Blizzard Announces Heroes of the Storm "Technical Alpha"

Heroes of the Storm technical alpha

The Heroes of the Storm "Technical Alpha" will be opened to a very limited number of people, but the lack of an NDA means everyone will be able to keep up with what's going on.

The wheels continue to turn for Heroes of the Storm, the MOBA formerly known as Blizzard All-Stars, and soon a lucky few people will be able to give it a go as part of the upcoming "technical alpha" test. The test period will focus on the game's support systems and functionality across a wide range of PCs and connection types, and will also give Blizzard a better idea of what hardware will be required to properly support the game when it opens to the public.

The initial batch of testers will be invite-only and limited to people in the U.S. Alpha keys will not be required, and Blizzard warned that offers of a generator or other type of key access is "most certainly suspicious." While a few testers may be chosen from Heroes of the Storm beta opt-ins on Battle.net, the vast majority of hopefuls will "likely" have to wait until the closed beta test begins.

The good news for those who want to follow along is that the technical alpha won't carry a non-disclosure agreement (NDA), meaning that those who are taking part will be free to talk about it, post screens, stream gameplay sessions and do pretty much whatever else they want as long as it doesn't include actually sharing access to the client software. The test period will presumably start soon, and in the meantime you can learn more about what's coming by way of the Heroes of the Storm Technical Alpha FAQ.
