GTA V DLC Coming in 2014, Rockstar Teases

Surprise! Rockstar has more GTA V single-player stories and GTA Online content in the pipeline.

In case you had any doubts, Rockstar confirmed there will be Grand Theft Auto V DLC coming out next year, according to a post on their blog today.

According to the post, the studio has both single-player and GTA Online updates in the works. It seems GTA Online will finally get some "heist" missions, allowing players to rob banks and kidnap people as a team. The single-player DLC will be story-based and continue to focus on the GTA V's central trio; Michael, Trevor and Franklin.

The wording in the descriptions sort of, kind of suggests the GTA Online heists may launch early in the "new year," while the GTA V story DLC might be further out in "2014." That notion is totally, 100 percent speculation based on Rockstar's language, though. Don't mark your calendars just yet, people.

In the meantime, Rockstar will launch a beta for the GTA Online content creator to Rockstar Social Club members this week. The "Deathmatch and Race Creators Beta," included in a new software update, will let players build levels for a set of specific mission-types, namely deathmatch, team deathmatch, race, GTA race and rally race missions. Users will be able to share their creations with others through the Social Club and, if they're really good, Rockstar says they plan to "verify" and promote their favorite user-made missions. The beta announcement comes hot on the heels of a video showing off the level editor posted last week.

Aw that's disappointing. I has hoping for something more akin to GTA IV's DLC, where we get a new character and storyline.

Well if anything it might get me playing GTA:O again.

Apparently those sold like shit and took way too long to make. I'm guessing that they want to devote more resources to GTA6/GTAO instead.

OT: I'm excited for the SP DLC. From the 6 or so hours of GTAO I've played, it's quite shitty.

Any word on a PC release? Would love to play this game, but I don't own a console so...

Sad to hear that, I really enjoyed both the DLC stories. More than I enjoyed the original game actually X3.

Me too. Gay Tony was an amazing character and Yusuf was a hoot.

why would Rockstar add another character, when they already got 3 solid characters to continue on.....

Oh good heists, I still think they should have been a bit quicker with that one.

To be fair, that's probably because the main story of GTA IV was total shit. :P

But then they couldn't sell it to us after hyping us up with anticipation!

OT: That's pretty much my bet for how this is going to go down. I believe when they released the Beach Bum pack, they said this was a freebie but paid DLC was on the way. "$5 and you can go on heist missions! Another $5 and you can do some more stuff in single player!"

Sorry, but I've already moved on to other games. GTA:O doesn't have much for those of us who don't have a consistent group of friends to play with.

hell, even those of us that did have a group of friends to play with left the game.

I don't want to play Deathmatch, I don't want to play races. I want to do cooperative stuff.

But Rockstar thinks that's stupid, so the only way for me to make money would be doing stuff that I absolutely despise.

I might check it out for a few hours when the heist missions get introduced, but not a damned second before.

So the new DLC content expected for next year is mostly stuff that was advertised as part of the online experience and some of which was supposed to be available shortly after launch?

HOORAY!

Preach on!

Instead, we get more deathmatches.

HOORAY!

Haven't they already stated the online DLC would be free, and that was part of the justification for IAP of cash?

Oh, hell, do I really believe Rockstar will actually deliver on a promise with this game?

Oh man, this DLC sounds terrible. But I'll never have a chance to check it out because they don't seem to be interested in a PC version. Meh, it's probably for the best, whoever they have programming these days are horrible with optimization. GTAIV was terribly optimized and it never got much better.

As someone who does have a consistent group of friends to play with, I can assure you that there's not much more for us. We had to rely on our own shenanigans to keep the game interesting, and then after the surplus package insured tanks started showing up. We all stopped playing shortly afterward. Even after they fixed the insured part tanks were still everywhere.

We checked in to take a look at the Beach Bum pack, but it was so lame. Yeah, it was free, but Rockstar would've all been burned at the stake if they charged a cent for it anyway--regardless of the game's rocky beginnings.

I would've looked forward to the DLC a month ago, but GTA:O has worn out its welcome with all of the bullshit. I've moved on.

Despite its horrible debut GTA Online was really underwhelming. I played for hours on GTA IV's free roam online mode but with no weapons lying around and it costing money every time you respawn I grew bored very quick.
Single player still provides some entertainment but I'm pretty close to selling this considering 360 players will probably get whatever DLC is released before us PS3 owners.
