Update: Skyrim For PS4 and Xbox One Outed On Official Bethesda Site

Keen-eyed fans spotted Xbox One and PS4 appear in the "available platforms" section of Bethesda's Skyrim website.

Update: It turns out it was only a "website error," according to Eurogamer.

Skyrim, Bethesda's blockbuster open-world yelling-loudly simulator, was released in 2011 for the PC, Xbox 360 and PS3. Now, keen-eyed fans have spotted an Xbox One and PS4 listing for the game appear on the official Bethesda website. It appears that the game's launch on next-gen (current-gen?) consoles is imminent.

On the website, the Xbox One and PS4 options are grayed out, unlike the PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 options which hyperlink to online retailers. As for Skyrim's three DLC packs: Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn, they are still currently listed as only being available on PS3, PC and Xbox 360, but one would assume that the next-gen version would be the "legendary edition" that compiles all of the game's DLC.

Furthermore, an e-mail from the official Bethesda store is reportedly doing the rounds, telling fans to "come visit for our very special announcement" on January 12. At this point, the announcement could be literally anything, if it is even legit. After all, we've been burned by Bethesda hoaxes before.

The Escapist has not received said e-mail, but we have reached out to Bethesda for comment.

Will it have any improvements?

That's what I'd like to know.

Interest rising.

I never bought it for PS3 after hearing about the many bugs and crashes on that version. Never got it for PC either because I'm slowly starting to get sick of my PC. This new PS4 version (if real could literally by third time lucky.

If the graphics are improved and I can disable the DLC then I might get this for a 2nd time. They would need to be HUGELY improved to make up for the almost certain continued lack of mods.

Then all I would need is a PS4 and a new TV....so yeah back to my hole.

well i would assume it might have the HD pack you can download for free on PCs...and i doubt they'd resell the game alone and without any DLC...so there's likely to be that.

an "HD" "collected" edition is what i'd expect basically...

and have to say it has the potential to be shown to be sorely wanting alongside the Witcher 3...assuming the Witcher 3 lives up to it's promises ofc...

I think people will be upset if Bethesda doesn't at least offer a discount for this to the people who already have Skyrim/Legendary Edition.

My first thought with this is that I would love the chance to play Skyrim on my Vita through remote play. One of the biggest issues I had with the game was not being able to justify bogarting the TV for 100+ hours to explore the sucker to its fullest. A PS4 version could be a really nice solution for me.

Not sure if I'll pay another 40-50 for a slightly better looking game I've already played to death. Hopefully Bethesda will be creative here and release it with a few of the better mods incorporated into the game itself... but I'm expecting this to be a pretty shameless cash-in.

Please don't be as buggy as rotten corpse.

I want to know what incentive we'd be given to buy this game on the PS4/Obox One at this stage?

I have Skyrim looking pretty good on my PC through mods. Running at 1080p with a pretty good frame rate it feels far richer than any console version. Unless this new version can at least match that experience then I very much doubt it'd be worth the purchase for those already in the game. With that established can there actually be enough people who haven't played it that are planning on playing it to actually justify this port?

Now, if they integrated some sort of mod support ala Steam Workshop... maybe, just maybe.

I wonder if they realize that if they re-release it onto the current generation that there will be zero excuses for bugs and glitches. I think we will all find out pretty quickly if this is just a shameless cash-in.

Pete Hines has confirmed that this isn't true, apparently it's just a bug that affected listed platforms

Will it actually work on playstation 4?

To my understanding the PS3 version is still borderline unplayable and never did get fixed for long term stability issues. Correct me if I'm wrong here.

I'm curious if a lot of people will actually buy this, since anyone who really wants Skyrim will probably have bought it on all the platforms it's currently on, three times over.
But really, I'm more curious how broken this will be at launch, and how much of that will change a year later.

SirBryghtside:
What's wrong with the DLC? You can pretty much ignore the whole thing except for some random encounters.

Vampires keep killing all the blacksmiths!

Really, it's quite amusing (until you have a stack of arms and armour for sale). ;)

This is about the only thing that would get me to pick it up for PS4, I already have it looking gorgeous on my PC, and I love using Steam Workshop. Even small tweaks, like Malukah's songs on the title screen just make a world of difference, but when you take into account so many other great tweaks and the godsend of unofficial patches that fix the problems Bethesda didn't? Why would I want to give that up for the ability to play it on a console, when I can already HDMI it to my TV and use a 360 controller if I REALLY don't feel like sitting at the computer?

So they are most likely going to port the PC version without any support for mods. I guess it makes sense since porting to the newer platforms might be cost effective and some people will probably buy it.

Just out of cuiriosity why would you want to disable the DLC? I never got it myself, does it bugger up the game?

As someone pointed out "Dawnguard" has Vampires attacking the towns, and they can permanently kill off any NPC you could yourself kill (pretty much anyone except the kids) making them more destructive to the environment than Dragons ever were. They can for example depopulate important NPCs like merchants and blacksmiths making it increasingly difficult to sell loot.

The problem with the DLC for "Skyrim" seems to be not only a lack of inspiration (nothing has yet to match the sheer coolness of "Shivering Isles") but that it seems to largely be intended entirely for a player who did everything else in the basic game. If you are just starting out, heading for the DLC areas can rapidly make it so anything you get from the main world quests is pathetic in comparison, not to mention the damage vampires can cause seems to have been considered in terms of the player already basically being the majority shareholder of the entire universe and not needing to sell anything anymore (as there is indeed a point where you've somehow managed to cram a pile of gold the size of the moon into your pocket and have gear that makes it child's play to overkill the toughest things the game is capable of generating).

Let me know when the next gen consoles can make Skyrim look like this in 1080p, you know, like a half-decent PC can.

You know what game should definitely come to next-gen consoles?
GTA V, and of course GTA:Online.
Besides of that, infohippie is right, ANY decent PC makes Skyrim look far better than in consoles, and then theres the mods, and this is not a Master PC race claim (i hate those snobs), because anyone has access to decent PCs, they are quite cheap.
Unfortunately they dont fix the awful Skyrim's combat :P

Surprisingly, people don't seem to care about the combat, which I cannot understand considering how barebones and dull it is, and with how much combat there is to show that. It's completely beyond my comprehension.

I had a feeling that it was incorrect. The reason is because the Legendary Edition of Skyrim was not listed as having an Xbox One or PS4 port, and it was just the vanilla game. Would've been a dick move if Bethesda ported the vanilla version and expected everyone to buy the DLC again.
Hooray pessimism! :D
You're either right, or presently surprised.

Damn shame jimmy, it would have been good for people with PS4's and Xbones to be able to grab a more HD version of Skyrim ultimate edition.

Also shame about the obvious PC quotes as per usual, a console thread getting mocked and shat on isn't exactly new here, I wish it were new and then died right there.
