Wolfenstein: The New Order Pre-Orders Get DOOM Beta Access

Wolfenstein: The New Order gets a new BOOM BOOM trailer, release dates, and a tempting pre-order bonus.

Bethesda and MachineGames released a new trailer today for Wolfenstein: The New Order and announced the release dates for latest installment in the classic series. Wolfenstein: The New Order will be available in North America on May 29, with the European release following on May 23. The rather bloody new gameplay trailer introduces us to BJ Blazkowicz, protagonist of later Wolfenstein titles and now a resistance fighter in Nazi-controlled 1960s America. Unlike other Wolfenstein titles, The New Order is strictly a single player first person shooter. Bethesda ruled out any multiplayer modes in June last year. Wolfenstein: The New Order will be available for PC, Xbox One, Xbox 360, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation 3.

Along with the release date and trailer, Bethesda and MachineGames announced a tempting pre-order bonus for Wolfenstein: The New Order. All pre-orders of the game will include an invitation to access the DOOM beta, details of which will come at a later time. More info about the pre-order bonus is available from the official Wolfenstein site. Doom 4 was announced in 2008, but development was restarted in 2011, after ZeniMax Media acquired id Software.

The Escapist previewed Wolfenstein: The New Order at E3 back in June. Joshua Vanderwall described the game as "an unapologetic blood bath". Wolfenstein: The New Order will have five difficulty settings, with "I Am Death Incarnate" as the hardest. Andreas Ojerfors, Machine Games senior gameplay designer, says, "We want it to be a real, real challenge for people. This is not an easy game."

Oh boy more crappy remakes..... tho I did kinda like the last wolfenstine game even if I did have to mod the damages to make the game harder.

Well, before i go talking about the article first things first,

Why is there an age verification on a news article? Specially since my DOB is on my profile.

Now that thats out the way, even though i am looking forward to this game, a simple beta access aint enough to convice me to actually pre order it. If the bonus was a free copy of the fully completed game DOOM, now that would convince me.

Chainsawing a German prisoner? What is this, motherfucking Inglorious Basterds?

*Aside* from that particular bullshit, this looks unbelievably awesome and I am going to have to buy/steal a PS4 and a copy as soon as I possibly can! Also: loving the Nazi MAWLR.

I really hope this is gonna be good. Wolf is an IP that can use more games. Demonic robonazis are always fun.

I also really hope they won't call Doom 4 simply 'Doom'.

What remake? It's a sequel, no previous Wolf game was in the 60's or had akimbo weapons.

In fact this is the kind of sequel even Yahtzee approves of.

Doom had a beta? Awesome, gimmegimmegimme...

Oh they're talking about Doom4, well that's something, I guess

Stop trying to turn games into movies. Games are not movies, nor are they cinematic experiences. Apart from that, it's the best trailer I've seen in a while. If it was for a movie.

The difficulty setting sounds good, it might actually be a challenge, especially compared to Bioshock 2 which was a fucking cakewalk.
I just hope it's not locked until you complete the game, like some games like to do..

You have to respect their choice in not wasting time for making multiplayer, it sounds promising. I'll wait until reviews before I try it out myself though.

I'm getting some worrying tonal inconsistencies here. The music, the robots and the goofy villains all point to a campy, Tarantino-style alternate history romp, but then you've also got this really brutal looking gore and violence and GRRR FREEDOM WARRIORS. It's like the game can't decide whether it wants to be serious or a parody of the kind of game this would be if it was serious.

Because you know, that wasn't Inglorious Bastards at all? An alt-history piece that happened to blend over-the-topness of both the characters and the violence. Also, this is really far from campy.

Anyway, trailer looks great, glad to see the devs aren't just making a bland FPS like Wolfenstein 2008 or hastily adding MP too.

Last time I checked, May 23rd came BEFORE May 29th, so the European release comes first...?

OT: This is on my "ask for as a gift or pick up pre-owned" list - but I'm willing to upgrade if there's enough meat on the campaign...

Two of the finest FPS franchises at once?
Yes please. Only thing I will pre-order this year. Though Wolfenstein (2009) was not bad, I do hope this one is better...
as in Return To Castle Wolfenstein good... and that is a VERY tall order.

Ohhh please have Robo-Hitler! Please have Robo-Hitler!

Enough with the xbox360 graphics, show us how the game will look on PS4 and PC.

This looks just stupid, why would you ever introduce serious story elements and character arcs in Wolfenstein? RtCW wasn't the best entry in the series because of its intelligent and insightful narrative. Those cutscenes make it look more like Killzone than anything else.
Oh well, at least the gameplay seems decent, hopefully the narrative won't be nearly as prominent as the trailer makes it look like.

Gideon Emery as a scotsman? What will they think of next? Robot Hitler?

Indeed, you know a project is doomed when the marketing leads with the prospect of access to an entirely different product.

In some respects that trailer looked suitably mental for a Wolfenstein game, but the knife animations looked horrifically close to Battlefield or Far Cry style canned melee animations, what ever happened to swinging around the good old Sledgehammer?

I bet this game doesn't even have a Sledgehammer.

Um... dog food? No? Id doesn't even care anymore.

On a serious note, unless those are the narrowest corridors in the whole game or the Germans manage to be really fun to kill, this trailer isn't inspiring confidence.

I haven't been excited about a new game in a lonnnng while, this looks very very promising

Wait...so under Nazi rule we would have had giant battle mechs in the 1960s? Is this game trying to make the Nazis seem like a good alternative, because I'm kind of siding with them. Sure...holocaust and lots of bad stuff...but battlemechs and robot dogs...

Enough with the damn blaring horns already!!

Ze trailers, ze mean nothink however. Ve vill wait...patiently as before. Still, can't be worse than the last one. Also, I think I liked it when BJ didn't talk so much.

Nice. May 28? I can wait. Also a good sign that they slashed multiplayer for it, believe it or not. Means that at they devoted a whole lotta resources to the single-player.

HOWEVER, last I heard of Doom 4, it was going through development hell (no pun intended). Wonder how the beta will be. Hopefully they picked themselves out of the mud.

This......now THIS is a sequel. And i like how they are like yeeeeh Multiplayer is not going to work so fuck it. No sense it adding extra work to somthing that does not seem to work well. Noting wrong with single player games, co-op might be good. But it did interest me with DOOM.Perhaps not enough to get me pre-ordering but still im waiting on somthing more solid in the DOOM department before anything.

I will say this, finding it weird no ID logo around This game or in relation to DOOM.

I admit I'm intrigued.

And while torturing someone with a chainsaw is pretty out there, he's torturing a Nazi with a chainsaw. It's hard to say that's a bad thing.

I'm not sure what you find worrying about that. Sounds like a perfect description of the previous Wolfenstein games really. Brutal gore and violence combined with zombies and mecha-Hitler.

That's... not what "following" means.

This trailer is god awfully bad and because of this I think the game itself will have as much originality as the trailer itself. Also, stop enabling auto-play ffs escapist, I feel sorry for those who have data caps.

A little pissed off that they'd announce this when there hasn't even been the slightest update on Doom in ages.

A Doom game without Carmack, Romero, and Hall working on it? Guaranteed failure.

RtCW and Wolf:ET offered some of the best MP experiences from the early to mid 00's. I'm kinda sad they aren't bringing back that old formula for the new generation.

The thing with RTCW is that it had a unique atmosphere and feeling.
Its story was influenced by real conspiracy theories, and it had that dark vibe with Nazis doing satanic rituals, and the whole presentation was like that of a 'serious' thriller / horror movie, with nazis.
Instead the direction Raven took for the 2009 game of the series, and the direction this trailer seems to point at,is what you would expect from a Marvel Superhero comic book.
Return to Castle Wolfenstein was more like F.E.A.R. with nazis than Duke Nukem with Nazis.

This game is more like "you are the cool badass protagonist with superpowers/that was frozen in carbonite, that is going to beat the evil guys because they are evil".

RTCW was like "you are a simple covert ops soldier that is captured by the enemy and you find out they bring satanic spirits on Earth as you try to get away"

Oh and in another note: That awkward moment when the open beta of a game is announced before the game itself.
