Internet Explorer Goes Anime With a Magical Girl Transformation

Inori Aizawa Internet Explorer Anime

Inori Aizawa is the new mascot for Internet Explorer 11.

With the launch of Internet Explorer 11, Microsoft Singapore introduced an official mascot, Inori Aizawa, an original anime character who fights "the dark side of the internet." Inori hits the anime checklist with magical girl transformation scene and cutesy personality. Inori's transformation, both magical and otherwise, will take her from "a ragtag past to a modern, attractive and powerful young lady" -- much how Internet Explorer hopes it has emerged from its painful past.

Internet Explorer posted a short animation on YouTube featuring the anime character fighting robots. Inori will be featured at Anime Festival Asia in Singapore this weekend. On the character's Facebook page, she is characterized as someone who "used to be a clumsy, slow and awkward girl" and has since matured, making her sound like the run-of-the-mill anime heroine. Collateral Damage Studios, a local art group, created Inori after seeing personifications of web browsers that did not include Internet Explorer. The group's concept for Inori was "redemption."

"We don't love Internet Explorer in the past," the group wrote on its website. "It is bulky, slow... Within our research, we learnt that [redemption] is the theme for the latest IE10 campaign. They had grown up to be better and perhaps we should give them a chance."

A picture of Inori debuted on Facebook on May 13 and had about 400 likes two days later. Other Facebook accounts, such as Anime Festival Asia, shared the picture and received several hundred additional likes. This led to a partnership with Microsoft Singapore as it adopted the character.

If you've been entranced by the moe, you can download the Inori version of Internet Explorer here. Download links will be available shortly. If Internet Explorer is not already your default browser, you will make her cry.

Won't stop me from using Firefox, I still have nightmares about I.E.

She's pretty cool but I still prefer Chrome, it's less cluttered.

What the frell did I just see????????

Also, I wonder if the robots were... CHROME... plated?

So, they realised that their official OS-tans are popular in the west as well? Took them long enough but....I'll just wait for the FF add-on for this.

I was first introduced to the idea of tans via 4chan - heck, I look very much like /tg/tan IRL...

still, for an OS-tan its... ok

but she didn't lag as much as the real thing

Eh, I prefer Chrome-tan's strippy socks.

Anyways, I think it says something when the only person I know who uses IE uses it for porn sites. >.>

Why? Why the Wilhelm scream!?

I wonder how long it takes until someone posts a stuttering, glitchy version of this video.

It doesn't help the problem of IE looking and performing like shit compared to the other browsers though unfortunately.

Was she attacking the robots (spam-bots?) with a blue screen of death?

...Well...This is new.
Just hope they put as much thought into actually improving the program.

Use my favorite form of media all you want. It still won't make your browser any better.

She's using IE shields to defend herself and fight off robots, but isn't IE the easiest to exploit browser there is? I think it would be more appropriate if her shield instantly broke and she died.

Actually, it's not really new at all. "Moefication" as they called it back then of operating systems and browsers was really big on 2chan in like 2006.

You can read about the OS-tan family on wiki-tan's site, or about moe anthropomorphism in general.

They should have had the robots with Google Chrome and "all your data belongs to us" on them.

I still use IE, I cannot really ever see myself usng any other browser

Oh, look, an updated OS-tan!

Yeah, still sticking to Firefox, thank you very much. No amount of Moe will ever convince me to switch back to IE. I'd be much more interested in proofs that show that Microsoft's browser has become airtight and streamlined, but I won't hold my breath.

Well, I had a good laugh....

And I can imagine what the robots were supposed to represent => malware, worms, viruses and so on...

Anyway a anime girl doesn't make the product any better....

Does she share stories about her various adventures with her American nerd friend NSA-san?

I've only used Internet Explorer to download Firefox, IE therefor would be the unpopular girl, and Firefox and Chrome would be equally attractive women with Chrome being fitter and Firefox being smarter.

"fight the darkside of the internet"

....an internet explore themed anime girl that transformation and surfs the web.......i think she is the darkside of the internet.

Unless the viruses have tentacles, she hasn't reached the dark side of anything yet.

How does she fight 4chan anyway?

I don't know about you... but didn't that big evil robot in the end look sorta... foxish?

That made me laugh.

Ironically, it's because IE allowed you to do so much more than the other browsers that it was so easily exploited. Firefox was a much dumber program, with fewer ways to crack it, which is what made it better to use when it first came out.

Now and days, if Firefox gives me issues, I still go to IE in order to get a site uploaded. I believe it's still the "smartest" browser.

I would contend that Inori-chan is not really moe. Although now I've called her Inori-chan that might be invalid.

I enjoy the fact that she has her own version of the browser, presumably with her face and chiibi pics of her plastered everywhere. We use IE at work (alongside her nemesis Gougeru Kuroumu) so I'll probably get the Inori version for use there ^^

Ok, it seen even a robot can make a wilhelm scream!

Wait, she was fighting "the dark side of the internet"? If that were truly the case, the foes would of been must darker than that!!

Was there already a rule 34 for web browsers before this?

As cool as a little vid it is, I'm still not fond of the browser. I wouldn't mind seeing more short films like this for the other systems. I wonder how cool that would be.

What a missed opportunity! No tentacle monster with a Chrome logo on it.

I'll stick to Firefox.

I might try IE again and compare the two when they feature an add on for adb... y'know, I bet mentioning the primary benefit of one of Chrome's most popular free extensions would probably get a person reported/banned in here. Anyone willing to conduct a censorship test?

IE has gotten much better with later iterations. IE 11 (On Win 8.1) is blistering and genuinely pretty damned good. For all the complaints, I should mention I have about 100 tabs open right now (screenshots if you really want) and it's not missing a beat. Development tools (since I am one) are top notch and as something that should scare you, it actually does really damned well in the speed category, especially with GPU boosting (enabled by default).

So yeah, IE is better than you remember.

That big robot at the end kinda looks like it has a fox head. A bit of a stretch, I admit, but the ears match pretty well.

As much as I love OS girls, this isn't enough to convince me to use IE over Firefox. :\
