Titanfall Devs Reveal New "Ogre" and "Stryder" Titans At VGX

The Ogre is a heavily armored, but slower alternative to the standard Titan, while the Stryder is faster, but weaker

Titanfall developers Respawn Entertainment dropped some new information relating to its hotly anticipated shooter at this year's VGX. The first trailer, which you can see to the right, takes the form of an advertisement from "Hammond Robotics," the company that manufactures the Titan mechs within the game world. It unveils the new "Ogre" Titan, a defensive focused alternative to the vanilla "Atlas" Titan. A second trailer also reveals the "Stryder" Titan - the Ogre's polar opposite which is faster, but less armored.

The Ogre is a heavily armored mech that can deliver a powerful finishing move that rips off an opponents arm and beats them to death with it. The trade-off of all that extra armor is that the Ogre moves a bit slower than the standard Titan.

The Stryder trailer, which you can see below, shows the Stryder in a "live field test" facing off against an Atlas Titan. As you can see, he is quite nimble and maneuverable.

Despite this being a "Microsoft" exclusive, the team stressed that Titanfall would feature absolutely no Kinect integration across all three of its platforms, as it doesn't "fit with the game."

Respawn also confirmed during its VGX presentation that the game is "content locked" and the team is now in the final stages of balancing and refinement, in preparation for the game's March 11 release date.

This would make for a pretty awesome metagame if both sides had different companies building slightly different bots. Like how BF for a long time had asymmetrical vehicles. With different nations having different tank designs, buggy designs, hummer designs and even different jets and choppers.

I love how they called 2 robots WORLD REVEAL, this was WORSE than the VGA's. Far worse. No entertainment value whatsoever and they hired the biggest douche in the acting industry to co host. Where were the triple a game reveals? Sleeping would have been a better way to spend my time. I actually took a half hour nap in the second hour I was so bored.

The second video was blocked by Viacom.... WTF?

I'm not so sure if I'll even play Titanfall because it's published by EA.

IDK, the witcher video, the two telltale reveals and the Broken Age stuff was way more interesting than I thought that VGX would be. And I kind of liked Joel McHale even though he was trying way too hard to be inappropriate/"funny"

wow, a fast light robot or a heavy slow one. really thinking outside the box here guys

OT: This sounds like the standard "Fragile Speedster" and "Stone Wall" we see all the time. Still, it will be nice for variety.

How awesome would it be if there was a 50 foot tall mech for each side. No, I don't care if it's overpowered, just give them one each.

A real mind trip would be if they implemented combiner mechs.

That would make me far more excited for the game. Maybe a big team where one team is the crew of a giant mech and the other must take it down with smaller mechs or just two big mechs fighting each other.

But sounds too complicated for a cod with robots and a bit of mirrors edge.

so titanfall is hawken with thte ability to get out of your mech.

Just updated the videos!

Doesn't mean shit to me, since it's being published by EA, and only on Origin for the PC. I'll keep to Hawken, thanks.

Does this mean that if I play this game, it's possible for me to get...

... Ogre-kill?

Also, I think the second video got deleted.

I guess I'm still in the minority on this website of thinking this game actually looks really cool. Oh well.

Second video removed by the user. X_X

The console war is ogre

Careful if you say any Microsoft game is good your post will be banned, idk why people are so critical of this game, it looks quite good, guess their letting their fanboyism control their decisions

That surprises you?

This is The Escapist. If a game isn't an RPG like Mass Effect, Dark Souls, Fallout, or Elder Scrolls, or isn't some pretentious "art" game, than it's viewed as garbage or "just another brown shooter".

Regardless, you can count me among that minority.[1] I think the game looks incredibly fun.

[1] Though, I still worry about the possibility of EA tacking some superfluous bullshit onto the front-end of the game.

So, taking odds.

Given EA's many and various online multiplayer releases of the last two years, what are the chances of,
i) The game being functional and stable on release.
ii) Progression being reasonably rapid (and not tied to credits available for purchase).
iii) Major elements of gameplay being locked behind pay walls.
iv) The game being clearly segmented with the aim of selling season passes.

I'm thinking 100/1 or more for i and ii whilst closer to 1/1 for iii and iv...

But it's not a Microsoft game, it's an EA game that Microsoft bought temporary "exclusivity" for.

And I see more positive reactions to it than not aside from the occasional snark, overall I'd say it's more cautious optimism because we're dealing with EA here.

I see I have some brethren that are for this game, jolly good! I love me some giant mechas!
That being said i'd imagine giant robots and JETPACKS!!! FINALLY! in what looks like a gray military shooter might revive the genre's entertainment value... like COD4 levels of quality... maybe... EA/Origin is behind it after all.

I'd be so jealous of those who owned an Xbone if this were actually an exclusive like they keep pretending it is.
And beyond 720p... uuuuuummmm yeeeeeeaaaaahhhh PC mustard rice........

I should have a new PC by the time it's out. Ultra Titanfall? YES PLEASE

I won't play it because its just another Call of Duty title with mechs in it. A Mad Cat MK II would vaporize these puny machines with a single shot from its two heavy Gauss Cannons.
