Fox Business: LEGO Movie "Anti-Capitalist"

Fox Business recently labeled The LEGO Movie's use of a CEO as its villain as an attempt to "indoctrinate" children with "anti-capitalist messages."

It's pretty hard not to love LEGO. Whether you tried to eat them as a toddler, played with them as a child or just enjoy some of the more recent play sets, it wouldn't be a stretch to say that there's a way for most everyone to enjoy it. That in mind, it should be no great surprise that the recently released LEGO Movie has been a big hit both with critics and at the box office.

Not everyone has responded well to the movie, however. The folk at Fox Business recently took exception to film's antagonist, the diabolical CEO Lord Business. "Why is the head of a corporation, where they hire people, people go to work, they pay their rent, their mortgage, they put their kids through college, they feed their families, they give to charities, they give to churches -- why would the CEO be an easy target," asked host Charles Payne.

His guest, media analyst Paul Dergarabedian responded that movies of this sort generally rely on villains in positions of power. Co-host Monica Crowley, in turn, accused Hollwyood and The LEGO Movie of "trying to indoctrinate kids" with "anti-capitalist messages." Dergarabedian pointed out that LEGO itself is a pretty big company obviously hoping to promote its brand and make money with the film, but that seemed to fall on deaf ears. Granted, it wouldn't be Fox if the responses were rational but still, the silliness here is pretty spectacular.

I'm going to go out on a limb and guess they didn't actually *WATCH* the movie. Certain *REDACTED REDACTED REDACTED*, it's not anti corporation.

FOX: Trying to find anything to bitch about...even a kids movie...

I particularly love whenever they bring up The Lorax. Granted, the remake sucked, but the fact that they're all "Damn that movie and its call for clean air!!!!" makes me laugh.

I still say the best was whn they called out The Muppet Movie for the same thing only to have Kermit and Miss Piggy mock them in a press conference. :D

And I suppose every form of entertainment that features an evil corporation is anti-capitalist. Things like Aliens, Resident Evil, and Superman.

These are the moments when I hide my head in shame and wish that Fox would stop making the rest of us Republicans look bad.

Fox News, trying to make a mountain out of a Lego block the just stepped on.

Terrible really, demonising these generous CEOs that benevolently give the workers money to pay their mortgages (from themselves) and buy food and consumer goods (from themselves) out of the goodness of their hearts.

Oh oh oh!!! And the Robocop movies! I'm certain Fox has already pointed out that the Robocops are representative of the government's oppression of small businesses, yes? ;)

I'm certainly going to go see this LEGO movie. Since anti-business Hollywood isn't interested in making money off of it, it's technically more of a LEGO public service announcement, right?

Good god, Fox, first bitching about The Muppets for being anti-capitalist and now The LEGO Movie... why don't you go film yourselves kicking a puppy next to complete the "Sh!t on childhood joy" bucket list?

Freaken loved that movie though. So many fuzzy memories. Also shut up Fox.

Without the spaces between the [s and words, of course.

Gee, why would anyone pick on poor, defenseless coroprations...?

It's not like in addition to that list of Fox's things that amount to "they pay people to work and occasionally do charitable works for which they receive large tax write-offs" they don't also pollute the environment, strong-arm local governments, lobby for weaker labor laws, ship jobs overseas, dodge paying taxes, pretend to be people until it comes time to shuffle off legal liability...

...Oh, and also actually try to indoctrinate children, unlike Fox News' paranoid fantasies.

(Cue Yosemite Sam-style swearing.)

Hey Fox, three words: Lex Fucking Luthor. Or did they finally acknowledge that comics aren't just aimed at kids now? Maybe in thirty years they won't be running a "video games linked to youth violence" story every month.

It's funny, too, how other news agencies (that aren't financed by them) attack companies like Bank of America and Fox has nothing better to do than target a kids movie with accusations of being anti-capitalist. How is a kids movie based on expensive as hell plastic toys that I'm sure Lego wants kids to keep buying anti-capitalist? I'm also sure that it had several ads for wallet deflating concessions and trailers for actual mind numbing cash grab films. I doubt the movie took jabs at those capitalist ideals.

Most News networks on either side are at best "enhancing" the truth on many of their stories to get more ratings and discredit their political opponents. Fox News goes above and beyond to turn anything into an enemy of the American People if they aren't profiting from it. They should rename themselves to the Conspiracy Theorist News Network.

If God didn't want us to laugh at politics, he wouldn't have made Fox and MSNBC... or the political parties at all for that matter.

You mean the movie designed by a major corporation specifically to further their brand image and to sell toys to kids is anti-capitalist?

Oh Fox, never change.

People in america watch this and take it seriously?
That's kind of worrying.

You know Capitalism really shouldn't be a religion. It's just a system that happens, you don't need the people in it to believe in capitalism or be indoctrinated in it (or against it). FOX really does do its best to serve two masters

Superman was envisioned as a socialist crusader, rescuing people the capitalists didn't want to help. Though oddly enough Luther comes in after that went away and he became a propaganda piece.

And this is why, when you're talking about american politics with various political science students, sociologists, etc, in universities around Europe, we really just smile and shrug and move on.

Because "Corrupt Corporate Executive" isn't a stereotype so hackneyed it's become cliche >.>

So that's what they choose to report on? Good. To me that means that they are actually afraid of people not accepting the idea of Capitalism Above All.

After all, isn't it time that mankind undid at least some of the damage that capitalism-fueled greed has done to this world and the people who inhabit it?

Coming soon to a Fox Network Report near you: EXPOSED! The machinations and propaganda of terrorist mastermind behind the recent anti-capitalist propaganda in Hollywood, Emmanuel Goldstein.

Man, why the fuck would I want to hate on the CEO? They do everything! They move mountains, make the impossible possible! And you know what, I love the stockholders, too. All hail Our Gods! Oh, if only I could cut my body into all the pieces for every CEO and majority stockholder and let them be absorbed into their bodies, that way my spirit and love for them will live in all of them!

You know, your points about The LEGO Movie actually makes me even more interested about it.

So, good work promoting the movie, FOX...

Oh yeah! Robocop. How could I forget about Robocop?!

But Fox NEVER gets their facts wrong!

Yeah, the Lego Movie was actually anti-hollywood if anything, the whole film was a celebration of geek culture and a brutal parody of hollywood cliches.

And really, the Robocop remake? It's not anti-capitalist, it's anti-drone and surveillance. It's clearly a response to the surveillance state issues, like the NSA. You'd think Fox would jump on it as being "anti-obama" or some nonsense.

Uggggghhh, the overwhelming stupid that comes from Fox 'News' is enough to make my head crush itself.

Zer0Saber:

Exactly. It's pretty clear that these mouth breathers didn't even see the movie, nor bothered to notice the numerous LEGO Movie merchandise that's been pumped out to capitalize on the film before they started to spew forth their explosive verbal diarrhea. (how they've flourished in NYC, I'll never know)

Okay, I was indifferent about this film, but it's enough to get Fox's panties in a bunch...
Besides, I don't know the plot, but the mere idea that they are making a 90 minute advert for Lego is as Capitalist as it comes.

Is it bad that this makes me want to see it more?

Long live Glorious Job Creators! Death to saboteurs and occupists!

I was of fool to ever trust little yellow plastic men. I am of very happy that I was shown way right.

This clip is less funny than that old cranky white man (I can't be more specific, even though that's 90% of Fox news anchors) complained about The Givers creating a generation of, and I quote, "Occu-todlers"

Well now I HAVE to go see this movie.

Although if this is how they react to a cartoonishly evil CEO in a kids movie, can't wait to see them react to Lex Luthor. "Is Zack Snyder trying to make ruthless businessmen who think their hard work excuses them from basic morality look like the BAD GUYS???!!!"

The entire movie is basically an ad for the Lego corporation made by a big Hollywood movie studio (read a large media corporation). Fox is just retarded and pandering to the old white audience.
