever said PC's are complicated and require lots of upgrading while 360's have none of that obviously had their head up their ass. Why didn't I get a PS3!?! :'( Also, now I have to miss Killzone 2 for Halo 3, which was about 3 hours long on Normal difficulty, with a buddy. |

Don't use blanket statements, because you are applying that to all 360 games. Bioshock, Fallout 3, HL2, Portal, and about 500 other games. I'm not saying MurmurTwins isn't a gerk, just that you are one too. |

I'm sorry I got so pissed off, I was tired, but my arguments still stand. What makes it the 'Console for Gamers' that the PS3 doesn't bring? And see You list Multi-Console games, why is it they automatically count for the 360 but not the PS3 to people? |

True, $600 isn't nothing. And i try to forget it. I really do. It just annoys me how Sony kinda back stabbed their fans. Like with Nintendo Fans, The PS3 doesn't have what it used to have more than shooters; RPGS. JRPG to be more specific. While it does have a few, some were ports of the 360 version. Now they focus mostly on shooters. Trying to compete with Microsoft when it comes to shooters. This Generation of gaming isn't turning out to be a good one. So far, it seems that Microsoft is the only one doing it right. That's my opinion on it at least. |
