Flappy Bird Clones Getting Rejected By Apple, Google

Flappy Bird

As clones flood app marketplaces, the word "flappy" is getting apps yanked.

Oh Flappy Bird, we hardly knew ye. Even though the actually game was pulled by its creator before many people ever got to give it a try, its spirit lives on in the hundreds of imitators that now follow in its wake. While some are honest tributes, most are naked cash grabs that are simply flooding app stores. Games like Flappy Super Hero, Flappy Flyer, and Flappy Plane all happily sit atop best selling lists. Now, both Apple and Google are rejecting new games which use the word "flappy" for leveraging a popular app , even if the official game no longer exists.

It started when Ken Carpenter of Mind Juice Media posted an angry tweet saying that his game, Flappy Dragon, had been rejected by Apple. The stated reason was that the "name attempts to leverage a popular app," violating the app submission guidelines. It's not just Apple, as he was also rejected from the Google Play store as well, which didn't even offer an explanation. He's not the only one, as many other developers are publicly complaining that their Flappy clones are also getting rejected.

So far, it doesn't seem to be the games themselves that are the issue, only the use of the Flappy name. It wouldn't be that odd of a case if it wasn't for the fact that aside from a few over-priced devices, Flappy Bird doesn't exist any more. Regardless, I think it's safe to say that the world has currently reached the peak of Flappy saturation, for better or worse. Probably worse.

Good, may the vultures actually have to work for their undeserved money.

Peak Flappy was hit when multiple 'Flappy Coin' cryptocurrencies were set-up (and are now competing against each other and calling the others fakes).

Also check out all the people literally just advertising for people who will steal Flappy source code for them. They're all paying less than $500 for it too

EDIT: The top iOS game right now is called 'Splash Fish-the Adventure of a Flappy Tiny Bird Fish' :P And there's a Flappy Doge

Oh boo hoo, my 100% cloned game that probably took me less than a few hours to make for the sole purpose to cash-in on another person's idea is being rejected from the app store/google play, so now I can't make any undeserved money.

A quick search for 'flappy' on the Google Play store revealed just short of 250 clones and I saw several Flappy Dragons. That's pretty bad.

My personal favorite is Flappy Turd Saga, because why leverage the name of one popular app when you can have two AND give users a pretty good idea of the quality they can expect?

Well there goes my multi-million dollar idea...

So long unfinished game.

We did make a game like Flappy Bird a year and half ago for Windows Phone though. Link

Good news: Google and Apple are deigning to stop the flow of crappy knock off's from inundating their respective stores.

Bad News: Crappy knock off's with money behind them like Dungeon Keeper still gets through.

Good, less uninspired shoddy junk the better.

Oh, the nerve of Google and Apple to reject your original hard work. Those tyrants.

Honestly though, die, please.

At least they're making some effort to block the obvious cash-ins.

Though some of the parodies are pretty funny. Besides TC's take on it, this one's my favorite:

It's just an image though.

What! Apple and Google are actually quality checking the games on their storefronts? *gaspu* Oh hold on, they're just filtering out games with a specific word in the title. Oh well, I guess people will have to call their unoriginal games something else, like F1appy B1rd.

Well at least it is somewhat battling the problem, better than nothing.

Back to sifting through all the Minecraft ripoffs I guess...

what's so funny is that flappy bird is a knock off of another game called Piou Piou that came out in 2011.
