Yep, Amazing Spider-Man 2 Cast/Crew Would Like A Marvel Crossover

The Amazing Spider Man 2 poster

Andrew Garfield once again confirms he'd like to see his Amazing Spider-Man show up in the Avengers universe.

It's well-known that Sony and Marvel were * this * close to a deal that would have slipped an Easter egg in the form of The Amazing Spider-Man's Oscorp Tower into the New York City skyline of The Avengers. As it turned out, Marvel's SFX team were already nearly done with their film by the time this happened, and the subtle crossover never materialized.

Well, at least the stars and director of The Amazing Spider-Man 2 wish that wasn't the case. In an interview posted today on Yahoo! Movies UK, stars Andrew Garfield, Emma Stone and Jamie Foxx, and director Marc Webb, were asked if they'd like to see a crossover, and the consensus was a very diplomatic yes. "I think everyone would love to see that," Garfield said. "The thing is that I would love that, the fans would love that. Obviously, big business and lawyers and rights issues are an obstacle. In my naivete I'm all 'let's put all that aside and just do it!'."

Obviously, this is just a puff-piece interview and the responses therein should not be taken in any way to indicate that this is a real possibility. But, it's worth noting that this isn't the first time Garfield has mentioned wanting to insert himself into the MCU. At Comic Con 2013, during the Amazing Spider-Man panel, when asked by a fan what element from the Spider-Man comics he'd most like to do in the films, he said, unambiguously, "I'd like to be an Avenger."

I'm actually a fan of Andrew Garfield's take on Peter Parker and Spider-Man, so I'll admit I'd really like to see him in an epic snark duel with the RDJ version of Tony Stark. However, given how uneven and plodding The Amazing Spider-Man was, I can't say I'm particularly upset about a lack of ties to the MCU. I'd rather see if Marvel could work actual magic with the wall crawler on its own terms, especially considering how they managed to take one of the Marvel Universe's silliest characters - Loki - and turn him into one of the greatest screen villains of all time. Sony, meanwhile, can't figure out how to celebrate the weirdness of the Spidey-corner of the Marvel universe and take it seriously at the same time, so the result is stuff like the hilariously awful Green Goblin unveiled a few weeks back.

Fortunately, we'll be spared seeing Captain America square off against the power-armor version of Jean-Ralphio Saperstein (h/t), as there is no way Sony will relinquish creative control over Spider-Man to fit him into the MCU. Hell, the reason the Amazing Spider-Man franchise even exists is that Sony wants to keep the rights to Spider-Man and his related characters from ever reverting back to Disney.

Besides, that weird, almost-was crossover sounds kind of cool, in the same way seeing ETs as members of the Galactic Senate sounded cool right up until we actually saw The Phantom Menace. So maybe we dodged a bullet. Unless The Amazing Spider-Man 2 ends up being awesome, in which case cue tears from me.

I would love to see Amazing Spiderman be a part of the Marvel Movieverse, too; at least in an alternate timeline where The Amazing Spiderman was a good movie. In this universe? Sorry Garfield; please stay out of the (so far) good movieverse that Marvel has going.

I wouldn't mind Spider-Man showing up for a brief cameo in the Avengers universe, or at least a little nod to him. But having him be a full-fledged member or an extended scene, I'm not so sure about. I never saw the latest film because when I saw Peter Park, he didn't look like Peter Parker. Honest Trailers sums up my problem with him pretty well, and Movie Bob's review just made it so I had no desire to see the movie. I do like the idea he had though about Spider-woman showing up. Have one of the Avengers look at her and go, "So...spider theme? Any relation to--" "Nope. Never even met the guy." That would be perfect in my opinion.

Yep, Amazing Spider-Man 2 Cast/Crew Would Like To Be A Part Of A Brilliant Movie Franchise

There, fixed it for you. ;)

No! Not this Spider-man. If they make a new Spidey designed to be intertwined with Disney/Marvel universe that would be OK. But this Spidey sucks and it just wouldn't make any sense. It's set in New York. And there wasn't a single mention of Stark, Thor, Cap, Loki, aliens etc. This spidey doesn't belong in that universe.

I'd love to see that happen, Thor could accidentally splatter him when Jane mentions that she's afraid of spiders. Then Iron Man would have some dinky gadget to clear up the gibs.

I'd like Disney to get Spiderman back, then immediately hire Sam Raimi and let him do Spiderman 3 properly...

First of all, I haven't seen The Amazing Spiderman, so I don't really know how that Spiderman is, but looking from the trailer he seems kinda moody. Well, at least Peter Parker does. It just doesn't feel like a good fit with the Avengers.

I'd be okay if they decided that this spider-man was in the ultimate universe, but only if they have him hook up with the x-men and shadow cat. I loved that story arc from the ultimate spider-man universe and I pretty much felt falling back to Marry Jane was dumb.

No... no maybe when you don't go out on a limb and try making Spiderman a dumb emo teen, i will want him to be a part of the universe, but this isn't the smart/sciencey, cool, smart talking spider man that i would want talking to iron man.

If they can get Garfield to do it without Sony, yes(far better spidy/parker imo). If Sony's attached, no. Bassically, all Sony's needs is to be there to collect the money and make sure their brand doesn't take a hit. After that, shut it.

Honestly, take Bobs review with a grain of fan raged salt. I've watched/read spider-man to the same lengths he has and enjoy Garfield's portrayal more. The writing and pacing compared to the original trilogy was off(as well as more than a few plot holes), but it follows the series and brings to life the characters far better than the original(SM2 was amazing though). All in all I'd put SM1 above ASM1 simply because of William Dafoe's Green Goblin. As to the sequel, Jami Foxx is an amazing actor so I'll hold my tongue on bashing on ASM2's Electro. just wana point out that it was the script that sucked not the acting. Hell im a fan of ultimate spiderman and this guy acts exactly the same as spidy does in that comic, wise cracking and using web shooters.

Sounds like a case of Sony wanting to have their cake and eat Marvel's too.

I am guessing that they want to cross over with the Marvel CU in order to be in a good superhero movie as apposed to the crap they have had to do so far.

Agree, and that's precisely why I'm a fan of Garfield as Spidey and wish he could be Spidey in better movies within the MCU.

EDIT: adding that this also illustrates how much better Superhero movies can be when the filmmakers don't have to pretend the world only has one hero.

EDIT: nevermind, removed this for silliness. Sorry.

I have a feeling Disney's just going to gobble up all the marvel rights as soon as they get done integrating the star wars brand into their kingdom, and trust me if anyone can just bitch slap sony off the movie rights it'll be Disney.

So many people giving voice to my very thoughts. It's like there are people out there who share my feelings on the Not-Really-That-Amazing Spider-Man movies.

You realize this is kind of like hoping that C'thulu and Cthugha have a fight. Now we're boned.

What's this? A crap franchise wants to get in with a great one? Amazing! Next you'll tell me that every lame dude in high school would love to score with the hottest chick, this is all so unbelievable!

Seriously though, until Disney gets the rights back, absolutely anything and everything to do with a movie version of Spider-Man just feels like twisting a knife. I'm really disappointed in Disney, I'd foolishly hoped that they'd be able to get all their lost Marvel children back home under one roof, seems like they'd have that power if they'd just foot the bill.

YEP, AMAZING SPIDER-MAN 2 CAST/CREW WOULD LIKE A MARVEL CROSSOVER

And I would like to be in Bayonetta sandwich. Not going to hold my breath over either. Maybe if the powers that be learned how to share their toys with each other, we'd have a different situation. But they don't, so we aren't. That's life.

Now if you follow me over here, I would like to show you the museum of hot chicks that are apparently "out of your league".

Because what the Avengers really need is another wise cracking smart ass.

I really don't know why this is being reported. Everybody wants this except the title-holders. Remember when Hugh Jackman was raising a furor over this, all to drum up interest for the newest Wolverine film?

As I always say, I hope this series flops so badly, they have no choice but to sell. It won't ever happen, but a man can dream...

Heck, I'd accept a Fox buyout of the franchise, that's how desperate I am for a freaking crossover, now that such things are possible. In all fairness, I'd prefer it to go to Fox, simply b/c Deadpool vs Spidey (and the Avengers are doing fine without him).

Anybody know if there are any other characters or Marvel B-listers that Sony could even access for a team up? Even the characters from the Infamous games would be a welcome addition (and actually interesting). As much as I hate God of War, I'd almost support a "re-imagined movie" to serve as Spidey's "Thor."

...Strike that last idea, I honestly don't think anyone could make such a mess of an idea work...

Still, other properties that Sony owns...I think I'll go do a Google search just to sate my curiosity for potential crossovers (that will never happen).

EDIT: well, the Spiderman related guys are probable (Black Cat, Silver Sable, Venom, Clones, Alternate Reality versions, etc)

I already listed Drake Cole from Infamous (and all related characters) as well as the God of War Series (which means all the Greek Gods).

Gabe from Syphon Filter would be their Nick Fury
Nathan Drake would...probably die without some sort of suit/artifact

Sony's other IP's just wouldn't work...

The Helghast would...likely be a bad idea, time travel or no
Quantic Dream's characters...heck no
All the platformer characters...good God no!!!!
That Onimusha knockoff (Genji)...nope nope nope
A few of the Sony owned RPG's...why bother?
One could almost make a case of Jeanne d'Arc or Gravity Rush, but the result would be cumbersome and messy...

I can't think of any other iconic, and more importantly, acceptable, offerings...

just want to point out one thing that makes it pretty clear if Disney really wants it, it gets done. They made China pay them royalties on their knock offs of their characters, a terrorist faction of Hamas apologize for using Mickey Mouse, and took star wars from George Lucus without anyone the wiser till the day it happened. Disney is very scary and we should all be afraid of them.......

Good god i hope this never happens!

Put his crap into perfectly good movies? I'd love to see spiderman with the avergers like every marvel fan, but not sony's spiderman. If marvel should put spiderman back into their movie universe, they'll have to do him from the ground up, new cast, new writer, new directors, new everything.

I don't mind people trying to do new things to a comic franchise like putting new characters or even changing the characters themselves, but one thing I hate is when they change the soul of the comic, as in the general theme like hulk gets angry and superman fights for justice.

Who superman fights, fucks and end up with doesn't matter; What he believes in, how and what he fights for does.

Don't Disney already own Marvel? And so have the rights to everything that wasn't sold to Sony/Fox/whoever else.

they own the rights to all the characters in print but sony and fox own the movie rights at the moment. Now I think they might be able to get back the rights if sony or fox basically screw up the franchise to the point of embarrassment therefore breaking the terms of sell, but if spiderman 3 didn't do that I doubt anything else would.

Essentially, Sony has Spidey and Fox has Fantastic Four and Xmen so long as they keep making movies with those characters. If a certain amount of time passes with no film made, the rights automatically revert back to Marvel/Disney. That is what happened with Daredevil.

I'm curious as to who owns the movie rights to Jessica Drew aka Spider-Woman. That could be a more interesting dynamic and add more female superheros to a pretty male dominated roster as of right now. Not only that but it could help boost the profile of an often overlooked character.

Based on what MovieBob's been saying, Disney has those because Spider-Woman has no relationship to Spider-Man other then theme.

Yeah, I'm still hoping Disney/Marvel gets the rights to Spider-Man, Fantastic Four, and X-Men back. Who wouldn't want to see Spidey and Wolverine (both of whom are Avengers) join Captain America and Thor to fight Doctor Doom? THAT could be Avengers 4, seeing as how Marvel seems to have a plan up to at least Avengers 3.

I have no real opinion on the Amazing Spider-Man movie or cast as I haven't seen it. From what I've heard it had some good and bad points with most of the bad being the script and CGI.

Do I want Spider-Man to be part of the MCU? Yes, absolutely. Spider-Man is, by a wide margin my favorite super hero and I'd love to see some of the Parker/Stark relationship from the comics.

Do I want Sony's Amazing Spider-Man to be in the MCU? Not even the tiniest bit. That series simply doesn't get the core of the character or the themes he's used to explore.

In the end I'd rather make due with an MCU that remains Parkerless than have a half assed Spidey-in-name-only shoe horned in.

I would love to see Spider-Man in the Marvel movie universe so much that I refuse to watch the movies in the vain hope that Sony can't make it's investments back and can't make any more Spidey movies.

The sooner the rights revert to Marvel the better.

Come on Sony!!! Why you so greedy for this spider? Just agree to a % cut from the Avengers 2 comparable to the amount of mainlisters are in the movie. That's an easy 1/6th of a cool billion dollars.
