Rumor: Dark Matter Studio May Not Exist Any More

An external company may be working on the game's ending.

If you've been following the Dark Matter fiasco, you may be wondering how InterWave Studios, the company behind the bodge job, intends to end its game. The answer, at least according to Gamasutra sources, is: nope, nobody home but us management. InterWave's development team got canned sometime between July and August, and only two management staff are left to keep the studio ticking over.

It's possible another company may be working on the game's ending, even without the original team. However it's difficult to see why anyone would want to, bearing in mind that the vendors which were handling sales have pulled out. GOG's offering cash back to anyone who bought it before October 21st, but Steam's still awaiting "a patch" to resolve the situation. Maybe publisher Iceberg and the tattered remnants of InterWave want to keep on Valve's good side, but without cash - remember, this all started because InterWave's Kickstarter raised about 12% of its funding goal - it's difficult to see what's in it for the as yet unnamed external studio.

"We are working to offer a more conclusive and satisfying ending to the game as we speak and expect a fix to appear as soon we are able to," said Erik Schreuder, CEO of Iceberg Interactive, Dark Matter's publisher. Best of luck to him. Sisyphus had an easier job than that.

They've lied so hard,
And gone too far,
But in the end,
It doesn't even Matter

Don't lie, we all know that a certain Youtube personality killed them in their sleep and ate their hearts.

But who?! There are so many suspects.

STAHP IT!

OT:Too bad, the premise was interesting and I think the original team could have done the game great justice.

But, I thought this was going to be episodic?!

The name begins with a P or T, does it not?

Also I am not surprised if this rumor is actually true.

And rightly so, I'd say.

It was their fault to begin with that they decided to handle the failed kickstarter so horrendously stupid. Other, more competent, individuals tend to take a step back and examine everything, and then try again with a more sleeker, fresh campaign. I'm damn well sure there was some fatty bits that were completely unnecessary to the game that could of been cut away.

Then, instead of doing what other failed projects have done, when they haven't started up another campaign, and just do a "paid beta" release with the promise of additional content, they say "Screw them and those interested in our game, we'll rip 'em all off by releasing a game that is actually unfinished, but we won't tell them that."

And before anyone brings up the "EPISODIC!!!" part, no. They haven't announced any intentions whatsoever to release the game as an episodic title before release, and have only waited until afterwords that they got their arses torn open wider than Moby Dick's maw, to throw out such a weak excuse. I mean hell, they didn't even inform backers of their intentions to do so on their own project.

I do feel bad for those who lost their jobs though cause of the idiocy of the management.

Exterminas:

Indeed, episodic lies, telling hwo the sham unfolded. Now, it you comment isn't sarcastic, it was never an "episodic" game, that was just made up shit they came up with to keep on hold people raging over how the game was incomplete, which didn't really seem to work.

Exterminas:
But, I thought this was going to be episodic?!

That was one of several stories they came up with while trying to cover their arse when they got found out.

The fact is, as reported here, and in other places, that the entire staff of InterWave (apart from 2) were fired before August, WELL before this game came out.

You don't do that if you're about to start working on Episode 2.

Also nowhere in-game does it say that it's a first episode, and that end screen didn't say "To be Continued"
